Speaking of Action Force, what was Flint's Rank? In Action Force, I know he was second to Trent; was he still a Warrant Officer? Was he SAS instead of Special Forces?

Can't recall what the Action Force version of Flint's rank was but I believe he was SAS. In the armies of Commonwealth countries (such as the UK), Warrant Officer is actually equivalent to the US Army's senior NCO ranks (Master Sergeant/First Sergeant is equivalent to Warrant Officer Class Two, and Sergeant Major/Command Sergeant Major is equivalent to Warrant Officer Class One).

The British Army (and Aust, NZ, Canada and other Commonwealth countries) have Company, Battery, Squadron Sgt Majors which is the senior NCO position in the Company, Battery, Squad and is an appointment. They are generally held by a WO2 which is equivalent to an E8 in the US army.
A Regimental Sgt Major like say Higgins from Magnum would be a WO1 (different WO scale as well) and be equivalent to an E9. The RSM is the highest ranked soldier in a Battalion. I guess one can argue that the Sgt Major in the Commonwealth countries are more a billet (personnel position) than a rank. Hope that makes sense.. |

Tyroc did a good job of explaining it. Warrant Officer is the rank, while Sergeant Major is the billet (sort of how in the US Army, Master Sergeant and First Sergeant are both E-8, but the First Sergeant is practically a "superior-ranking" lateral-promotion temporary billet).

So, a Sergeant Major (or Regimental Sergeant Major) is a position that is filled by a Warrant Officer. Is that right? It's like saying the NCOIC of the unit is a Warrant Officer...
So Warrant Officers in the Commonwealth system are not considered Officers? Interesting. Yeah, that is different than the U.S. System.

Thanks, that makes things a lot clearer. It would seem, then, that Action Force Flint, by being a British Warrant Officer, is actually a lower rank than his U.S. counterpart.
