Dojo, Nunchuk and Tj'bang, going by the comics. Bushido, Banzai, and T'gin-zu from the toyline.
Nunchuk's name is Ralph Baducci, and hails from Brooklyn. Don't think there's any asian there. Tj'bang is Sam LaQualle and was born in Rhode Island. And Dojo is Michael Russo from San Fran, California. Of course, filenames and birthplaces were given randomly, especially at this point in the series. The artwork for the Ninja Force clearly shows them to be Asian. In the comics, Tj'bang was an apprentice of Onihashi (who never left Japan alive, as far as we know), but Dojo trained with the Soft Master while he was in exile, running a Chinese restaurant in the Washington Heights area of New York City. This would probably have worked better if Dojo were born in Brooklyn, and Nunchuk in SF, in hindsight. On the other hand, Nunchuk trained with the Blind Master in Denver (which would be before Billy and Cobra Commander moved in next door at Fred's garage), then with Storm Shadow in SF after the Borovia storyarc. For a bunch of martial arts freaks, they sure did a lot of state hopping. |

Polynesians/"Pacific Islanders" (Hawaiians, Maori, Samoans, etc.) are generally considered to be a distinct cultural grouping from Asians by most accepted socio-political standards.
However, linguistically (and to a lesser extent, genetically), they are classified as Austronesians (what most people would refer to as "maritime" Southeast Asian -- Malays, Indonesians, Filipinos, the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, etc.). Hawaiians fall under a larger Malayo-Polynesian grouping, which makes them "Asian" if we're using common linguistic origins as a defining parameter for what it means to be Asian. None of the Polynesian people I know consider themselves to be Asian, though (except for those from Hawaii who are of mixed Chinese-Hawaiian, Filipino-Hawaiian or Japanese-Hawaiian ancestry... which is something like half of the native Hawaii population). I've always considered Torpedo to be of mixed Polynesian (native Hawaiian) and Asian (Filipino and/or Chinese) descent, given his birthplace (Aiea is overwhelmingly Asian in terms of demographics... something like 60% of the city considers themselves Asian-American), name (Leialoha is a native Hawaiian surname), and martial arts background (his filecard was written at a time when wushu and balisong weren't readily taught to non-Chinese and non-Filipinos, respectively). |

I grew up in Hawaii. Torpedo has always been one of my favorites - just like Roadblock the Mississippian. Hawaii is the great melting pot of the U.S. It's pretty wonderful that way. I figure Torpedos got a little of everything from Chinese, to Japanese, to Samoan, and a lot of native Hawaiian. He may even have some Caucasian ancestry... some sailor from the Mainland probably had something to do with it.
