Hey Guys, I had an idea for a custom figure and I wanted to run it by y'all.
I recently saw 2 different tankers post custom ROC Dukes. They took the reactive Armor Duke and painted the body armor to match the original Duke's colors. It turned out really well. Great custom work. And it gave me an idea. The reactive armor suit could be repainted for any classic character (just about). I mean, you could take Reactive Armor, paint the pants a green camo and paint the body armor panels on the torso green camo... ROC Stalker. So I was thinking of doing Claymore this way. I'll probably give him a more modern camo pattern (I'll probably get Marine Deadpool to paint him for me). I'll probably use ROC Shipwreck's figure. The traditional camo pants and boots, and no Reactive Armor gloves will translate well, I think. Just wanted to see what y'all thought of this idea.

Yeah, it's kind of a problem because the 173rd is only a Brigade size unit... it's not nearly as big as the 82nd.
However, the Ranger Regiment is a pretty ferocious Airborne Infantry element in their own right. As for Recon Units, every Combat Division has a Recon unit - usually a company or platoon sized element. The 82nd, the 173rd, and the 101st all have Airborne LSRC (LRRP) Units. They are all airborne qualified, and ranger qualified, and are all good as any body from the Ranger Regiment. The 101st LSRC unit is called "The Pathfinders" and their history goes back to WWII when they shaved their heads into Mohawks and wore war paint into battle. They're a very serious unit, and the only unit within the 101st that is authorized to wear maroon berets. LSRC soldiers are usually guys who are good enough to get into the Ranger Regiement, and who have already served with the Regiement or are trying to get into the Regiment. Airborne soldiers in general tend to bounce around between the different Airborne units. They call it, "The Airborne Mafia". Makes me wonder what unit all the Joes come from since it's rarely listed. Now there is a task we haven't tried. |

I guess these guys all know each other. Do other units get Airborne training besides the Special Ops guys and the 82nd and 173rd? Makes me wonder which Unit each of the Sky Patrol guys came from? We know 2 for sure.

We've talked about Hit & Run coming from the 10th Mountain Div. Airborne is listed as a Helicopter Assault Trooper, that says 101st to me. Falcon was associated with Blue Light Group, that's 5th Special Forces Group. Stalker and Beach-Head came out of the Ranger Regiment. ARAH Rip-Cord, I imagine, probably came from the 82nd. Just some guesses I have.

The Duke one came out really good, Scarlett not so much. I was thinking last night, that I like the way the Reactive Armor is portrayed in the video game and that I want the video game designs. I can't remember Duke, but Ripcord is wearing green/brown camo pants and RA upper. Gung-Ho has a green/brown camo pattern and so does Heavy Duty. Could wait for the 5-pack Footloose to use the head for Claymore.

Speaking of Marine Deadpool, how'd your entire set of ODA come out? Got pics of it all?

I think any color besides Yellow works for any Joe. Even if he was wearing the simple Black Reactive armor would be better. That being said I did not see those customs, so I can't say. I love the Shipwreck so they could all look like that.

A lot of troops go through the Army's Airborne School. All Navy SEALs and Airborne Marines go through the Army's school. Most Army Officers are offered the opportunity to go to Airborne School... it's only 3 weeks long.

Yeah I believe Skydive is Ranger Drop Zone is Special Forces Altitude as a Recon Scout may just be from the 82nds LRRP units Airwave Signal Corps Adjuntants for the JCS? I'm guessing he's sort of a paper pusher but where does the Airborne Training come in? He may have gone Ranger school since he is a Master Sgt.? Airborne (Six) ?? Static Line is one I can't figure. Why would a guy be an Aircraft Mechanic and a demolitions expert? The rest of the Airborne Guys are most likely Rangers: Crazy Legs, Free Fall, Sneak Peek maybe not Ripcord. I suppose ROC Ripcord is now Special FOrces |
