Well, being in my late 30's, I'm definitely feeling old. I remember that "Thriller" was one of the first albums I got as an adolescent. I was never a huge MJ fan, but I liked his music, and "Thriller" had so many great songs. I agree that we as a culture have a hard time separating people from what they do or believe. Many of my patients last night were referring to Jackson as a "pedophile", even though it has never been proven that he was. As far as Larry, Chuck, et al, I'm probably happier not knowing what they personally believe. I'd rather just read their stories. And Farrah was certainly beautiful, but my favorite "Angel" was Jaclyn Smith
I always had a thing for Cheryl Ladd, but Jaclyn Smith was beautiful. She still is, saw some photos recently, she's aged well.

So I finished reading a book by the author Brad Thor, it was called Lions of Lucerne. The basic plot is that an industrialist and 2 Senators hire a Swiss mercenary group, the Lions of Lucerne, to kidnap the President of the US and Secret Service Agent (and former SEAL Team 2, the "Polar SEALs") Scot Harvath goes and rescues him. Alot of it takes place in Switzerland.
In the book they make reference to the Swiss Military using underground bases. And with the project I'm working on.... So starting to do some research. Found this off wiki: "Permanent fortifications are established in the Alps, as bases from which to retake the fertile valleys after a potential invasion. They include underground air bases which are adjacent to normal runways; the aircraft, crew and supporting material are housed in the caverns. The concept of underground fortifications in the Alps stems from the so-called "Reduit" concept of the World War II. It was intended that if the Axis Powers were to invade Switzerland, they would have to do so at a huge price. Despite this, it is clear that Hitler considered invasion at various times and that the Allied landing at Normandy as well as the difficulties faced in invading Russia probably played significant roles in preventing a German invasion. The army would barricade itself in the mountains within the fortresses, which would be very difficult to take. However, a significant part of these fortifications have been dismantled between the 1980s and during the "Army 95" reformation. The most important fortifications are located at Saint-Maurice, Gotthard Pass area and Sargans. The fortification on the left side of the Rhône at Saint-Maurice is no longer used by the army since the beginning of the 1990s. The right side (Savatan) is still in use." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9...the_Swiss_Alps

MMMM Jaclyn. Yeah I think when I started watching Charlies angels Farrah had just been replaced. I think I liked, the show because of all the guest stars. But I thought since she was married to the six-Million dollar man she must be cool. Thriller was my first Cassette I owned as well. I remember being disappointed because although I liked it I wanted more of the Top 40 stuff than just MJ. Nevertheless I listened to that tape like 50,000 times. I finally traded it for a Def Leopard Pyromania album and a copy of Quiet Riot/Van Halen 1984 mix tape. I have since bought thriller again. My 5 year old daughter is totally enthralled by the media circus and wants to hear every song on YouTube. (Yeah I know she's watching too much TV) Quote:
Went to all of those but the Holocaust Museum when I was in DC last year for July 4th (what an amazing experience watching the Fireworks, sitting in front of the Washington Monument).
Both are incredibly moving. I could have spent days in Arlington. What an amazing place. If you've never seen it, you have to watch the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. What a display of military professionalism. Quote:
Another figure that was a tough update:
Countdown[/center] Design notes: - Pretty tough to update an astronaut to fit in with a small SOF counterterrorist team, but I tried what I could. I think he looks okay now as a Command & Control officer, but I don't know if he's recognizable off the bat as Countdown. At this point though, I almost don't care anymore, given how much time I've spent stretching the boundaries of what he could be on the team whilst still retaining a significant resemblance to the original. Any Countdown fans out there that think he's wrongly represented within the context of what I'm trying to do, I'd like to hear how you would rationalize putting an astronaut on a JSOC unit. - He's got the AHMD helmet I initially used for my first attempt at creating Psyche-Out. As I mentioned before, it's an "augmented reality" helmet (as opposed to virtual reality) developed by L-3 Communications for the Air Force. The two clear composite plates suspended in front of the wearer allow for images to be projected on them from the helmet's built-in mini-projectors. These plates can be used as computer screens and as HMDs (which overlay data directly over the wearer's field of vision, so they get cool "Terminator-vision" that updates information on the objects you view as you view them). With the appropriate satellite communications gear, a wearer can even access real-time satellite imaging views and overlay topographical, meteorological, and even tactical data over a viewed expanse of environment. The helmet also has motion-sensing features which track the position of the wearer's head, so the user can remotely control, say, the cameras on a reconnaissance UAV or installation security cameras with head movements, and the view projected on the composite plates will adjust accordingly. |

It was a cool toy as a kid, who didn't want astronauts and spaceships. But for a covert, rapid response military unit... naw...

Yeah, covert it is NOT. Remember the issue (109 or 110 I think) when they launch the Defiant in order to drop the Mobile Command Center from space and Wild Card (who must be Tripwire's replacement) releases the chute. This is GI Joe at it's most puerile.

Here's an updated version of the organizational outline (no more typos, I hope):
It just occurred to me that I never bothered explaining what the bolded character names meant... those are just the characters I've yet to make entries for. I think I've updated all the filecards I've put up in the Filecard Project album to reflect this latest (and hopefully last) update to the force structure. If I missed anything, let me know. Also, two new entries to start off the weekend: Airwave & Dee-Jay Design notes: - Dee-Jay was a bit challenging but still fun to make, given his roots as a BattleForce 2000 character. The key to making him more contemporary was swapping out the primary zinc white elements of the original costume (the hat/helmet and the chest plate) with more subdued real-world analogues (tan hat and tac-vest). |
