I'm really liking the visuals on both of these guys. The light tan is a nice choice on Dee-Jay. The only thing I noticed on him is that he's listed as a Signal Support Maintenance Team Leader on the chart, but his Duty Identifier on the card is that of a Communications Chief. Speaking of which, I see you took Dial Tone and placed him into that position, and moved Airwave to the JTAC position. Cool.
I also see that you've added a few new characters in Mirage, Surefire and Sidetrack. Those are all fine additions (although I hope you're using the second Sidetrack instead of the first one). I know a lot of people had ill-will towards Surefire and Big Brawler (I was surprised you opted for Sidetrack over Brawler, honestly), but I see them as being no different than Sneak Peek. |

Big Brawler as an intelligence guy just didn't work. Stupid name to, lol. Should have just made him a straight jungle trooper without the intelligence main.
Nice update on Dee Jay. Takes a second to click with who he is an update on, but once notice the comm gear it becomes obvious. Dee Jay had to have the shortest Joe career. He shows up, first appearance and gets killed. Did he even say anything? Mangler was around for one issue, but at least he had action the whole issue and ended up giving his life to let his team get away. Cool Breeze was around for a couple of issues. What was up with Cool Breeze anyways? He seemed like an awful lot of design work for a throwaway character. Always thought that was weird. Oh yeah, there was that guy in the Shockblast/Destro comic pack comic. His first appearance and he was dead to begin with.

Holy crap, all this talk really makes me feel old. Cassettes were so awesome... I was a mix-tape kid, I'd spend hours making tapes for different occasions and "moods" using an old beat-up Sanyo boombox. Shit, I'd make all these corny-ass mixtapes for my crushes (start things off with some classic Aerosmith, pack the middle with some Heart and Wishbone Ash to show that I'm the intelligent and sensitive type, and then close things out with some extra-cheesy Def Leppard ). I think the Defiant Space Shuttle Complex was the first GI Joe vehicle that, when I saw it in the pack-in catalogue, I knew right off I didn't want it (unless I was going to get it for free, of course). I think I might have been in the minority but I wasn't really into playing "space" when I was a kid. Totally been there with the mix tapes. I must of made at least 100. I've even put two boombox tapedecks in front of each other to copy cassettes since they didn't have a dual tapedecks. I miss those days. You could set the mood for 90 minutes. I too was not too interested in the Defiant. I seemed awesome, but I really wanted Hardtop more than anything. Don't know why. I'm sort of a completist as far as having one version of each character. But the Space thing didn't do it for me. (Side note I own the Armor Bot which is a cool toy) Oh Yeah.. ZULU, AIRWAVE is one of the best looking designs yet! He looks perrrrrrfect! And Dee-Jay, any update is a good one. He looks great. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 06-27-2009 at 11:25 AM.. |

I'd put a bomb box in front of a radio to record songs since at the time I didn't have a radio/cassette combo. Yep, done the boom box to boom box thing before.
You know, just using the term "boom box" makes us old.

Yup, but running the official fanclub gets you and your buddy (Surefire) made into "Super-Joes" that specialize in everything. The only reason I brought Big Brawler up was because of the real life association he had with Surefire.

And Surefire is one of the higher ranking Joes. They both do seem to be "super-joes". I just use Surefire as the officer in charge of base security and the MPs.

Whachu talkin bout Willis? whose who? I never heard about that. I'm actually a fan of both. The V1 Big Brawler looks like my brother without the muscles. I have made him a Green Beret Captain. I use the Tiger Force one as Big Brawler. He is a little over the top for sure, but they were creating new characters those years. I just love new characters. But I think they used great mold choices for Big Brawler and Sure Fire. I use the Green V2 Surefire as an Air Liason Officer named Scout.? Still I think they took parts of Recondo and parts of Outback and sprinkled in a little Duke to make the Big Brawler. With Sure Fire, I wonder why they made him so high in rank? Those Collector Edition Years seem to start everyone off a little higher than the E-4s we grew up with. ie SideTrack, SideTrack V2, Wet-Down, Big Brawler, Sure-Fire, CrossFire (Also a Fan), Doubleblast, White-Out. I suppose if I were to create new figures I would do the same. I eat up that ultimate Fanboy crap. |

From Yojoe.com
Surefire- "Sure Fire was named after David Lane, the head of the long-running Steel Brigade G.I.Joe fan club." Big Brawler- "Big Brawler was named after Brian Mulholland, one of the heads of the long-running Steel Brigade G.I.Joe fan club." There's a couple others named after fans as well, can't remember who though.

- Major Storm - Hot Seat (not a bad codename, but I just don't see how it relates to the character it was given to) - Recoil (like Hot Seat, not a bad codename by itself, but the connection to the character it's attached to is tenuous at best) - Agent Faces (Everytime I see that, I can't help but read it as "Agent Feces") - All the Ninja Force codenames (except Snake-Eyes, Storm-Shadow, Scarlett, Nunchuk) Quote:
Another thing we used to do, and I know a lot of other kids used to do this, if we couldn't find a particular song or album in the record stores, is we'd call in a request to the local radio station's all-request show and we'd just be ready to hit the "record" button as soon as the song would start playing. I guess that's the analog precursor of ripping the music off of Youtube videos or online audio streams Last edited by zuludelta; 06-27-2009 at 01:26 PM.. |

Yeah, Cool Breeze could have been an easy Cross Country repaint. He had a lot of detail but maybe his "proposed" figure was cancelled.
