My CC is much the same as the comics, except none of the insanity or craziness. He's cold and calculating, but has the charisma that makes people want to follow him.
He's ruthless but knows there's a limit to what he can do to his followers or run the risk of losing 'em. I have a reimagined Joe, and in this new version, Cobra is a shadow organization that runs everything from the background. Any war, Cobra is involved somehow. Either supporting (through arms, intel, or even soldiers) one side or even both sides. The true motives of Cobra aren't known, are they one-worlders, or just out to cause chaos for chaos-sake.

Since I've extended the filecard project to incorporate Cobra, I figure there's no harm in extending the Joe team as well. Not adding personnel (in fact, I've streamlined it a fair bit, cutting off a large portion of the aviation element), but I am adding more named personnel to the list of filecards I'll be making. Here's the organizational structure as it stands now: Notable changes: - I've reduced the size of the Aviation element. I originally patterned its structure after two combined standard assault helicopter platoons, but even then, it was way too large and cumbersome for my concept of GI Joe as a small and highly mobile direct action unit. My mistake was organizing the aviation element parallel to the crewing requirements of the UH-60/MH-60 helicopter. It at once limits the organizational structure, and operationally, limits the team to using certain types of aircraft. Instead, I re-imagined the aviation element as something more akin to an Air America detachment, basically a loose collection of expert pilots and aircraft crewmen involved in covert infiltration and extraction and serving as air logistics/transport advisers, using a variety of fixed and rotary wing aircraft (both commercial & military). The team itself has no organic aircraft, all their aircraft are "borrowed" from the units the Joe team may be supporting or they are otherwise sourced from commercial outlets, enhancing their operational versatility. - Added a bunch of "named" Joes from the GI Joe Extreme line: Black Dragon (who I've renamed simply as "Dragon"), Sgt. Savage (renamed as "Savage"), Harpoon, Freight as well as a number of other, later Joes from the ARAH line. - Removed Sabretooth and Skystriker from the roster. Sabretooth (based on the unproduced Firefly repaint) was supposed to be the version of myself on the team, but I grew increasingly uncomfortable with the idea... seemed too cheesy, so I replaced him with Sidetrack (based on the 2002 figure). Skystriker was simply a victim of my downsizing of the aviation element. I haven't updated all the filecards to reflect the changes I've instituted, but I'll be doing incremental updates throughout the week while I tinker with the Cobra side of things. Anyway, some updates/new filecards & images: Dogfight, Flagg & Sidetrack To read their full filecards, click on the Filecard Project link in my signature. |

You figure there have been a lot of world leaders that stayed in power for decades, while using their own people as cheap commodities to stay rich and powerful. Stalin, Hitler, Mobutu, Idi Amin, for examples. Therefore my Cobra Commander is not a background figure. Although it would make perfect sense for him to start out that way.
My CC is in a power sharing government with Serpentor. Although they are equals. However I not sure what title Cobra Commander would take to stay equal with Serpentor being Emperor of Cobra Island. King? President? Supreme Dictator? I always liked Mobutu's title: Mobutu Sese Seko Nkuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga ("The all-powerful warrior who, because of his endurance and inflexible will to win, goes from conquest to conquest, leaving fire in his wake") Still I have Cobra set up as a mercenary army for hire with the most complex money making and money laundrying schemes known to man to grow the wealth. So Cobra Island is probably the most secure off-Shore bank in existance as well. The Cobra Army is mostly run by Serpentor and Overlord who will gladly show up at your door to quell an uprising or help topple your oppressive dictatorship. Of course your entire cabinet may be replaced by crimson guardsmen or stooges for Cobra. Here is where Cobra Commander steps in. I view him as a financial genius and with the help of the Twins they keep the Cobra Machine oiled and greased. Cobra has an extensive Mining and excavation business as well. (Insert Lava and Terra-Vipers Here) So all contracts for road building, diamond mining, oil-drilling, logging somehow fall in the hands of Extensive Enterprises. However the world sometimes views Cobra as heros. They are not encumbered, like say the UN or NATO, by any type of beauracracy. So for "peace-keeping roles" they show up, they blow up and they set up shop. They hire the strongest guys on the block to help them and start setting up all kinds of businesses. Many black markets of the world sell their goods. They are experts at taking advantage of chaos and profitting. |

