Can't really use that logic with the VvV stuff thou Oliver.
Some of the equipment with those figures is just really odd choices. Some of it looks like they just reached into a pile of accessories and put it with a character without thinking. For instance, this Tele-Viper from 2005. The headset that came with him.. DOESN'T EVEN FIT!! YOJOE.COM | Tele-Viper He's got a hole in his chest that nothing goes in. The single-carded VvV ones are bad. Just a mix of odd things. But I still think that Tunnel Rat does have some sniper training.

YOJOE.COM | Tele-Viper He's got a hole in his chest that nothing goes in. I first thought that was a headset too, but it is not. It goes over his right shoulder and has a small peg that goes in the hole on his chest. |

If I remember correctly, they have both a screw and were glued. I think they broke apart pretty easy.

Currently, my VvV single carded Tele-Viper is in mid-paint job. He's getting some nice desert colors added to him. I would have used a 25th Tele-Viper, but HE HAD NO EQUIPMENT!!

Check out this picture of Tele-Viper V4 on the card with the shoulder piece attached. It is the same mold and came with some of the same accessories: YOJOE.COM | Cobra Viper & Tele-Viper I bought some of the VvV Tele-Vipers at Family Dollar stores just for the accessories. I shaved a little bit of plastic off the backpack pegs so they would fit on the new Tele-Vipers. |

My Family Dollar is all out of Tele-Vipers, down to their last 2 Baroness and I think that's it for the $2 Joes.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks, they could get some more in. The Family Dollars in my area were almost sold out of the VvV figures, but a couple recently got some new stock in. I don't collect these figures myself, but noticed this new restock since I go to four different FD stores to merchandise the pre-paid cell phones.

So where do you guys place Alpine in your Joeverse? I don't have a mountaineering sub-team and his uniform, though cool, doesn't quite fit with my infantry or aerial assault teams. I've come to think of him the same way I think of Outback--a loner, used for single-man insertions, either recon or special resuce.

The single-carded VvV ones are bad. Just a mix of odd things. But I still think that Tunnel Rat does have some sniper training. If Hasbro has issued a character a sniper rifle (or any other piece of equipment), then it seems reasonable to assume a certain level of training or expertise with that equipment on the part of the character. It certainly isn't required. If someone doesn't like the idea of Tunnel Rat as a sniper - they're under no obligation to us him as such; it's not like we're talking about Low-Light or Cross Hair. However, because Tunnel Rat was issued with a sniper rifle, I don't think they're anything wrong with using him as a sniper if someone wanted to use him that way. It's an option to understand the character a little differently - an option to conclude some fact about their qualifications - based on evidence provided by Hasbro in the package: just a different form of information than the file card... sort of like Repeater's Ranger Tab. It's not in his file card; it's in the picture of the character on the front of the package. It certainly does not seem any more of an extrapolation than Recondo being Ranger qualified, Repeater being in the Ranger Regiment, or the qualifications of the 4 questionable Marines. It's just an exercise in attempting to extrapolate certain information from an indirect source. That's all I'm saying.
