I can see the Joes being like Delta. They're known to exist but no one's quite sure of unit make-up, training location, etc.. Very hush hush. No one knows the missions they're on, etc..
What was that issue with Budo, Lightfoot and Repeater? #82? I can see the Joes doing that, bringing prospective candidates together and putting 'em thru their paces, once get thru that then it's onto more testing and so on... Also, would you need a different set of "evaluations" for the different branches? You're not going to throw "Joe Recruit" SEaLs into the same testing as Rangers (not at first) because they have different skillsets, the same things you want to evaluate on a potential SEaL recruit may be different from a Ranger. So then is it generic testing? How would you evaluate potential recruits? Physical ability isn't what you're looking for in all recruits either, the tech guys don't need to do as many push-ups as a direct action guy. How is Delta recruited? The Joes would probably follow the same setup.

I don't remember this being there a month ago? But I think they do a recruitment drive twice a year in a little ad in the local Ft Bragg paper. Since they are at Ft Bragg most of their potential candidates are there as well. Probably a good place for Hawk to go looking for recruits too. Maybe Hawk has a secretary inside of the Pentagon, who is a little sweet on him, and she lets him know about Dudes who get medals for valor or Heroism. Then he and Stalker go do a house call. I still can't get past the image in my head of Hawk and Stalker and later Duke finding these recruits in random places, like College Football Recruiters. They're not offering money, but something like how the origins storyline is going and how Hawk is shown to recruit Duke. Seems like the movie adaptation will work the same. First Duke says no then he changes his mind. I mean Stalker is there from the get go. He seems more loyal to me. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 07-01-2009 at 09:57 AM.. |

Also, I think demonstrated (not necessarily formally qualified) proficiency and experience (both military and civilian) would carry a lot of weight in Joe selection. |

I also think that improvisation (if the mission plan goes fubar, what do you do?), ability to think outside the box and the ability to think/react/handle things outside your comfort zone (primarily desert trained dropped into the arctic, vehicle driver forced to continue without wheels, etc..) would be very high on the Joes evaluation criteria.

Hey zulu, loving the new three. The change to Gung Ho further distances his appearance from Leatherneck's, as well. I wasn't sure about the choice for the M79, but then I did a little research and saw that it's coming back into favor with some special operators because of its increased effective range over the M203. Pathfinder and Tollbooth are also worthy updates, bro. Glad to see you back in the saddle.

The M14 in particular, is gaining a lot of traction in the Middle East, because the features that made it a liability during the Vietnam War (the wooden stock & forestock were a big problem in the damp, humid jungle) are non-issues in an arid climate (and most re-issued M14s these days have composite stocks, anyway). |

So basically what we're getting at is that being a "recruiter/scout" for the Joe team is an impossible job.

It's Hawk's problem.

- Application: open to volunteers only (E-4 and above, with at least a 4 year service commitment), no actual "recruits" (i.e., no applicants taken in through commander recommendations, or applicants recruited off of their home unit without their first expressing an interest in serving with the unit). Priority given to applicants with experience serving directly or in a support capacity in a DoD designated special operations-capable unit. - Screening and Qualification: would include task-appropriate testing against physical conditioning, psychological stability, technical proficiency, and intelligence benchmarks. - Professional Development Training: potential team members undergo GI Joe-specific technical training and equipment/protocol familiarization. At the end of the training, potential team members must pass informal certification/qualification in their given tasks/fields. - Unit Integration Training: Potential full-time members are given probationary member status, whereupon they have to undergo an 8 month cycle of simulated and actual special missions. After the 8 month cycle, members are given full status as GI Joe members. - Biannual requalification: full-time members undergo abbreviated refresher training. |
