We have rarely got that many figures in matching attire. So it makes a great Idea. More Urban than sea-Borne. But by the time it's done there will be like 12 figures with that camo pattern.
Hawk, Scarlett, Cover-girl, Breaker, Kamakura, Beachhead, Rollbar, Duke and Ripcord and HD might end up like that as well, Zartan, Shipwreck. Where is that official release thread. they need to make a sticky of the what we know is coming ROC stuff. I've seen it but can't find it now. Hawk, Scarlett, Cover-Girl, Breaker, Kamakura, Rollbar, Pit Commando, Deep-Six, Shipwreck, Zartan, Sgt. Stone. Beachhead's got darker colors, more of a night/desert kind of thing. Wonder what Dusty and Leatherneck will look like.

Bravo team has two problems. 1) their Faces look goofy as hell 2) No Filecard. These characters are from out of nowhere. A comic book would help sell them as well I think. The Vehicles are quite nice. And I assume they know Joe fans are buying that stuff. If they had the same articulation as GIJoe or even swivel hand grip, I'd buy more. They cost just as much. If they changed them to Sgt Rock for their WWII stuff and kept up a comic, I think they could give GIJoe a run for it's money. That other new brand of military figures is total crap. They even cost more and look worse than the Corp Figures. If the Corp figures went back to O-rings I'd buy more. It's not the O-rings so much, but the new colors and oversized appendages that take away from the figures. They have some decent vehicles occasionally. I wonder how Corp figures sell. They sure have a good price point. One X-mas my brother bought me everyone they had at Walmart. It was like $22 total. They make great Guerrilla Terrorist forces. |

I think the adult market for 1:18 scale realistically rendered military-themed figures and vehicles is relatively limited, at least when compared to 1:64, 1:32, and 1:6 scale toys. I think the problem is that it's a bit of a "bastard" scale: it's too big to create anything larger than a realistically scaled Humvee or Little Bird helicopter without becoming prohibitively expensive in terms of production cost (not to mention storage and shipping) and it's too small to allow for the amount of obsessive detail and articulation that many adult militaria collectors are interested in.
I tend to look towards the Hong Kong and Japanese markets for action figure trends (since they're pretty much the hub of the hobby) and there's not a lot of manufacturer, retailer, or collector interest in the 1:18 scale, I suspect for the reasons I outlined above. A shame, too, since 1:18 is my "default" scale. As a kid, I was never much into toys except for GI Joe (and the occasional Matchbox and Hot Wheels car), so my interest, as far as military action figures and vehicles go, is limited to that scale. The 1:18th market is more limited than a normal toy line, I'll give you that, but a large part of the downfall of some of the 1:18th manufacturers was Wal-Mart's demands on the products (how they were packaged, what they would offer, size, amount produced, etc.). Another big problem was the lack of decent figures - now that GI Joe is more popular than it's been in years, the 1:18th market is responding accordingly.

I think you can add Beachhead and Air Raid to that Blue Camo list. Plus I think the Target Exclusive Duke rescue pack will have that same Blue camo for pants.

Nice little squad.

One sort of feeds into the other, though, doesn't it? Lack of collector/manufacturer/retailer interest --> relatively low quality 1:18 product --> lack of collector/manufacturer/retailer interest. Hopefully, the attendant interest in RoC will elevate non-Hasbro 1:18 product quality overall. |