Nice. I'll take a look at the organizational chart later tonight.
I've been thinking of trimming my team down as well. My aviation element will pretty much be support of extraction and infiltration. There will be 1 AC-130 just because I think it's an awesome aircraft, lol. The rest will be C-130s and Blackhawks, Ospreys and the like for moving people in and out of the fields of operations. I'm going to trim down my "Alpha" team, which was the main infantry unit and the biggest "personal" killer. Meaning there was alot of spaces to fill up. I had it envisioned for two small units of the Alpha team (Direct action, sneaky, covert ops guys were the Delta teams), but going to trim it down to one. This is the unit with the tanks, jeeps, etc.. There will still be a sizable support element at the base, but that can be trimmed down as well. Besides, with the new Joes being introduced (Bench Press, Icestorm, Airraid, etc..) and the new 5-packs (all of which will be renamed), there's some more people to add to the roster.

Ah so you replaced Skystriker with Keel-Haul to bring in Flagg. You got Keel Haul as a LCDR on the filecard but as a Commander in the Org Chart.
Can't wait to see how you do Dragon, as he is more ninja Turtle than military. I see a lot of new Team leaders, which are some of my favorite things to see. Jinx, and Link and Effects, and Chameleon. I have always diregarded Chameleon as a Joe So I can't wait to see what you do. |

Are you going to use Chameleon as the "twin" to the Baroness?

I've seen the name Mariner (file name: David Adcox; specialty: Nautical Ops) listed as one of the Joes in GI Joe vs.Cobra: The Essential Guide but I don't think I've ever seen him in the comics, cartoons, or in toy form. Where did he appear?
Other Joes listed in the book I've never heard of or seen in any toy or media format: - Chameleon (file name: Classified; specialty: Infiltration/Intelligence) - D-Day (file name: David Brewl; specialty: Artillery) - Grill (file name: Darren Filbert; specialty: Infantry) - Mariner (file name: David Adcox; specialty: Nautical Ops) - Mouse (file name: Morris Anderson; specialty: Infantry) - Super Trooper (file name: Joe DeNiro; specialty: Infantry/Covert Operations)... this guy is different from the Super trooper we're all familiar with (also listed in the book), whose file name is Paul Lattimer and whose specialties are infantry & public affairs - Tank (file name: Dwight Prudence; specialty: Infantry) I'm assuming that D-Day, Mouse, Grill & Tank are part of the Sgt. Savage line, since they've got that WWII ring to them (although looking up the Sgt. Savage toys on YoJoe.com, I can only find entries for Sgt. Savage and Dynamite -- both of whom are listed in the book). But where did Chameleon (I know there was a 2000 Baroness repaint called Chameleon, but this character is listed as a Joe), Mariner, & Super Trooper V2 come from? G.I. Joe Comic Book Archive Two guys (Capt. Joe DeNiro & Cap. Glenn Goddard) are competing to be in the Super-Trooper program. Goddard sacrificed himself to save DeNiro. I do believe you are right about Grill, Mouse & Tank Last edited by Darkhawk75; 07-27-2009 at 08:15 PM.. |

I think I'll leave her filecard vague enough that people can read into it what they want. Those who like the idea of her being Baroness' half-sister can interpret it that way, and those who don't and would rather view her as a stand-alone character can interpret it their own way. Quote:
2 Super-Troopers were mentioned in a G.I. Joe European Missions issue:

You know, Hasbro missed a great chance to really expand on the international theme of the new RoC roster.
If the filecards had been as detailed as the old ones, could have really gotten into the different nationalities and their military services and such. Would have been great.
