I have plenty of vintage Eels though. Do you know if there's any particular reason for the short supply of 25th Eels? Is it just a case of popularity? or were they short packed? |

For those who might be interested, there is a Historical Site here in Colorado called Camp Hale. It was the home of the 10th Mountain Division during the 40s through the early 60s. It is on Highway 24 just south of Leadville. Some of the units that were stationed there were:
85th,86th,87th,90th Mountain Infantry Regiment 10th Mountain Division Artillery 604th,605th,616th Field Artillery Battalion 10th Mountain Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop 10th Mountain Antitank Battalion 10th Medical Battalion 10th Veterinarian Company 10th Mountain QM Battalion 112th Mountain Engineer Battalion 110th Mountain Ordnance Company 110th Mountain Signal Company 10th Mountain Military Police Platoon HQ Special Troops |

Camp Hale is North of Leadville not South. Bad at directions sometimes. Ever have a problem telling your left from your right?

I've been thinking about my base set up. I was in the process of making a custom dio. That's been derailed slightly. For a variety of reasons (mostly some health issues) I had to move out of my 3br bachelor pad and into a group household for a few months.
Anyway, I thought I'd run it past you guys. The base is called Ft Hollingsworth and is an underground base built near Ft Bragg. The central conceit is that it was a top secret fallout shelter built at the height of the Cold War to house the President, the Cabinet, VIPs and enough room to house a small standing brigade for defence. It has a secret tunnel access to Pope AFB, so that Air Force One could transport the President in secret. It always bothered me in the comics that the underground Joe bases were built underneath one or two Quonset huts, even as a kid, I always thought it was a little obvious.. Anyway, the Pitt aka Ft Hollingsworth is under a working ranch. hidden away. I had plans to build a few farm type buildings that have a MOBAT or Vamp inside... The ranch would be run by Dr Link as the head vet and some of the Joes would work there as their 'support jobs' when off mission. Like Wild Bill, The ranch would provide some great cover for the joes, maybe a nice quiet downtime for Bazooka to go fishing and I even found a cabin I was gonna use as a small retreat for Snake Eyes and Scarlett. There would be several access points to the Pitt. The main entry would be through Ft Bragg itself. Instead of a Chaplain's Asst's motor pool, the cover would be a Special Operations Support Battalion. This allows the joes to come and go without looking odd. It also allows the joes who have families to remain on base. The building at Bragg will actually house several support joes. I'm thinking the Finance, Admin, Comms etc could easily sit here. From there, the joes use a tunnel transport system (rapid rail) to access the main base which is under the ranch. Another access tunnel leads to Pope AFB which under the cover of a Air Lift wing, joes can go to and fro under cover. The tunnels would be constantly monitored, with emergency access points underneath buildings that are 'joe friendly'. I was planning on a dojo run by the blind master, a novelty shop run by Candy the Balloon Bear and the White Clown. I toyed with the idea of a Private Detective firm run by Chuckles as a cover as another emergency exit spot. I was looking at some 1/18th scale train cars for the fast rail system. I think Cross Country v2 kinda looks like a railway operator. I have a few names for customs I'm gonna make. The dio would have been the size of one side of my garage. What has been built is in storage with just about everything else at the moment but one day, I'll finish it and take pics. Last edited by Tyroc; 10-02-2009 at 07:02 AM.. |

Would the G.I.Joe Team have its own M.A.S.H. Unit? All the Joes should know the basics in First Aid. Those cross trained as Medics should know the basics in Triage. If they have a Medic with them, the Medic should have training in some advanced trauma. Depending on how far they are from their base of operations, the team would need something close to evac the wounded too. Have the M.A.S.H. Unit set up in a modified Mobile Command Center 5 miles behind the fdront lines.

A M.A.S.H. Unit (or a modern equivalent) would work for an extended campaign (war), but I imagine most of the Joe medics to be more like USAF PJ's or Green Beret Medics. They're trained to deal with serious battle wounds in combat where evac may not always be an option.

Yeah I actually do have problems at times telling my left from my right. How do you guys feel about the book and movie Jarhead? I'm just wondering how real you guys think the book is? I read where some people say some of the stuff in the book is fake. Why does Duke have two different serial numbers? Is this just one of those things like ranks being different on different figures or was there a real reason for the change?

Most of the time, as most missions would be small scale direct action or recon jobs, again as Oliver pointed out a team would have a Special Forces trained Medic with them. Most of those guys are as close to a doctor as can be. I think they have to do some hours in an ER as EMTs. |

At some point (I think it was in 1989 or so), Hasbro started putting a fine print disclaimer to go with the serial numbers, something along the lines of "so-and-so's serial number has been changed to enhance security" or something to that effect. I think it was just an excuse so that they wouldn't have to worry about keeping track of serial number information and making sure it matche up across all the different toy incarnations of a particular character. I'd link to an image of the disclaimer, but Yojoe.com seems to be down for the moment. |
