Each squadron has 8 aircraft split into 2 flights. Wing Commander - Col Skystriker Squadron Alpha "High Rollers" - Skystrikers (single flight) Ace (all pilots have call signs based on casinos / gambling) Squadron Bravo "Ghost Strikers" - Sky Hawks and Mud fighters Dogfight (all pilots have callsigns based on air combat manuevres) Squadron Delta "Dynamix" - Conquest X-30 Slipstream (all pilots have callsigns based on aerodynamics terms) Squadron Gamma "Mosquito Squadron" - assorted aircraft Maverick (all pilots have call signs based on film/tv aviation films) I forgot to mention in my previous post, Ghost Rider. Can't believe I actually forgot him. He has a Phantom Squadron which is based out of the Pitt and has the electronic warfare / reconnaissance aircraft (Sky Raven, X19,Ghost Striker) I see them getting their aviation support from the bases they're stationed at. Where is Payload; Barrel Roll, and now Air Raid in your Joe Verse? Why don't the "Ghost Strikers" fly the Ghost Striker X-16? YOJOE.COM | Ghoststriker X-16 Other random Joe Airplanes that hardly get mentioned: YOJOE.COM | Sky Sweeper Jet YOJOE.COM | Thunderwing Jet YOJOE.COM | Tigerhawk YOJOE.COM | A-10 Thunderbolt YOJOE.COM | Storm Eagle YOJOE.COM | Sky Raven YOJOE.COM | Night Boomer I only mention them because I own most of them. and not the cool ones. But I see it as a good place for the Astronuats, like Countdown, Payload, and Space Shot. I also use the Anniversary Pilot and code-named him Cockpit. |

Nice Tyroc Love it. Pretty clever Codename Idea, I'm stealing it for sure.

Okay, so here's some more info on SOG. I'm thoroughly enjoying this book btw. It is full of some incredible stories. A SOG team typically consisted of three Green Berets and 9 or 10 Nung or Montagnards, indigenous South Vietnamese troops trained by our SF. The Nungs were naturally great trackers, hunters and trailfinders.
The SOG team leader was known as a One-Zero, the assistant leader was a One-One, and the RTO a One-Two. At the start of SOG operations, the One-Zero was usually a master sgt (E8), his One-One was a SFC (E7) and the One-Two a staff sgt (E6) but later teams, due to the high attrition, might consist of an E5 One-Zero, an E4 One-One and even an E3 One-Two in some circumstances. Some guys didn't survive their first mission. Rank however didn't determine leadership positions. Experience did. Sometimes a highly experienced sgt led a new staff sgt or even an officer, who never dared pull rank in the field. These men were inserted in Laos, Cambodia and North Vietnam, directly into the backyard of the NVA with the odds for survival stacked against them. One of their primary missions was to surveil logistic/supply roads and trails that were hidden from the air. Sometimes the NVA literally tied treetops together to hide camps and roads. Over 50% percent of the SOG recon missions were successful making SOG men valuable assets but they took high casualites. Sometimes a whole team was wiped out immediately after insertion. In 1968, the SOG base at Danang had 18 SOG Americans KIA, 18 MIA, excluding those lost during the sapper attack at Khe Sanh, and 199 were wounded in Laos. Just about every SOG recon man was wounded at least once that year and about half died, according to Plaster. "SOG casualties exceeded 100 percent, the highest sustained American loss rate since the Civil War." Plaster sums up the lifespan of a recon scout best: "...a SOG man's cross-border missions measured merit: Until he had three missions he shouldn't open his mouth; after five missions he could be relied upon to tell a war story honestly; ten made him seasoned and probably a one-zero; fifteen and he was running out of luck; twenty and it was hard to explain why he was still alive." |

