Spent most of last night clearing up space in my photobucket account and acquainting myself with google's picasa software. Managed to dig up some old schematics of the late 1980s Kenner Megaforce toys. Thought Troynos or any other guys making 3D models of GI Joe installations/mobile bases might get some inspiration from them:
Picasa Web Albums - zuludelta11 - Megaforce Sch... Those toys were awesome. I remember I had the Thunderbolt heavy-lift helicopter and used to pretend it was a GI Joe vehicle.

Fogger, here's another thread of Kingphilbert's customs. He's done a really interesting Low-Light that's sort of a compilation of version 1 & 2. He's also got some other nice figures.

I think they were somewhere in between N scale (1:148) and HO scale (1:87). I always wondered why Hasbro never made Joe vehicles or playsets in those smaller scales to supplement the 1:18 line. Given the realistic cost and manufacturing constraints, something as big as the Terrordrome or the USS Flagg would never look right in the native GI Joe 1:18... they'd inevitably have to be scaled down and look disproportionately small (a properly scaled 1:18 USS Flagg would have to be at least 40 feet long, for example). I'd rather have a bunch of smaller playsets and vehicles that actually look good when placed beside each other and can actually be used on tabletop dioramas. Imagine making a tabletop Invasion of Cobra Island diorama, complete with a Flagg carrying an actual fighter wing, instead of a measly one or two Skystrikers (which was all you could fit onto the 1:18 Flagg whilst still keeping the runway clear) and a bunch of Terrordromes.
EDIT: According to one site, the Megaforce toys were roughly in 1:144 scale. Last edited by zuludelta; 08-20-2009 at 04:21 PM.. |

Ultimately, the best (but most expensive) solution is to have multiple Terror Dromes, and more than one Flagg... of course, then it becomes an issue of having a warehouse that's big enough to use all that stuff.

The trade off, of course, is being able to use the figures and the playsets together. I can certainly see the value in being able to use smaller pieces to make dioramas and battle maps... but when it comes to actually invading Cobra Island with figures, there's nothing like having a 1:18 scale Terror Drome to invade and fight over.

1.In G.I.Joe The Movie,it is interesting that Falcon is Duke`s little brother. Or would that be Duke`s half brother?
2.Robo-Joe is the code name that Greg Scott took to be part of the Star Brigade. Before he became Robo-Joe,he was a Scientific Engineering Scientist working on the Star Brigade suits. So he would be part of the Research and Development Division. He was working in his Laboratory when Destro raided the place and stole some of the plans. In order to save his life, the other scientists used the remaining plans to rebuild him. With a motto like I am stronger. I am faster. I am ROBO-Joe!,he could be the $6Million Man of G.I.Joe |

1.The Vapors are the Cobra Hurricane VTOl Pilots. They have direct shunts from the optic nerves to the onboard targeting computers. They are equipped with advanced laser-powered heads up display locators with linkage to the weapons systems vis voice commands. After awhile they come down with painful headaches and vission failure due to information overload to the brain.
2.Jinx was born in Las Angeles,California, which I sort of overlook a couple of posts back. By the time she was 8,she knew about her family background. Sometime afterwards, she went to Japan and met Snake Eyes. Would Snake Eyes be around 19 or 20 and would Jinx be around 10? After she joined G.I.Joe,her first mission was to do surveillance on Fred`s Garage with the Blind Master. Fred is one of the Crimson Guards and must not have been keeping a very low profile,if somebody knew about him. |

Thanks, Fogger. That's a lot cleaner than that way I did it. What did you think of the figures? What did all of y'all think of the figures?

So the new SRO 3-packs are showing up at TRU, and that means that we'll be able to get a look at the file card for Speed Metal... I obviously have no idea, but somehow he seems like he could be the new "Super Trooper" or "Rapid Fire" The Gold Accelerator Suit is obviously making me think of Super Trooper. But we'll just have to see how it turns out.
The other figure I'm interested in is the repaint Sgt. Stone... with Red Beret. Now in the movie, he's obviously American. However, given that he reminds us of Sigma 6 Lt. Stone, could he be British - and if so, could he be a British Paratrooper? or even SAS?
