Agreed.... Maybe even add a second shorter story dedicated to a Joe that would never really get attention otherwise. So if the book was 150 pages........they could tack on a 10-15 page story of Big Lob or whoever.......

I hear what you're saying; like a bonus story that focuses on one character. I get it. Yeah, I was actually thinking of 350-450 pages in length. Maybe longer - like a Tom Clancy sized book, because I would want that level of realism. SO many Star Wars and Star Trek books sell - and so many Clancy and Griffin books sell. I think Joe Novels would work.

Have you guys ever read any of the Star Wars Expanded Universe stuff? It's a perfect base for what we're talking about for Joe novels.
There's probably close to 30 books now, there's been a couple of 12 book series for the last couple of years. But basically, they started off picking up at the end of Return of the Jedi and just grew from there. New characters (Han and Leia's kids, Luke got married and has a son, Lando has a daughter, etc..) and deaths of major characters (Chewbacca) and the world evolves off each book. They are all in continuity with eachother and by different authors. For awhile it was just single novels, different adventures, but all within continuity. If a planet got bombarded in one book, in a book that took place after that one (and there is a timeline in front of each book), then that planet wouldn't be fine it would be described with the after effects of the bombings. The new arcs of books are kind of cool. 3 or 4 different authors, each alternating by books 9 or so books to the overall story but each book tells a specific part of that story. It obviously takes a couple editors that communicate and can ride herd on the writing talent. But that idea could work very well for Joe. And minor characters in the movies, Wedge Antilles for example, become major characters in the novels so it's not always just Han/Leia/Luke.

I read most of the Star Wars EU stuff - there's far, far more than 30 novels at this point, even ignoring the young readers stuff.
A complete list (including upcoming & announced-but-cancelled books, and reference books as well) can be found here.

Something along those lines could work really well for Joe.
Have some editor at Del Rey or somewhere else keep continuity control and just let the writers go nuts.

The "Tales from the..." books were some of the best, though, particularly the ones with Boba Fett and bounty hunters, but I was a little disappointed with the Bounty Hunter Wars. Jeter isn't a very good writer in my opinion and so much more could have been done with these books. I'd like to check out the Boba Fett Series but fear that I'll only be let down again. This is exactly what I'd like to see. I'm still working on a story about Stalker and Duke and SE in the Vietnam War, using some of the facts from the file cards and early comics as a springboard for the characters. And because I care a lot about realism and getting the right feel, I've been reading a lot of books about the war and that era. I'll be sure to send you a draft when I finish.
