Ghost Squad is a unit within Night Force - it's sort of the Black Ops department of Night Force. They do jobs that Night Force wouldn't normally do, like an assassination or some other dirty work. In my Joeverse, Night Force is the Joe Team's version of Delta Force - the best unit in the whole Joe Team. So out of that group, the most seasoned, and dedicated have been tapped for the Ghost Squad. Flint leads it because it's too politically dangerous for a regular officer like Falcon to handle. Claymore tasks them, but he wouldn't normally go into the field with them. So Short-Fuse just sort of disappears for a while with the other members of Ghost Squad, but it's never officially explained why.

The Winter Ops Subteam
I do own it, and I think it's a cool sub-team. It's funny, but Yojoe.com does not recognize it as an official sub-team. For me, it's a little tough to use because Short Fuse, Mirage, and Stalker are all primarily assigned to other sub-teams... Short Fuse is one Night Force, Mirage is with the Marines on board the Flagg, and Stalker leads the Desert Patrol Squad. So, I sort of developed my own Arctic base chain-of-command. Sub-Zero is the Officer in Charge, Blizzard is the First Sergeant and most of the other cold weather Joes just work out of that base of operations. I got a few extra Rockslides today and Shipwreck's head looks pretty cool on a Snow Job body. Plan on doing some more head swaps to build the Arctic squad. Oliver, I know you don't like Star Brigade but you said you have a few, so how do you use them? are they simply pilots? |

OK you left out the crap ones like Star Brigade? Eco-Warriors, and BF 2000? No offense to those who like it.
I'm thinking of rolling in some of the BF 2000 guys into my Steel Brigade Heavy weapons team. But this is a bigger project for later. So is Ghost Squad only 6 guys? Is it the same as the night force 6 pack just the vastly improved Tracker? So: Flint Roadblock Short-Fuze Beachhead Tracker Tunnel Rat? Are there more guys? Do you have Action Man? (I use him a British Operative.) Do they just pull guys for Ghost Squad for mission specific ops? Are the permanent members only? Short-Fuze seems like the odd man out here, does he have another role as more of an engineer than a Mortar man? Do you bump him up in credentials? Like SF engineer? Like What team is Roadblock, Beachhead, Stalker, Gung-Ho, Grunt, Wild Bill and Dusty on? Those are the ones that make it confusing. Oh yeah what role does Slaughter's Maruaders play? Training? Do you rename the European Tiger Force Guys? Yeah, I do leave out Star Brigade, Street Fighters, Eco-Warriors, etc. They just don't fit into my Joeverse. That sounds like a good idea to roll some BF2000 guys into your Steel Brigade. I'd like to hear more about that. Yeah, Ghost Squad is only 6 guys. You got the roster exactly right. I got these guys a long time after I got the TRU 6-pack, so I do have Action Man, but I really don't consider him part of Night Force. I use him as an Intelligence Operative. As a British Agent, he works with Lt. Stone. Yeah, I use Short-Fuse like an 18C - SF engineer. His credentials might not be all that impressive, but he's one of the originals. I figure that's got to count for something. He's been around a long time and lived to tell about it. He's doing something right. OK, so the other figures you asked about: Roadblock, Beachhead, Stalker, Gung-Ho, Grunt, Wild Bill and Dusty on? Wild Bill is the Helicopter Commander for All of my G.I. Joe Special Operations Command. He can work with Tiger Force, or Night Force, or any other unit that needs air support. Roadblock is assigned to Night Force Beach-Head is the commander of Tiger Force, but is often tasked to go with Night Force/Ghost Squad. Stalker is the commander of the Desert Patrol Squad and is a reserve member of Tiger Force (This was a hard choice, but Beach-head's convention file card makes him the Tiger Force leader, and I thought Stalker deserved his own command slot, so he got the DPS). Gung-Ho is the Commander of Steel Brigade Grunt is on Night Force, I believe. It's easier to explain with a Chart. I have it drawn out in a big notebook with all my Joe chains-of-command. Sorry I'm not explaining it clearly enough. The bottom line is that choices for primary assignment had to be made, and there wasn't always a scientific way to do it. Sometimes it was simply a matter of what "felt" right, or made sense to me. And overall, the system seems to work. It's complicated when it comes to dealing with so many figures and uniforms for a single character.

Great question. I collect them all - "regular" uniforms and sub-team uniforms. The uniform depends on the mission. It's true that once they're assigned to a Sub-Team, the old uniform tends to "hang in the closet" so to speak, but it may be used from time to time. For example, with Night Force - I once thought up a mission where the members needed to blend in with other soldiers to accomplish their mission, so they all used their "regular" uniform on a Night Force mission. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for asking.

MACV-SOG, to the best of my understanding, basically meant he was military who was tasked to C.I.A. He could have been a Ranger (we know he was a LRRP Ranger), and not necessarily an actual, certified Green Beret. There's no other evidence that he ever earned a Special Forces qualification.

Oliver, I gotta tell you. I am now the proud owner of a Claymore fig and now I see why you like him so much. I always thought he was a cool fig but one that I refused to pay eBay prices for.
A few months ago I got a figure lot which had a weird Iron Grenadier with Claymore arm and waist. Over the last few months, when I was bored I'd just look for body parts on eBay and now after 7 months I have a complete Claymore and he is pretty cool. Glad I have him, now I want a 25th for my wall I use 25th as Display only unless it's a new character or iteration.

I love the winter ops set. Mirage is a little weird being transluscent but hey. I use Blizzard as my First Sarge as well and Tundra Stalker as the officer in charge. Unimaginately called Tundra, he's a USMC officer.

Oliver, I know you don't like Star Brigade but you said you have a few, so how do you use them? are they simply pilots? Yeah, the Star Brigade figures I have are figures I got when I was a kid and they first came out. I use a few of them for pilots, but mostly they just don't get used at all. I do have the giant Robot with General Hawk... that thing is pretty neat. It never really gets used, but it is really fun.

General Hawk Duke General Colton Keel Haul Payload Claymore Sure Fire Falcon and the other members of Night Force Some of the Intelligence Operatives (Like Chuckles and Lady Jaye) and some of the operatives who are sent on solo missions (like Snake-Eyes) because they may have to coordinate with Ghost Squad from time to time.
