1.Both Crankcase and Cutter are from Kansas. Cutter is the Captain of the Whale Hovercraft,Helmsman of the Barracuda and Helmsman of the Shark 9000. Crankcase went to Ranger School and Special Air Service Tactical Driving School via the NATO Exchange Program.
2.Dart is qualified to wear Airborne Wings,Ranger Tabs and a Star on his Combat Infantryman`s Badge. In his 2003 and 2004 Filecards, his secondary specialty is Refrigeration Repair Technician. His name is Jimmy Tall Elk. 3.In Deep-Six`s 1989 Filecard,it says that he devotes his off duty hours to recording and studing whale-songs. He is an avid supporter of Public Television. Would the Sea Slugs, who operate the Sea Ray,be the cobra version of Deep-Six and the S.H.A.R.C.? |

Yeah, I think the Sea Slugs and Sea Ray were Cobra's answer to the SHARC, don't think so much Deep Six, but the SHARC.
I see the guys that drove the Bugg to be more Deep Six equivalents. Dart is really an underappreciated character. Yeah, he's basically a new Spirit, but he's also pretty tough according to his filecard. DDP treated him poorly. He got PTSD after a mission where Duke was kind of playing both sides against eachother with the Joes caught in the middle. I remember Ripcord ripped Duke a new one for that and Flint punched him. But poor Dart. Here's where I think DDP screwed up. This guy, according to his card was pretty damn tough, he made it onto the Joes. Yet one mission where it got a little hairy and he gets PTSD? Not to make light of what is a serious issue in reality, but how'd he get onto the Joes in the first place if he got stressed that easily?

Yeah, I never quite understood how Dart was portrayed, either. I mean, there have been far worse missions in which Joes were killed. Duke lost 3 squads under his command. Doc might have felt guilty for not being able to save Gen. Flagg, and SE has enough guilt for several lifetimes. It just didn't make sense.

When we're done, I think he's going to take some pics and show the whole team together. I figure he's earned it, and there's a strong possibility that it'll make the Front Page of the forum. He's worked so hard and it's been such a long project that I figure it would be a shame not to share it with the whole tank.

Preaching to the Choir Troy. I agree Dart got short changed for sure. Now I wonder all the Joes who are listed as "recon" in some form would they be coming from the Rangers? I figure the Rangers do there own reconnaissance but the Rangers of today seem like more of a Light Infantry Direct Action Unit than the LRRPs of the Vietnam era.
When they Reformed the Rangers in Vietnam they took units from the 101st Airborne, 1st Air Calvary, 82nd, 173rd Airborne among others. I bet most of those guys came from their unit respective Reconnaissance Squadrons. A tradition that most of these units still maintain. My question is if the Joes wanted the best Recon Guys money can buy, would they always come from the 75th? (Seems like the perfect job for Gung-Ho and Leatherneck) But only considering the Army guys like, Dart Spirit Recoil Sneak Peek (Ranger for sure) Recondo (He could be from any unit although V2 has him from 7th Airmobile Assault so 1st Cavalry? I think this is the same Unit as Lt Col Harold Moore from We Were Soldiers) Outback (The Army doesn't need Survivalists, so unless he's strickly a trainer he's got to be doing Recon) Altitude Starduster (Says he enlisted in the Airborne Ranger but which units really conduct Aerial Reconnaissance? His Secondary is Helicopter Assault) Pathfinder? Ambush? |

They are trained to work in 5 man teams led by an NCO. They're excellent and Amphibious insertion and overland recon work. Marine Scout/Snipers are also trained in Recon. One of their primary functions is recon. Obviously there's a lot of overlap bwtween Force Recon and Scout/Snipers. Navy SEALs are often tasked with amphibious recon missions and generally operate in 4 man teams. They are very good at these missions, though there is a bit of competition with Marine Force Recon. The 75th Ranger Regiment has an excellent Recon element that is capable of performing recon missions in any environment. They operate as a traditional light Infantry Recon element in 6 man teams. The 82nd, 173rd, 101st, 1st Cav, 25th, 10th, etc (conventional Division) recon elements are really comparable to a small Ranger detachment, even though they aren't officially called a "Ranger Detachment". All of their members are sent to the same training that the Ranger Regiment has access to (HALO, Scuba, Pathfinder, Ranger, Airborne, Air Assault, Mountaineering, Sniper, etc). Special Forces A Teams are trained in Recon and, as one would expect, they're excellent at it. The 12 man team would split into two teams of 6 to be smaller and less noticeable. If the Joes were choosing Recon experts for their team, it would make complete sense to look at the personnel files and performance reviews of troops for all the aforementioned units. There are incredibly competent recon operatives in all those units. Obviously for amphibious missions, Marines and SEALs would make a lot of sense, but Rangers and Green Berets are perfectly capable in that environment... and as for Mountainous or desert terrain, Rangers and Green Berets make a lot of sense, but just try telling a Marine or a SEAL that they can't do something. I guess it would make the most sense to select the best troops from all those units... but I do know that most Delta Force Operatives come out of the Ranger Regiment (about 60%).

I guess if you look at the list of Recon Guys many of them could just as well be Green Berets, and should most likely be Ranger Qualified at least. But considering that none of them are listed as Green Berets (I'm talking about Outback and Recondo in Particular) they may just be from some of the conventional Forces.
To get to be a Joe they must have reach some sort of mythical status and got noticed. (I still feel they get recruited) Dart probably got a good word from Spirit. Outback is a legendary Trainer as is Recondo Pathfinder is as well Sneak Peek was a Legend in the Airborne Rangers StarDuster he almost doesn't count but I'm sure everyone talked about him. Altitude probably said "Hey I want on this team period!" Recoil and Ambush I'm not sure or SideTrack V1 either. |

Recondo's position as an instructor at the Jungle Warfare School in Panama is one fact... that school was run by Special Forces, primarily. His work with the indigenous people of Sierra Gordo is another... winning hearts and minds... that's the work and method of Special Forces. If Recondo's not a Green Beret, I'll turn in my dog tags. Outback's role as a survivalist would only work in Special Forces. That's the kind of thing they teach at the Special Forces School, and if he works as and independent operative, that's the job and method of Special Forces. He doesn't seem like a Team Player, and the Rangers (the only other real alternative for Outback) are big on Team/Unit. Just my opinion.

Hmm makes me wonder about Wreckage as well, as he was an instructor there as well.
I figure both Recondo and Ouback are Green Beret probably Big Brawler as well. Recondo's 7th Airmobile background, although seemingly incorrect it gives him that Vietnam feel to him. |

Big Brawler is certainly a possibility. I wish they had taken his file card a little more seriously and explained his situation better... of course, I suppose we could say the same about most of the Joes.