So Rambo must have been a One-Zero.
You know what Tanksmaher I'll rename one of the head swapped Aces Tanksmaher for sure. But I don't own the A-10 so you might be getting the Sky Sweeper the Storm Eagle, a Skystriker, an X-30 or a Mudfighter. Unless you got your heart set on a Tigerhawk. I'm in the process of head swapping some of the Pilots and Space guys to fit better. I was thinking about how Zulu has them as Training experts/TAC party/ Air Liason Officers. But most will be pilots. The thing is there are 8 versions of Ace and I think i own six! So for me the Airwing is led by Payload, but he just pushes the paperwork and orders the fuel. Then Skystriker. Ghost Rider; Ace, and Cockpit, Slipstream, Countdown, Space Shot, Maverick, and Dogfight, and now Tanksmaher. Plus Air Raid and Barrel-Roll. More renames: Afterburner(renamed Barrel-Roll v1) Thruster(Renamed Airborne Col. Guile) Goose (Renamed Battle Copter Ace) Still need names for V1 Slipstream, Ghostriker Ace, Tigerhawk Ace but I might steal Tyrocs Idea. Full-House, Double-Down, and Jackpot. Voila! I'll be using YOJOE.COM | Wild Bill as Tanksmasher. |

More like just a Zero! "You know what Tanksmaher I'll rename one of the head swapped Aces Tanksmaher for sure. Anything but the dreaded Mudfighter! "Still need names for V1 Slipstream, Ghostriker Ace, Tigerhawk Ace but I might steal Tyrocs Idea. Full-House, Double-Down, and Jackpot. Voila!" How about: Stick N Rudder Tuck (as in Mach Tuck; see Mach tuck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Cirrus Jet-Blast Snaproll "I'll be using Wild Bill as Tanksmasher. " Sweeet! I don't think you need a fighter wing but you definitely need close air support, either in the form of helicopter gunships or fighter-bombers. Perhaps a small fighter-escort squadron for protecting your transport aircraft and conducting aerial recon, but not a full wing.
After reading more about SOG using aircraft in direct support of their operations, like SOFs rely on SOAR, I think close air support is essential for Joe recon missions, especially since you just can't fly in artillery pieces in a moment's notice. |

Thanks Loose and Tanksmasher.
I don't really know why I went with the name "Ghost Strikers". Might change the name, given that I want Ghost Rider's squad to be the stealth / recon / electronic jamming jets. Also I'd love to build a Spooky Gunship too In terms of planes and pilots. I have so many Ace repaints and doubles that I can have quite a few Joe pilots. The squad so far are; Alpha Squadron “The High Rollers” Flight / Squadron Leader Lt Col Ace USAF Radar Intercept Officer Capt Joker USMC Pilot Lt Casino USAF Radar Intercept Officer Lt Deuce USN Pilot Lt Black Jack USMC Radar Intercept Officer Lt Roulette USN Pilot Capt Jack Pot USAF Radar Intercept Officer Lt Slap Jack USAF Flight / Asst Squadron Leader Major Vegas USAF Radar Intercept Officer Lt Bank Roll USMC Pilot Solitaire USMC Radar Intercept Officer Double Down USN Bravo Squadron “The Ghost Hawks” Flight / Squadron Leader Major Dog Fight USAF Pilot Lt Arc Light Pilot Lt Cluster Pilot Lt Tail Slide Flight / Asst Squadron Leader Capt Air Raid Pilot Lt Pitch Back Pilot Lt Overshoot Pilot Lt Drag Lift Delta Squadron “Dynamix” Flight / Squadron Leader Major Slipstream USAF Pilot Lt Curveball USMC Pilot Lt Sideslip USN Pilot Lt Vortex USMC Flight / Asst Squadron Leader Lt Cmdr Thrust USN Pilot Lt Turbulence USAF Pilot Lt Wave Drag USAF Pilot Lt(jg) Down Force USN And Ghost Rider's Stealth / Recon / Electronic warfare squad which will one day include a custom Spooky Gunship (once I figure out how I'm gonna build one). Their call signs will be based on things that go bump in the night. |

Forgot to mention, I use Barrel Roll as the leader of one of my Air Troops. (Glider Insertion).
As for Payload...well I actually use Star Brigade. I like them. I see them as satellite/ upper atmosphere warfare operators. It also gives me the excuse to use the Armor Tech figures as my own Space Marines. |
