I think that's why I see the Joes using more things like Skyhawks and Locusts, along with the new Skysweeper.
Small, manuveurable, don't need a large airfield, and can provide firepower for escorts and small dogfights as well as recon.

There's 3 markets for Joes: Collectors, kids and Customizers.
Each is still a limited market. Collectors can troop build, but let's talk about the named characters that don't get troop built. Collectors (for the most part) would get 2 Shipwrecks, 1 MOC and 1 opened (at most). Kids would get 1 to play with. Customizers, how ever many they need to for the parts. That's still a limited market. Once those 3 have all they want, there's no more Shipwrecks being sold and no more will be sold because Joes won't pick up that big a buyership change that fast. So if you have 30 Shipwrecks on the pegs, and 25 of those go to the 3 groups. That's 5 Shipwrecks that will sit there and rot. And it doesn't matter how good a figure it is, if there's no market to buy it, it won't sell. So after the 25 for the finite market are sold, those other 5 will sit there. |

As I was driving through town yesterday,I passed a Martial Arts place. It had a billboard out front advertising a Mix Martial Arts Tournament, that was going to be happening.
On the Deadliest Warriors, the Computer Programmer programmed a computer program that did a battle simulations between the paired warriors. He wanted to see how many battles a warrior would win one of 100 fights to the death. When talking to one of the Apache experts,as he was setting out some arrows to shoot,he asked which one the expert liked better. The answer he got was whatever one kills you. |

All I know is that Target has done a price drop to $5.99!
Sure I didn't need the extra Zartans and the Shipwreck, but I'm sick of looking at them. My TRU had gotten to Wave 5 or 3a or whatever it is. I'm thinking Target has another warehouse full of new Product and they figure blowout the old shit and make room for Christmas. I'm hoping when I say Christmas its a Warehouse full of new Joes and not Polly Pockets. Hasbro needs to pump out those badass commercials from back in the day to showcase the new toys. But like everyone else I think Hasbro is doing themselves a disservice with all the mulitiple figures for each character. I mean there are over 100 Joes they could use or make new ones. We use to have to go 5 or 6 years before you saw the same character again. |

I think the Joes can use all their Helicopters, but faster Jets? I think the Skyhawk would get the most use. I guess the Tiger Rat would work as well. Mudfighters probably only need a short Runway. The TigerHawks seems small enough to fit in the back of a Tomahawk, but that is one of the dumbest looking craft yet. However it's probably like flying a rocket, just no landing gear. I like to pretend the Thunderwing is VSTOL. Looking at the 2004 Sky Sweeper which has been repainted as the Crimson Hydra, it appears that they have made the Crimson Hydras VTOL. They have stickers to put on the bottom for what should be bottom Thrusters. Bottom Line if it isn't VTOL the Joes shouldn't have it. The Joes really need a Snow Speeder and a Republican Gunship. |

I'm with you Loose on thinking that Target is trying to wipe out their stock. Both Target and Wal-Mart in my area ordered way too much and it's just sitting there, which of course it is. No matter how good something is, order too much, and it won't sell. So it's clogging the next waves. I saw a little of the Para-Viper/Helix/Doctor wave and nothing of the Desert-Viper/City Strike waves, which I'm hoping to see soon.

Again I think the type of air support depends on rather or not G.I. Joe is a top secrect group or not. I personaly think the Joes would mainly just have jets on the Flagg. And lets not forget about the Ghost Striker/F-16 ( YOJOE.COM | Ghoststriker X-16 ). Like I said before I think the Joes would use Warthogs, Apaches and Cobras for most of thier air support. And I would include Skyhawks and Locusts to that list. As far as the crews go, this is where I think the green shirts come into play. I mean pretty much every vehical/aircraft the Joes use is gonna have to have some sort of crew. I just can't see using Wet Suit, Torpedo and Shipwreck to work on Deep Six's Sharc when they could have green shirt crews work on the Sharcs or any vehical/aircraft. And I wouldn't have a City Strike Duke yet if I didn't find him at KMart for $6.99. Well even KMarts regular price of $8.99 is better than what I've seen them for online.

@Troynos: the only way I can see the Joes having their own organic (by which I mean, one that's self-supporting and self-contained in terms of logistics and maintenance) squadron of fighters is if the GI Joe team were staffed and organized like a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). It's the only existing DoD combined arms force that's smaller than a division that has organic close air support (CAS) assets (that is, if you're going for a realistic sense of scale and manning).
An MEU is roughly the size of a small Army brigade (~2500 personnel), divided into a regiment-sized Ground Combat Element (capable of amphibious insertion), a company-sized Command Element, a Logistics Element the size of a large company or a small battalion, and a mixed-aircraft Aviation Combat Element composed of a fighter squadron (about 7 jets... I'm thinking carrier-capable ones like F/A-18s or AV-8B Harriers) and a KC-130 detail (around 2 air transports/aerial refuelers). Alternatively, since you're making a joint service-type force, you can mix USAF and USMC/USN assets and it could be an AC-130 detail (2 gunships), an MC-130 detail (2 air transports/aerial refuelers), and a fighter escort detail (2 carrier-capable fighters). Helicopters in the CAS role are on the way out... not enough range, and they're more susceptible to anti-air artillery. And if you're talking global rapid deployment within 36 hours notice, helicopters and air assault are out of the question as well. The only way you can do that is to have everything parachuted in. That's another additional concern: every ground vehicle and watercarft the Joes have, I think, should be able to fit inside a C-130 and capable of deployment via LVAD (low-velocity air drop). If you go any smaller in terms of the Joe team's size, I think it becomes harder to justify, logistically, why they would need their own organic fighter or close air support (CAS) assets. The maintenance and logistics requirements for the aircraft would be disproportionately large given how much a direct action/light infantry force would require CAS (which would be, if they're being used properly in the light infantry/direct action role, not a whole lot of the time). They could just call in CAS as needed from the USAF's 4th Special Ops Squadron ("The Ghostriders"), who, by default, provide most of the special operations close air support to SOCOM assets (like the 75th Ranger Regiment or the various Special Forces Groups). If they need spec-ops capable air transport, they can just call in any number of MC-130 equipped USAF Special Operations Squadrons. Last edited by zuludelta; 10-13-2009 at 05:33 AM.. |
