In my 'verse, blue shirts form the backbone of all Cobra operations. They are the troopers / support personnel and general dogsbodies of Cobra. All conscripts start as a trooper then progress to the Viper ranks.
Troopers operate in squads, commanded by Cobra (NC) Officers. Troopers (militia men, thugs, criminals etc) are trained in Vance Wingfield's Strike First or recruited and trained within individual Cobra terror cells. The most promising recruits are sent to Springfield where they endure Basic Viper training. persons who've served in any formal military can join the Vipers directly. After Basic, Vipers move onto AIT and different military specialties. General Infantry = 1985 Vipers Signals = Tele Vipers Engineering = Techno Vipers etc Then there are the special schools that require experience (Eels, Range Vipers, Alley Vipers etc).. The progression is therefore Cobra Trooper > Viper > Can go anywhere Cobra Gunner > SAW Viper Cobra Bazooka Trooper > HEAT Viper / Fast Blast Viper > WORMS Cobra Grenadier > Frag Viper / Flak Viper > WORMS Cobra Flame Thrower > Shock Viper > Incinerators Laser Troopers > Laser Viper Radioman > Tele Viper > Pit Viper / Cyber Viper Demolitions Trooper > Techno Viper > Shadow Viper Desert Trooper > Sand Viper > Desert Scorpions Armor Cobra Driver (Stinger) > Motor Viper > CLAWS Cobra Hiss Driver > Track Viper Cobra Tank Driver > Tank Viper Cobra Snow troopers > Snow Vipers (Arctic Pack) Hostile Environment > Toxo Vipers Night Watch (MP) > Viper Guards > Alley Viper (SRT) Air Force Cobra Air Trooper > Air Viper > AVAC / Aero Viper > Strato Viper > Astro Viper / Star Viper / Vapors / Black Stars or >Gyro Viper > Heli Viper or Glider Trooper > Air Viper > Sky Creepers / Air Devils Cobra Navy Cobra Diver / Naval (DTC Trooper) > Aqua Viper > Hydro Viper > Eel > Lamprey / Moray or Sub Viper / Secto Viper > Sea Slug or Eel > Snow Serpent > Ice Viper / Para Viper The Toxo Vipers and Desert Scorpions used to be used as a deterrent nd punishment for bad conduct but they've progressed away from that but they still retain an internal stigma. Vipers who excel in their chosen professions and display outstanding qualities can become Imperial Guards or become Crimson Vipers. Crimson Vipers get university grad level education and are eligible for the Crimson Guard. All Crimson Guardsmen are Crimson Vipers when in Basic military training before graduation to Guardsmen. Vipers who excel in martial arts / close quarter combat are invited to become Ninja Vipers. The Bio Vipers, Elite Vipers, Monsto Vipers and all V or Venom troops are a separate organization called the V Nation under Venomous Maximus on Cobra Island. One Viper per legion joins the elite Plague Troop and leadership ossilates between whoever is the top Eel, Snow Serpent or Para Viper depending on seniority. haven't decided how to use Python Patrol. They're either Serpentor's or Golobulus's troops.. |

I've had a concept kicking around my head for a while for a Joe team setup/story where, since the Joes are supposed to be Elite and Classified, you basically have the top brass (Hawk) knowing what's going on, and have multiple different Joe teams:
ones commanded by all the usual 'leader' types like Flint, Duke, Falcon, etc ~ each team having something like 20 members with a good spread of specialists (1 SEAL and 1 Marine and 1 radio op per team for example) and then you'd have another group of specialists (Dusty, Mainframe, Snow job) and support (the pilots and heavy armor guys) that would be assigned to them on a mission-specific basis. The rub would be (for reasons i haven't really thought through, but primarily deniability) each team would think they were unique. I think this could lend itself to some interesting story dynamics, especially with an almost Machiavellian Hawk, having to keep all this juggled, and the potential for 2 teams to accidently run into each other on separate ops. (we're GIJoe, no WE"RE GIJoe...) Give it more of a cloak and dagger/black ops feel. Less the 'open warfare' against Cobra that most joe fiction is...

Although, having the guys assigned on a per-mission basis, wouldn't they end up going and telling each team that there are others out there? Have you been reading Marvel's Secret Warriors? Nick Fury is leading a team of agents with powers and they thought they were the only ones but it's been revealed that there are other teams out there that he's running as well.

Whoops... Sorry..... :(
So I think I'm going to set my units up like this: Command: OiC, Communications Fireteam 1: Team Leader, Rifleman, Grenadier, Marksman, Automatic Rifleman Fireteam 2: Team Leader, Rifleman, Grenadier, MAAWs, Automatic Rifleman Fireteam 3: Team Leader, Mortar, Ammobearer, Rifleman, Rifleman Recon Fireteam: Team Leader, Rifleman, Rifleman, Observer Sniper Fireteam: Sniper, Spotter, Security Mechanized Fireteam 1 (fast attack w/ towed artillery): Driver, Co-Driver, Rifleman, Rifleman, Artillery, Artillery Mechanized Fireteam 2 (armor): Commander, Driver, Gunner, Loader But not sure how to work in Controllers, Forward Observers, etc... Each base will have at least 1 team set up like that. There will be some other units, but that's a basic unit set-up. Still needs some tweaking. Ugh.. why can't I find something I really like..

Yeah, but I need to settle on something so I can get myself motivated to make the different bases.
Size of bases will be determined by size of each unit in 'em.
