Buzzer was the only intellegent one, well until Zarana came. But I always wondered why Zandar got left out in the rain. He never got much love in the comics or cartoon, but I always liked the figure. I thought he was pretty cool looking.

I missed alot but I liked Zandar too. I always thought as Zartans brother he would have had a bigger role. I think(and I may be wrong) he only appeared in issue# 51 and 52 of the Marvel series

New updates to the Filecard Project:
Heavy Duty, Law, and Mace Design notes: - Heavy Duty was pretty straightforward. The original figure had a pretty clear cut design and it was a simple enough matter "transposing" it, so to speak, into a more realistic context. - Law was a tad more difficult. While the original fire red shirt and bright blue vest looked good in toy form, it looked horrendously garish however I worked it in a more realistic composite image. In the end, I left out the red shirt and replaced it with a more subdued olive shirt. Also took off the MP brassard, as it's currently out of vogue uniform-wise, along with the MP-printed helmet. Hopefully the changes I've instituted aren't so drastic as to make the character unrecognizable. - Mace was a hybrid design inspired by the Mace character from the 1989 C.O.P.S. 'n' Crooks toyline and its thematic descendant, the 1993 Mace ARAH figure. (L) 1989 Mace COPS 'n' Crooks figure; (R) 1993 Mace GI Joe figure [side note]The 1993 Mace figure's head-mounted missile launcher is probably the dumbest-looking weapon I've seen in the ARAH line. More ridiculous than The Fridge's football-tipped flail weapon or Captain Grid-Iron's giant football-shaped grenades. It looks like the result of a cocaine-driven riff on the phrase "21st century headbutt." First off, it's a mighty conspicuous bit of kit for an undercover agent. Secondly, I can't see how a human neck can support the weight of an offset missile launcher, never mind the missile itself, in such a manner that it would make accurate aiming of the weapon possible. Also, the forces acting on the unsupported neck, at missile launch, would give the wearer the worst case of neck backlash (if they don't break the wearer's neck outright), with the added bonus of third-degree facial burns from the backblast.[/side note] Anyway, to read their full filecards, click on the Filecard Project link in my signature. |

Nice Zulu. You're on a role. All of them look great. HeavyDuty looks real good. Mace as a Marine is awesome, although he's one of those whose service branch leads us to believe he is a Marine. Do you have a running tally of all the different language specialties you've given everyone? I just noticed with Mace, with Uzbek and Kyrgyz, you've touched on many languages.

Great work, z. Heavy Duty will never be mistaken for 'Block, and looks great in his own right. Law is plenty recognizable, even if he was pictured without Order. As for the olive shirt, that's what color he wore in his 1990 reissue, so I see this as a functional synthesis of those two figures. Mace was the COPS to Joe character I was most interested to see, since having him not be on the Special Response Unit meant you weren't going to be able to simply transition his COPS look. I'm pleased with the final look that was a combination of the ARAH figure and his COPS figure. Although I wasn't able to immediately recognize him, in this case I think the final effort is better than what he would have had otherwise had he hemmed closer to either look. And as to the Marinification of Mace, (I'm not sure if this was intentional or not) but IIRC Mace in the COPS line was a Marine before he went SWAT. So good move there as well. Kudos.

COPS Mace was a Marine? I didn't know that. That just furthers his Marine Credentials in my opinion. Just the fact it says from the Shores of Tripoli on his filecard was enough for me, but this just adds more to the thicken the pot.

Yeah, we've used that line before in discussing Mace as a possible Marine. Great updates. Is that a coffee cup in his hand?
Seen the new Alpha Class Vehicles, some characters are moved around. RoC Airborne is now Rollbar and the "Barrell Roll" is now Air Raid (he's still going to be Barrell Roll in my 'verse).

Ha... no, but I can totally see it as one now. It's actually a mini-DV camcorder.

I didn't know the COPS Mace was an ex-Marine, to be honest. The decision to make my version of Mace a Marine was based on a line from the 1993 character's filecard, which made mention of the "shores of Tripoli" (a phrase best known for its inclusion in the opening lines of the Marines' Hymn), which I think was a subtle hint that Mace is a Marine.
You can tell Hama wrote these. And I'm willing to bet this is why the Joe version of Mace had the Marine reference. If anyone's interested in reading up on the COPS characters, General Hawk has a nice fansite up. |
