I'm willing to bet "Cliff V. Mewett" is a Hasbro employee. Kind of like how Free Fall and the recent Spc.Altitude (from the Assault on Cobra Island 7-pack) are both named "Phillip Arndt" (Phillip Arndt is a packaging designer and art director at Hasbro).

That's teams of PJs, CCTs and I believe Combat Weatherman that I mentioned in the earlier discussion. You may want to check the books "No Room for Error" by Col. John T. Carney Jr. and "U.S. Air Force Special Ops" by Fred Pushies. Not at Delta/DEVGRU level, but they hold their own. Now that the Marines are in SOCOM, it seems like the trying to dupicate the capabilities of all the other services. Had their own USMC "SEALs". Workin on the MARPAT "Berets". It won't be long before a Gunnery Sgt. is leading a team of USMC "PJs" on a CSAR mission.
It's funny, I think I know more about the US military and functions due to GI Joe than either Aust or Canada where I've lived my whole life.. |

Hahaha, I wonder if Tormod S Skoog (Tripwire) was named after someone at Hasbro. It's a fairly out there kinda name. I know that originally Larry Hama was using his mom's old high school year books for names. I've lived in 4 or 5 countries and travelled extensively and have never ever heard of someone else called Tormod or Skoog. Maybe it's cos I've never been to Finland?

Possibly. Hama wrote Tripwire as being from Minnesota, though, which has a very high population proportion of Americans of German, Norwegian, and Swedish descent (taken altogether, they comprise over 65% of Minnesota's population), so it could be he just picked a random Old Norse/Old Germanic-sounding name to go with Tripwire's state of origin.

So I googled Tormod Skoog and there seems to be a real guy with such a name who works for ACT (Advanced Clutch Technology) as their spokesperson:
Untitled Page Maybe its a joke or maybe he use to be a Hasbro employee? |

Tormod is a common Norwegian name, I have a friend with that name. Skog is a common Norwegian last name - I was in the military with a guy with that name (it means forrest directly translated). He either miswrote it with two o's or someone writes their name like that. Either way I think Tripwire is the only "Norwegian" I know of on the joe team. |

If I could go back to the 24th STS for just a bit - what would their purpose be? Between Delta and DEVGRU, what area of Counter-Terrorism isn't currently being covered? Why does the USAF feel the need to have a group like this?
As for the Marines, it's quite possible that they would just look to DEVGRU - it's all department of the Navy, anyway. Although, when Marcinco set up Red Cell, his team sniper was a Marine. Evidently the SEAL snipers weren't quite up to his standards. The USMC likes to be self-contained. It likes to be completely mission capable. I would think they would want to have a Tier One unit that works like Force Recon - Bridging the gap between Army and Navy Special Operations.

And as for the PJ's and the Combat COntrollers - there's no question that they are very good at their jobs, and those guys are heroes. But honestly, we're talking about Special Ops Medics and Special Ops Forward Observers. It's not like a Team of PJ's or CC's are going to be capable of doing what Green Berets, Rangers, SEALs, or MARSOC Marines are capable of doing. It's just not their mission.

I hear what you're saying, I think I just politely disagree.
