So started on the armory last night, it's pretty much done except for some detailing which I may or may not end up doing.
First shot is the armory in reference to the rest of the base. Left side of the level. Top space is the aircraft ordanance armory. Middle is the vehicle ordanance armory. And the 3rd is personal weapons ordanance armory. Just a shot showing the hallway, it's wide enough to drive a vehicle thru.

Right side of the level. The large area at the top is the indoor firing ranges. I may or may not detail it out, not sure yet. Behind the elevator is Static Line's Office (he serves as my aircraft armorer). The next office belongs to the vehicle armorer (not named yet). Across the hall is Munitions Office (the personal weapons armorer). The area around his office is the weapons workshop. Close-up of his office. Can see he has a window looking into the range and the weapons workshop has a pass-thru (with security shutter) that opens into the range so when someone is shooting they can pass it to the armorer on duty and get some adjustments made. This is the space in the back, it's nicknamed "The Blast Box". Thicker walls, thicker doors. This is the blast room, where alot of testing takes place, ordance, explosives, and R&D. The little space behind it is the control/observation room. There's blast shutters that can close off the observation room. The large space between the "Blast Box" and the weapons workshop will be developed. It's going to connect the Armory, Blast Box and R&D. Just not sure how it'll all work yet.

Not sure how this is relevant, but since we've been discussing Footloose, guess what other music Icon shared the same birthplace.

Another question about sleeping arrangements. At what rank does the officer/enlisted barracks change? Is it at sargeant or is it higher that the soldier would no longer be in the enlisted barracks?

Kidding aside, I'm somewhat conflicted regarding the news of MJ's death. Not a fan of the man, particularly because all the allegations of child molestation that hounded him later in his career have soured me on "MJ the person," but he did put out some of the century's defining popular music, and I think he deserves some measure of posthumous reverence in that regard (although I haven't really been interested in anything he's put out since 1988's Bad). [sort of unrelated rant coming up] One of the things that I've noticed is that the general public has, by and large, grown increasingly incapable of evaluating art apart from the artist. It seems like nobody ever appreciates art by itself anymore. Everything has to be viewed or read or listened to in the context of who the artist is, what he/she believes politically or spiritually, his/her sexual orientation, his/her criminal record, what he/she ate for breakfast, etc. I think it was Troynos who started a (since deleted) thread regarding Hama's work on an Obama comic, and all these posters started coming out lambasting Hama and ridiculing his body of work on the basis of his support for the current president. One thing I wanted to ask those guys was, if you enjoyed Hama's work in the comics and the filecards when you didn't know what his political beliefs were, why should knowledge of his political stance now retroactively affect your valuation of his material? Why should that knowledge affect any aesthetic considerations regarding his current work, especially since, by most subjective measures, his writing has retained many of the same creative features it had before? It doesn't make sense to me. For instance, I can read and enjoy much of Chuck Dixon's non-superhero work, even if I find myself disagreeing with a lot of his publicly stated beliefs on politics, labour relations, and human sexuality. Heck, I remember watching Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph des Willens in college and just getting blown away by her work as a cinematographer. The fact that I "enjoyed" the film to some aesthetic degree, despite it being a piece of Nazi Party propaganda just speaks to the power of Riefenstahl's artistic vision. My enjoyment of Hama's, Dixon's and Riefenstahl's work doesn't mean I automatically agree with/endorse/condone what they say and do, it just means I like their work as artists. And although I don't know enough about any one artist's political beliefs to say that I share them (I think my politics, as an organized set of principles, aren't very popular), my agreeing with them on matters outside of aesthetics does not necessarily mean I would endorse their work sight unseen. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of people like to make blanket assumptions, taking one thing about a person (such as what music they listen to or what comics they like to read) and using it to classify and stereotype them in ways that don't make any rational sense. [rant over] Anyway, crazy day huh? Farah Fawcett dead, MJ dead, Shaq gets traded to the Cavs, Vince Carter gets traded to the Magic. If I had a blog I'd be getting serious typist's cramps trying to commit all my thoughts to electronic type before the day was over. Also, since I'm assuming we're pretty much all in the same age group here (late 20s to early 30s), does the news of Fawcett's and Jackson's deaths make you feel slightly older? I mentioned Fawcett's death to a girl manning the till at the supermarket and she had this vacant stare, followed by a "Who?" Last edited by zuludelta; 06-25-2009 at 10:06 PM.. |

Don't know what it is for the US Army, the Marines or the Air Force, but in the Navy, all the enlisted personnel up to the rank of E-6 are housed together, all the senior NCOs (E-7 to E-9) are housed somewhere else, and the officers (WOs, LDOs, and the commissioned officers) have their own designated barracks
