That looks great. Depending on how many toilet facilities are found within the "toilet room," you might want to add some more. Same for the individual shower units and the shower room.
Here are some quick guides on how many toilet units and shower units are ideal for a building (based on New Zealand housing guidelines, relevant figures highlighted in green): - Toilet allocation guide (note that the figures will vary depending on whether you want gender-specific toilet facilities or unisex facilities) - Shower allocation guide Also finished two more additions to the reference bible (coming down the home stretch, I just might make my self-imposed late June/early July deadline): Footloose & Recoil Design notes: - Not much to talk about here, I think. Footloose was simply updated in ACU and his weapon updated to reflect his position as a squad automatic rifleman. - As for Recoil, the one major update was with regards to his headgear. I could never figure out what it was originally (to me, it always looked like an inverted version of a small TV dinner tray or one of those styrofoam fastfood take-out boxes). Figured an actual helmet would look much better (not to mention be more practical). Also tweaked his filecard a bit, updating his birthplace information. There's no such place as "Fashion Island" in Washington, which is what the original filecard states as his birthplace. There is a place called Vashon Island though (about a three hour drive and a short ferry ride from where I live, incidentally), and I've seen it misspelled as "Fashon Island" once before, so maybe Hama (was it still Hama writing the filecards at the time?) just made a spelling error based on the phonetic features of the island's name. Aaaaarrgghh. Why am I awake right now?! Anyways...
First, let me say the images are nice. Nothing looks wonky (strange hands or feet). But I think you missed the mark a bit on these recreations, especially with Footloose. Footloose is one of those characters who's gear was fairly standard, so the details of who is visually come from the way he wears his uniform. The open collar and the sleeves rolled up to his biceps are an important feature for him. As far as the color scheme, it would have also helped it you used a more muted green for his webgear. I don't suppose the leaves on the helmet would make much sense, but I think I was looking for some kind of analogue there. As for Recoil, he is a lot closer to the original design. His color scheme overall is great, and I like the way you handled the helmet and goggles. He just needs his boots and gloves to be a darker brown (similar to the one you used for Footloose's boots) and the shade of green you used on his helmet for his webgear and he's good to go. I really like to figure out who is who before I scroll down to the names. It took me about five seconds to figure out who Recoil was, and I only got Footloose because I've almost memorized your chart and knew he was on the fireteam with Recoil and was an automatic rifleman. Normally your designs smack me right away, so I was a bit disappointed this time around. PS: Snaq to the Cavs? Last edited by Master Thespian; 06-25-2009 at 04:58 AM.. |

Good points about Recoil's helmet, I'll be adjusting the shade on that one as well. As for Shaq to the Cavs... I think the latest rumour is that Danny Ferry is hesitating on pulling the trigger, on the off-chance that he might be able to swing a deal for Wince Carter (yeah, that's me, just another disgruntled Raptors fan ). EDIT: Recoil updated as per MT's suggestions (went in the opposite direction with it though, changing his helmet to match his webgear/suit, for a more unified multicam look). Also, since we're sneaking in NBA rumours here, anybody else hear the rumour about the Indiana Pacers possibly relocating to Vancouver? I'm not a fan of owners "stealing" other city's franchises but seeing as how Vancouver used to have an NBA team, I think it's all just karmic sports payback for Michael Heisler spiriting away the Grizzlies in 2001. The overall colour is a potentially major issue as far as character recognition is concerned, one that I don't think will be easily resolved with minor tweaks. It came down to one of two things: either go with the contemporary ACU and lose a fair bit of the visual ties to the original character design, or go with older, Army camo from the prior century similar to Footloose's original uniform, such as the 6-colour desert pattern that was the standard during the 1980s. I went with the former, on the basis of that approach being more consistent with how I've made all the other Joes.
Problem with that Shaq trade is at this point, I think the Cavs would still need another guy like a Vince/Tracy (healthy) before they could make a real run for the title (this just addresses the lack of a real inside presence, they still need some outside shooting). |

Okay, I can't decide between these 2 versions of Recoil:
Version A is coloured according to Master Thespian's suggestion. Version B is a tweak based on the same idea (having the helmet and webgear in the same shade), but with the helmet made to match the colour of the lighter webgear (as opposed to A, where the webgear is colour-matched with the darker helmet). I think the first one is more faithful to the original toy design, but the second one has a more unified and camo-effective look. Quote:

I hate when any league has team relocation, so I hope the Pacers don't go north. Sorry, Canada. Agree 100% on the LeBron stuff (someone has clearly been watching more NBA stuff than they lead on ) |

Well, you do have Big Lob and Bazooka running around in red jerseys, lol. He still looks realistic in A, but is much more recognizable. You had a bit of a design epiphany (I think it was around the time you updated Spirit) when you stated that (I'm obviously paraphrasing here) while you wanted to make the characters more modern and realistic, you didn't want to lose the key design elements or individuality of the original figures. I think as long as your design is believable within the context of the real world, making the character hit signature aesthetic notes is the next priority.

The thing about ball-dominant wing players is that they need that "insta-hot" guy they can dish off to when iso'ing stops being effective. Kobe just demonstrated that recently when Fish saved them on a couple of game-changing plays against a pesky Magic team. Jordan had Pippen and Steve Kerr. Even Larry Legend (not the first guy you think of when you think "iso") had the Microwave. AI's Sixers and T-Mac's Magic, on the other hand, are the perfect examples of teams led by ball-dominant wing players who lived and most assuredly died by the iso play, and could never find meaningful success on the court, despite all the gaudy stats their star players can put up (although AI did bring the Sixers to the Finals once, but that was more through sheer force of will on his part). One benefit of my job is I have access to building codes, lol.
According to the International Building Code (The "uniform" building code for the US, technically every state is supposed to follow the same code to make it easier to work from state to state, but they don't. Each state can choose to adopt the Code or use their own and those that adopt the Code can choose to edit it as they see fit. Some states even leave it up to seperate towns to adopt whatever code they want. And don't even get me going on handicap accessibility, that is a NIGHTMARE to deal with, every state is different) a dormitory needs 1 toilet per 10 people (so I'd need 8) and 1 shower per 8 people (so I'd 10 showers). Definately have the room for it, I've fit more into less before, lol. I'll doublecheck with the International Plumbing Code but it wasn't in our Code Library this morning, one of the plumbers has to have it on their desk. I looked at an older IBC (2000, the current code isn't adopted by any states yet, the newest code currently in use by most states is the 2003 IBC) because the newer wasn't in the code library, but I know the fixture counts don't vary much from 2000 to the next edition of 2003. The first call we make on any project is to the town's building department and ask 'em "what code do you use"?

I like Recoil alot. Resembles the original figure enough and just looks real now, where the original just looked odd.
I do agree with Thespian about Footloose, he doesn't really resemble his figure. The figure had a "laid back" look to it, that doesn't carry over into this one.

I think Footloose is probably the hardest to make unique since he is the most plain regular guy of the team. His only distinguishing characteristic was his porn-stache. He is a great toy nonetheless. I like what you have, maybe the shortsleeves and a silver bracelet may make a difference. But as far as regular Army look goes he's totally authentic. Recoil A would be my choice if only for the darker green. Otherwise he sort of has the same problem as Footloose in that he is somewhat of a plain character. And no one should be using baby-Blue machine guns.
