Finally decided to place my Joe base. It'll be in the fictional Ft Hollingsworth, underneath a fictional town called Hama, in Robeson County NC.
I've decided on a Maxwell Smart type thing. The main entrance is actually a few km's away in Ft Bragg. The fascade is the fictional 33rd Support Company, part of the 528th SOSB which supports the Spec Ops community. Joes enter the building which is staffed by Joe personnel and descend into an elevator (like the original Pitt) and use 2 underground fast rail transporters to the "Real" base. It potentially solves a huge personnel problem. This way, Joe families can still live "on base" and they still have access to a real base life and the rest of the world. They also have access to the Air Lift command at nearby Pope AFB too. Also, it means they can run the Pitt on a "barebones" crew and delegate repairs etc to other companies in the 528th. Overszeas, Germany would have enough U.S. military resources to support it. Okinawa would do it. Hawaii would work. Ft. Bragg/Pope AFB would work. Pensacola/Hulbert Field in Florida would work.

Bludd is the only merc who's also a Line Officer. Destro has his IG's but when he was with Cobra, he'd fluctuate between OS 3-4 depending on how CC felt Lava / Elite / ROC Neo / Terra / Ice Vipers belong to Fred / CCII and not part of this force. Python Patrol and the Coil are with Serpentor All V Troops/ whacky troops (Bio Vipers and Monstro Vipers) / cartoony troops are with Venomous Maximus Last edited by Tyroc; 08-28-2009 at 01:30 PM.. |

I like how this is set up Tyroc. Are there Cobra Officers OS 1 thru OS 5? I mean are there Viper Officers? What about in the Naval forces?

The support staff would have to grow twice as big/fast as the mission staff.
So you recruit some jet fighters and pilots, now you need to get the flight crews, control towers, maintenance, etc.. to go along with it. The biggest "issue" with the Joes is that they have never been accurate with the amount of staff needed. There's no tank in the world that takes 1 person to drive and fire at the same time. A howitzer has a crew of 5-10 depending on the size (they're getting less and less crew as they develop newer ones). A mortar isn't just 1 person, there's 4 people to a mortar. There's ammo bearers for the machine gunners (kind of like what Tunnel Rat had Scoop doing during his "premiere", carrying the extra M-60 ammo and the extra barrel). So even the mission "staff" is more then what is portrayed. So you bring aboard Clutch and the VAMP, now you need at least 1 mechanic to keep the VAMP up and running. Clutch can help out, but his primary is driving for missions. You'd also want to have at least 1 back-up VAMP in the motor pool for when the main one is out on missions or down and out and in need of repairs. Get more then 3-4 mechanics and now you need a supervisor. You'd probably want 24/7 staffing, or at least 2 shifts, so that the work gets done as quick as possible. It's a rapid response unit, can't be delayed repairing vehicles, so now you're talking 2 shirts, 6-8 mechanics and 2 supervisors. It's the military, so there'd be an officer in charge of the motor pool and staff. So Clutch and Crankcase can take the spot of a couple of mechanics, for when not on missions, but you'd want to make sure they motor pool isn't completly short handed if both Clutch and Crankcase are out on missions. All the Joe drivers have to be somewhat adept at repairs. Especially the Transportation and Motor Vehicles guys. So unless the joes are running ten different operations there are close to twenty Joe Drivers. Clutch; Crankcase; Frostbite; Wildcard; Skidmark; Roll Bar; Blocker; Backstop; Armadillo; Roll Bar; Long-Range; Cannonball Then there are even more Armor guys. However what about aircraft maintenance? (only Static Line) and Refrigerator repair? Well I'd have Dusty and Dart on missions all the time. Having the base at Ft. Bragg or another major base makes a lot of sense. |

I like Tyroc's idea of the base being under Fort Bragg and accessible thru the top.
Combine that with Thespians of the Joes assuming cover identities and that starts to get into the realm of feasibility.

It's funny. I was reading an old copy of GI Joe the Dark Horse comic based on the extreme franchise. I got to the end and there was a fan letter, pointing out some very cool observations....it was our own Oliver Box!
Very Belated congratulations on getting published |

Has anyone seen the pics of the new Alpha vehicles and figures?.
I was excited at seeing Air Raid and the fact that he was a new character. Colour me disappointed when he turned out to be Airborne under a new name. Also, Roll Bar has a new name too.. Why would Hasbro do this? they only released Airborne a year ago..weird. |
