Here's part of my Custom characters that make up the Special Forces/Airborne Troops: (Sorry for the Terrible picks, Camera Phone)
From the Left: You see Big Brawler (I straight stole that from you Oliver) Next is Rapid-Fire. I'm using him in the capacity like Zulu has him. (This is a Flint body with Grey Camo pants and a Red Head from the Green Shirts) Next Claymore (Duke head painted black with a Stache) Background is Airstrike (Troynos' Air Combat Controller) Head swap the SRO pack Grunt with Sgt Stone Front is Skip from Action Force (Extra Flint Head on a Stalker body) Kamakura (Can't say who made that one. I purchased it from a Tanker though) Lastly is Jammer from Action Force. (He is my other Air Combat Controller. Again just a Head swap of the extra Stalker head on an extra Hawk body. I changed him because he just looked too similar to Stalker if I didn't.) |

[oQUOTE=oliverbox;1126298]Gentlemen, I'd like to change the subject for just a minute - I'd like to talk about Tiger Force, and RoC Ripcord.
As many of you know, I'm planning on using PoC City Strike Beach-Head as Sabretooth - the long lost, prototype figure/character from Tiger Force. He exists as a rumor and fuzzy old photo from a Hasbro promo add in the 80's. There's a link to the picture here... PeterDB.net - Unproduced Tiger Force What I never noticed before is that originally, Rip Cord was supposed to be a member of Tiger Force. But that never happened. But I would like to offer this other instance of a Code name being reused in a Sub-Team: Airborne. So we have original Airborne, and we have Sky Patrol Airborne. Two different characters with the exact same name. Now, what if RoC Rip Cord is simply the Long Lost "Tiger Force" Rip Cord we never got? What if he's simply another character named Rip Cord? Isn't he about to be released in a Jungle Assault uniform? Isn't that what Tiger Force does? All I'm saying is that maybe there's a way that there are two Rip Cords... obviously the name "Wallace Weems" is still a problem, but if there's room for two Airborne Characters because one is in Sky Patrol, maybe there's room for two Rip Cords if one of them is in Tiger Force. By the way, Original Rip Cord appeared as a member of Tiger Force in Special Missions #25. So maybe I should try and get a Rip Cord from the 7 pack and have it repainted in Tiger Force Colors? Tiger Force could use another HALO expert to work with Crazy Legs. What do y'all think?[/QUOTE] TF Ripcord would have used the same head as '84 Ripcord, so to me it would be the same person. '83 Airborne and '90 sky patrol airborne had different heads, so they would be different people. In my Joeverse ROC Ripcord will still get renamed. I didn't see it on the site you linked, but torpedo was also supposed to be part of TF, as the driver for the Tiger Shark. (as pictured in the 1991 European catalog ) I know Crazy Legs was part of Night Force, when did he becme part of TF? nice customs Loose Cannon. Last edited by Guardian; 10-20-2009 at 10:05 PM.. |

Hmm, never knew Ripcord was a member of TF. Wasn't Crazy Legs in Night Force, not Tiger Force?
In terms of figs. I just keep of each character and rename the rest but interested to see where you take it Oliver. Btw, do you use TF as a Jungle squad? I use mine as a Red Cell / Wargames 'friendly enemy' team for the Joes to train against and a full sub team as well. Currently their mission is to observe and report Coil activity in Sierra Gordo |

I really like your customs Loose. Jammer and Skip are terrific. I think I'll steal your idea
Btw, is that Sarge Slaughter from the Build and Brawl line? if so, did you have to modify it? I;ve seen a few here in Oz but they look kinda skinny and short compared to ME Joe body sculpts. |

