Love it Oliver. It makes ALOT of sense to do it that way.
There's something about these people that caught the attention of the Joe recruiter and they're asked for an "interview" (teaching a class or lecture, demonstration, something) and the Recruiter goes "we'd like you on this unit, you'll get to do more for your country then you ever have before but first you have to go thru 5 months of rigorous training and then try out for the unit". That's a weeding out process in and of itself. Only the most dedicated would say "sure, sign me up" and leave everything they know for 5 hard months and all that for just a shot at getting into the unit, no guarantee. Same with all the other "Specialty" Joes like BBQ, and Quick-Kick.

Right. And these are patriotic and high action individuals, they strive to be the best of the best and giving a chance to be on a unit of the best of the best and serving their country and fighting terrorism, they'd leap at the chance and probably be tops of the class coming out of boot.

Army Basic is about 9 weeks
Military Police Advanced Individual Training (AIT) is about 8 weeks Airborne is 3 weeks so 20 weeks... about 5 months. That would be the minimum training requirements to get Shockwave ready for Selection & Training. Once a Joe, he could be sent back for any type of special ops training: Ranger School, HALO, Scuba, etc. But prior to Selection, what I mentioned above would be the prerequisite training. He would probably do all his Basic and AIT at Ft. Leonard Wood. Airborne is only available at Ft. Benning. |

Couldn't it be like MIB. Maybe Shockwave ran down a Sevilapoid on foot.

Last question:
What type of military equivalent would you say the new Elite viper is? I'm loving these guys but I just don't know where they fall in? I have the same sort or problem with the Para-Vipers. For instance: Alley-Viper=SWAT but more SAS/Delta CQCB to me Range-Viper=(I say Green Berets) Jungle Vipers=? Para-Vipers=(Okay way better than an EEL which is a SEAL equivalent) Maybe DEVGRU? Elite-Viper=?(The new CGs?) Most other units I can sort through, but these seem like the cream of the crop minus Snow Serpents and Ice Vipers(Who may be the baddest of the bunch) Also how do you guys figure Crimson Guardsmen stack up military wise and within Cobra itself? Yeah, I see the Alley Vipers as Urban Specialists along the lines of Cobra's version of Delta/SAS I see the Range Vipers like the Ranger Regiment: Tough as nails, but not trained in Languages and cultural practices like Green Berets, but I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this. Jungle Vipers is see like as Swamp/Jungle/Amphibious Warfare Specialists... like the USMC Para-Vipers I see like the USMC Force Recon... sort of like SEALs but with a little more flexibility and training. The Crimson Guard... There are so many different theories about the CG's. In my Joeverse I don't really concentrate on their "Lawyer and Accountant" capabilities. I sort of see that as an aspect of the CG Corps... sort of like the CG Intel Branch. I use the Crimson Guard as sort of a Blitzkreig Air Cavalry Division, with the rigor and toughness of the Marines. They're tough as nails and they take a lot of pride in not just being Cobras, but in specifically being the Crimson Guard. When I consider all the "Crimson" Cobra stuff that has been produced over the years, the CG's can very nearly function as a self contained fighting force - like the Marines are designed to do. I put a lot of stock in the CG's. The Iron Grenadiers are another group that I think gets often overlooked. These are Destro's crack Troops. I think of them as being on par with the CG's, only smaller. obviously, just my opinion.

Airborne School is actually offered at Ft Lewis now. I do their physicals all day. I believe they are also doing one at Brag and soon Carson and hood. They found out it saves money not to fly everybody TDY for 3 weeks for the schools. So all the Infantry heavy posts are getting it. I guess we do have 2nd Ranger, part of 1st group, part of 160th SOAR, some wierd Airbourne MI unit and they keep offering guys the school as a re-up incentive.

Tell me a little more about what you mean. I don't understand what you're saying. Is it a joke? I don't know what a Sevilapoid is. Is MIB "Men in Black"?

Thanks for clearing up MIB.
I can't find anything on line about Airborne training taking place anywhere but Ft. Benning. Is it possible the Physicals or Pre Airborne PT Tests were just being conducted at the other posts? I know Air Assault gets taught a a lot of other places, but the Tradition since WWII has been one Airborne School at Benning. I'm just asking, not doubting your word.

Oh, here's something I want to say to y'all...
There's been a lot of discussion on the Forum about "True Fans" lately. I think it's a meaningless title, that's really only a way of saying, "I'm better than some other people on the forum." It's a little ridiculous because there's no way to really quantify it. And it's often used in a snobby and pejorative way to look down on other fans. I think everyone has to decide what "True Fandom" means for themselves. That being said, All you old regulars on this thread are "True Fans" in my book. You guys are the fans I respect most, and I consider you all to be my friends. There are a lot of good people on the forum... but y'all are the best, as far as I can tell.
