The ARAH cards were good with the quotes. When it went to the 2-packs, VvV, Spy Troops and Battle Corps was when the cards started getting bad with the quotes. Too much quote, not enough qualifications.

I wasn't collecting Joes too much during VvV and Spy Troops and I was out of ARAH by like 1987 so I'll defer to you about the filecards from those eras. But what always appealed to me about the cards from 82-87, was the mix of military info and little bits of personal details. I don't think one has to exclude the other.

Really? As a kid you were more interested in what military school a character went to or what weapons he or she was qualified on as opposed to something like Stalker being the warlord of a street gang, or Tripwire being clumsy except when it comes to explosives, or Roadblock being a gourmet chef?
The personality stuff was for reading and watching, not for playing. The playing was all military.

Yeah. Because Roadblock being a gourmet chef never factored into my playing. That was stuff for the comics and cartoon. In my playing, all I cared about was that Roadblock came with a big ol' machine gun and that he was a Ranger. That defined how he was played with.

Thanks, Tall Creeper. I keep hoping that one day Hasbro is going to PM me and say something like, "We've been reading your posts on hisstank.com, and we would like you to come work for us designing new Joes and character bios. How quickly can you be in Rhode Island?"
Then I would be posting prototype pics of figures and rough drafts of file cards to see what you guys think. ... a man can dream. HB: We changed our minds you are fired. |