First let me say: I'm sorry. Y'all are right. Crazy Legs is in Night Force. I know it, and there's no excuse for it. If this was some other thread, no surprise. But we expect better here on the File Card Thread. Thanks for the accountability, fellas. Good catch.
Next, that's really interesting about Torpedo being a member of Tiger Force. I'll just use the SRO Torpedo for Tiger Force. He was Yellow and Black, so he'll work perfectly. Thanks for the info; I didn't know that. Tyroc, as for how I use Tiger Force - I use them as a Jungle Team - but also as sort of the "Official Premier" Special Ops Unit within G.I. Joe. Let me explain a little bit... I have 5 major commands within the Joe Team - Army, Navy/Marines, Air Force, Support, and Special Ops. Special Ops is further divided into Official and Unofficial Units. Official Units appear on paper and are acknowledged by the Joe Command. The Desert Patrol Squad, Sky Patrol, Slaughter's Marauders, etc. Of all these units, the premier unit is Tiger Force. People know it exists, it does Top Secret missions, but it's existence is acknowledged. It's like Army Special Forces - we may not know what they do, but we do know they exist and their out there doing something. The Unofficial Units would be like Night Force (my version of the Joes' Delta Force), or Ghost Squad. These units are entirely "off book". So in my Joeverse, Tiger Force is the Top Unit that is acknowledged to exist by the Joe Team. Actually, Night Force and the Ghost Squad are the Top Tier Units, but no Joes acknowledge they exist, and most Joes may not even know they really exist. Ripcord - I think I'll consider a few options. What I'll end up doing is getting either the 25th Ripcord from the 7 pack, or the new Jungle Assault Ripcord and having Marine Deadpool paint one of them as a Tiger Force member. It may actually work best to use the 7 pack Ripcord - it would work to simply say, his death was faked and he was permanently assigned to Tiger Force. The new guy took his name to cover the faked death.

I have all the Tiger Force figures (U.S. and International). It took a long time to get them all, and it cost a LOT of money and patience, but I got them all. With all of them, it's a pretty awesome unit and it works pretty well as an all purpose special ops unit. They've got enough specialists in different areas to cover most situations. Also, I wanted to tell you that I really liked your custom figures. They look really good, and they really look good together. Nice Job, my friend. Glad you like the Big Brawler idea, and I'm you could use it. About Sabretooth and Wreckage... Well, if you are willing to use an O-Ring figure, Wreckage can be purchased on ebay pretty easily. I own him, and he's a good figure, but I don't mind using O-Ring figures. If you want a 25th/RoC style figure, then the best thing to do would be to get a Firefly and repaint him... that's all Wreckage is. He was a v1 Firefly repaint. As for Sabretooth, I'm using City Strike Beach-Head. I'm doing this for several reasons.... 1. I need a Sabretooth. 2. He doesn't look like Beach-Head 3. It's a Firefly head, and Sabretooth was originally a repainted Firefly. 4. His paint scheme looks like a Tiger Force uniform.

Gentlemen, I emailed Larry Hama today with a question about Delta Force in the Joeverse, and he wrote me back... I thought I would pass along a copy of the correspondence. I'll be interested to hear what y'all think. To me, I think it's good - it means that the Joe Team is able to recruit from Delta or DevGru... which opens all sorts of possibilities for character backgrounds and qualifications.
Here's what I wrote: Mr. Hama, I was just wondering about how you thought of the Joe Team... Were they your version of Delta Force, or were they something separate from Delta Force? I suppose I'm asking if the Army's "Delta Force" or the Navy's "SEAL Team 6" existed in your continuity, or was the Joe Team America's only Counter-Terrorism Unit? I know the C.I.A. showed up in your comic, but I can't ever recall seeing a mention of Delta or SEAL Team 6. Thanks for your time. Kindest Regards, Oliver Box Here's what Mr. Hama wrote back... It's not that Delta or Seals or Air Force Special Ops don't exist in the Joe universe as much as for the most part, the Joe team is even more secret in as much as their actual existance is supposed to be secret. Sort of like Men In Black.

That's awesome Oliver. Nice to see Mr Hama still writes back...even if his answers are disappointingly short and to the point..ah well. It's nice to know that AFSOC, DEVGRU and Delta would have /could have existed in the official joeverse and that the Joes may have worked ALONGSIDE Delta instead of BEING Delta. Folds very nicely into my existent structure.
I like the way you divide your forces and I remember your Ghost Squad from a few (hundred?) pages back or so. Any plans for Marine Deadpool to do any Ghost Squad guys after he does the ODA team?. Also any more progress on your Desert squad? added any more members? those paints you did were awesome. |

Rather, it's the official Sub-Team the Hasbro put out a few years ago - about 2005 or so. The Custom Team I made is an unofficial team that I haven't named just yet. Any suggestions? Well, I haven't thought about having Marine Deadpool make any Ghost Squad figures. I don't mind the O-Ring guys. And these custom figures will probably be displayed more than they are played with.

I've always thought of GI Joe as existing alongside Delta and DEVGRU so Hama's answer doesn't really change anything with regards to how I view the team's place in the spec-ops community. Still, I guess it makes me feel good to see that my intrinsic views on the team's place line up with his.
