OK, Loose... How do I use the Sub-Teams?
So all the members of a Sub-Team are permanently assigned to that Sub-Team. For example, Repeater (Night Force) is permanently assigned to Night Force. He doesn't show up in his "regular" uniform to work with a "regular" Joe Infantry unit. But what about when a Character is in more than one Sub-Team? Well, it gets a little complicated. Night Force has permanent members who aren't on any other Sub-Team (Repeater and Muskrat). Then, because Night Force has priority it can pull it's other members when ever it needs them for a mission. Other units have "permanent" assignments, and "reserve" assignments. For example, Beach-Head is the leader of Tiger Force - that's his Permanent assignment. However, because he's also on Night Force, Night Force can activate him as a "reserve" member when it needs him.

The exception to this system are, of course, Duke and Flint.
Duke and Flint are Hawk's right and left hands for the entire Joe Team... as a CSM and a Chief Warrant Officer should be. Between Duke and Flint, they are members of every Sub-Team - and can deploy with any of them to advise and coordinate with every unit. Flint personally leads the Ghost Squad, but other than that, Duke and Flint do not personally Command any of the Sub-Teams. I hope all this is clear. It works for me, but I'm not sure it would make any sense to anyone else.

Of course we all have to make of Mr. Hama's answer what we will - we all have to interpret it for ourselves. The way I understand it, G.I. Joe is a combined arms (Department of Defense Level) Counter Terrorist Unit. It's a step above Delta and DevGru. It draws from all the different units. That's my understanding.

Yeah, I don't have it right in front of me but in #39, the mission to Sierra Gordo to rescue Dr. Burkhart, the two Russian mercs make reference to other special ops teams. One of them says that the assaulters must have been Americans because others would have killed everyone or they would have come and gone without being noticed. I'll try to dig it out later to find the exact quote. And of course, in #57, Flint and Lady Jaye are working with the SAS.

I have all the Tiger Force figures (U.S. and International). It took a long time to get them all, and it cost a LOT of money and patience, but I got them all. With all of them, it's a pretty awesome unit and it works pretty well as an all purpose special ops unit. They've got enough specialists in different areas to cover most situations.
Oliver, is your O-ring collection complete yet? You have amassed a nice collection, especially of the rare, hard-to-find Tiger Force International figures along with your ghost squad. I just saw the ghost Tracker figure sell on ebay for a pretty penny. Seriously, who are you missing? You must at least have most if not all of the rare European ones. How about the UK Mutt and Spirit? Those would make nice Night Force attachments. That PeterDB.net site had some good info on the figures that never were but he needs to update his list and include the Tiger Force Beach Head, Hardtop, Mutt and Tomahawk (Zartan in disguise), which I use as my Tiger Force CO. I also include Claymore (because of the obvious uniform colors) and BC Leatherneck (see http://www.yojoe.com/action/93/leatherneck3.shtml) Last edited by Tanksmasher; 10-21-2009 at 04:16 PM.. |

Also do guys who are in the various sub-Teams exist outside of the subteam? Or do the rotate? or if they exist in two teams do you just pick one? Lastly which Sub-Teams do you use? Anti-Venom task force? All of them? Anti-Venom Task Force Battleforce 2000 Desert Patrol Squad Drug Elimination Force Eco-Warriors Mega Marines Night Force Ninja Force Sky Patrol Slaughter's Marauders Star Brigade Steel Brigade Tiger Force What about the winter ops subteam with Snake, Stalker, Mirage, Short-Fuze, Backblast and Frostbite and the artic commandos with Deejay, Sub-Zero v2, and Stalker v4? Do you include these guys? |

Oliver..
So someone like Short-Fuze is Night Force only, but then can be pulled into Ghost Squad?

Loose, thanks for asking. Sub-Teams are a HUGE part of my Joeverse. So let me start by listing the ones I actually use
Tiger Force Desert Patrol Squad - I add the Anti-Venom Task Force (they look like Desert troops). Night Force (& Ghost Squad) Sky Patrol Slaughter's Marauders Steel Brigade Now, before I explain how they all work (roster questions), let me explain Ghost Squad. When the TRU Night Force 6-pack came out in 2005, there were some prototype figures made and they have sometimes found their way onto ebay - they're very rare; I have the whole set. These prototype figures have a slightly different paint job on their pants, and one other exception: There is no Action Man. Rather, it was Night Force Tracker. That's right. Tracker: the Navy SEAL with the great file card and one of the worst uniforms ever... well, this prototype figure fixed that. So this alternate version of Night Force that I found on ebay has become my Ghost Squad - the unit that doesn't really exist. It's not an official unit, and so I use it for unofficial missions. OK you left out the crap ones like Star Brigade? Eco-Warriors, and BF 2000? No offense to those who like it. I'm thinking of rolling in some of the BF 2000 guys into my Steel Brigade Heavy weapons team. But this is a bigger project for later. So is Ghost Squad only 6 guys? Is it the same as the night force 6 pack just the vastly improved Tracker? So: Flint Roadblock Short-Fuze Beachhead Tracker Tunnel Rat? Are there more guys? Do you have Action Man? (I use him a British Operative.) Do they just pull guys for Ghost Squad for mission specific ops? Are the permanent members only? Short-Fuze seems like the odd man out here, does he have another role as more of an engineer than a Mortar man? Do you bump him up in credentials? Like SF engineer? Like What team is Roadblock, Beachhead, Stalker, Gung-Ho, Grunt, Wild Bill and Dusty on? Those are the ones that make it confusing. Oh yeah what role does Slaughter's Maruaders play? Training? Do you rename the European Tiger Force Guys? |

So do you only collect sub-Team figures? If not then what would/do you use a "regular" uniform Repeater as then?
