Nah. If there's one thing I've learned the past two weeks I've been brushing up on my non-ARAH Joes, there's always something we didn't know about the characters that comes up in the oddest places.

True, this thread also goes more toward organizational elements as well.
Besides, your work is so good, it should have it's own spotlight.

1.In 2003 and 2005 Depth Charge was introduced. His Filecard says he is a UDT(Underwater Demolition Team)which means he might be a SEAL or close to it. In the Filecard it says he hates being in the water, swimming, pools, hottubs and the smell of the ocean. But he likes doing his job and getting Cobra off the beaches as quickly as possible.
2.Hasbro did a variety of word play with the G.I.Joe and Cobra figures and here are a few examples. Clutch and Crankcase named after car parts. Tollbooth operates the Bridgelayer = Tollbridge. Sci-Fi=Sciece Fiction. Breaker=the CB radio call sign. Dial-Tone=noise from the telephone. Dee Jay=A radio personality. Destro=Destroy Major Bludd=Major Blood Wild Boar drives the Razorback=types of wild pigs. Windchill drives the Arctic Blast=Arctic condtions. Cobra W.O.R.M.S. drive the Maggots=Worms & Maggots. Nitro Vipers drive the Detonator=Nitro & Detonator |

I know they were probably going for some personality quirk. But really, if he just likes the demolition part of it and hates the water, why didn't he become an army EOD. I know they were looking for a funny thing "hey, here's a water guy that hates water, that's great". Just never made any sense.

I hope not Troy. We've sort of been lead by Zulu's project that's true but there has to be things we've left out. Particularly Cobra for the most part. Sure we've touched on a lot of things but nothing withh as much depth as we can with the Joes and real military units. The Super Trooper Program is another great tangent was just recently brought up, by Oliver. But what about Steel Brigade? What sort of role does that have? They must be different than a green Shirt, and now with PIT Commandos there are three tiers of regular forces.
What about the Steel Brigade Commander, What role does e play? What rank is he? How big is Steel Brigade? Where would they be stationed, and when would you use them? Like the Super Troopers? (Combat fixer uppers?) Second, Troynos, this thread is a pillar of the forum. Zulu's contributions have been wonderful, but this thread was strong before Zulu shared his project and there's a lot left to talk about. Steel Brigade - I'm glad you brought this up, Loose. Because I've been thinking about how to use it. I've recently been trying to figure out how to structure Steel Brigade and this is what I do... I think of them as more than Green Shirts. The original Steel Brigade guys may have been green shirt equivalents, but the newer convention figures were supposed to be elite "Airborne" Steel Brigade troops and their uniforms are pretty cool... I have about 10 of those guys. I use them as a Urban Ranger/Parachute Regiment equivalent unit. They are led by the Convention special Steel Brigade Commander. I also have 15 of the "steel brigade" figure from the TRU Hulk set from a few years ago. They're pretty great, and they're the same body style as the VvV figures. So I put them into teams of 5 and each team is led by one of the guys from the Steel Brigade 6 pack from 2006. I think of these guys sort of like the Royal Marine Commandos. Now to PIT Commando... I think of these guys as the Special Forces of the Steel Brigade - since it's an Urban unit (at least my Steel Brigade is) I think of them like the FBI's HRT. It makes the most sense to me to have them led by Sgt. Stone. His specialty seems to lend itself to training/leading a group of PIT Commandos. I figure Convention Gung-Ho and Dragonsky are the Commanders of the Unit. Now I'm trying to work out how I might integrate Rapid-Fire into the Mix.

Hama also wrote the majority of the G.I. Joe action figures' file cards—short biographical sketches designed to be clipped from the G.I. Joe and COBRA cardboard packaging.[4] In 2007 these filecards were reprinted in the retro packaging for the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero 25th Anniversary line.
Many of the characters were named after Hama’s family, friends, and comrades who died during the Vietnam War, or otherwise had hidden historical references. The Arctic trooper Frostbite was given the name Farley Seward in reference to United States Secretary of State William H. Seward, known for Seward’s Folly, the then-infamous purchase of Alaska from Imperial Russia in 1867. Quick Kick, G.I. Joe’s Japanese-American martial arts expert, was named "MacArthur S. Ito" after U.S. World War II Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Japanese Lt.-Gen. Takeo Ito, who was convicted of war crimes and sentenced to death in 1946. Other characters were given tongue-in-cheek names: Hovercraft pilot Cutter is Skip A. Stone, named after the pastime of stone skipping. I copied this fron Wikipedia, but Larry Hama studied Japanese swordsmanship and archery....Storm Shadow is Larry Hama! |
