It's kind of funny how some months ago Oliver contacted Hama and we were all excited about asking him questions about the development, rank structure and organization of GI Joe, but when we found that we invested more thought and time into its organization than he did, we soon lost interest. Did we every find out how Larry viewed the Joe's organization? Did he see them as a small Delta-like unit or an elite company or something the size of a brigade with combined arms?

Oliver was he rude or just off-putting? |

[QUOTE=BCross;1048047]It has been a long time since I have seen any of the G.I.Joe cartoon series. Other than the 2 mini series, were there any other episodes where all the Joes flew the Skystrikers.
In the "Synthriod Conspiracy" many Joes are seen flying Skystrikers, landing on and taking off from Destro's converted oil tanker. Also, in the season 2 episodes "Nightmare Assault" and "The Million Dollar Medic" quite a few joes are piloting Conquests and Tommahawks. |

You have to remember. Larry was in the process of shopping around his own military themed comic book, when Hasbro approached him to start writing G.I. Joe filecards and eventually the comics. Basically, his job was to bring personality to the toys. I don't think Larry or Hasbro envisioned that anyone would be analyzing the organizational structure of their little corner of the comic/cartoon world almost 30 years later. Their audience was the wide-eyed kids we used to be, not the more cynical and jaded adults we've become.

I would say that he just seemed annoyed, dismissive, and uninterested. And considering the length and effort (and respect) and put into the questions I emailed to him, his answers just seemed "off the cuff" and it felt like he thought my questions were boring, uninteresting, and "nerdy". So, my opinion of Mr. Hama is one of respect, but he's not the god of my Joeverse. One Tanker came on here a long time ago, and he defended everything Hama ever did. He had all these really obscure interviews memorized; it was a little weird. That guy considered Hama's Joeverse as "perfect". I disagree. Hama gave us a wonderful comic, but it wasn't flawless. The biggest thing I think he did was lay the groundwork... no one had ever given a back story and details to a toy before. It was ground breaking... but like anything that's done for the first time, mistakes get made. But this thread - I don't even think the info/opinions of this thread would work as a good comic. It might work as a Graphic Novel, but more likely as a series of Novels. The Joeverses we've developed in this thread are probably a little too "advanced" and wouldn't have the mass appeal, mass comprehensibility, or appeal to younger fans.

Agreed, Oliver. I wish we could have a series of novels for adult Joe fans, I've been thinking about it for years.

Yeah, you know, with as many military/spec ops novels that get published (and a lot of them are really, really bad) it seems like it wouldn't be hard to do a decent job of a Joe Novel. The ROC novelization and the prequel were fairly well received... I mean, they're not winning any awards or anything, but they weren't terrible.
A series of Novels would also allow for a long form, detailed continuity to develop and unfold.

Would you like to see each novel be a stand alone piece or part of an ongoing series?
I think I would prefer a series. |

I suppose I would like something in between... an episodic series, so to speak. I think it would be good if the main threat (major plot) of a story could be self contained, but a lot of sub-plots and character development could be on-going. So I would want a series, but if you picked up #3, for example, and hadn't read #1 or #2, you wouldn't be completely lost or uninterested.
