I'm with Troynos. Working "knowing is half the battle" into the bible in an official capacity like that would be awesome. Deep Six looks great. It really makes me eager to see Wet Suit (and Torpedo) in land looks.

I always wish they had made a Deep-Six figure that looked like that. I hated the figure with the huge diving suit. I never used him. He sat in the bottom of the box forever.

Yeah, I'm already more than halfway convinced in using "Ex Scientia Victoria" as the unit's official motto. I like how it's a subtle reference to the old GI Joe PSAs while at the same time implying that true victory comes from knowledge and wisdom, and not simply with directed violence (SOF operations, to me, have always been more about the judicious and intelligent use of potentially lethal force to prevent further loss of life in ways conventional armed forces can't, and not about having the best shooters or "toughest" soldiers or whatever macho posturing people like to ascribe to everything SOF-related). And phrasing it in Latin just makes it sound much more impressive and "deep."

Here's a list of Latin mottos I'm considering:
- Ex scientia victoria: translates as "from knowledge, [comes] victory" (a play on "knowing is half the battle" :P) - Ne plus ultra: translates literally as "nothing greater" or "nothing beyond" (in practical usage, meant to mean "the best of the best") - Operibus anteire: leading the way with deeds (generally taken to mean as "actions, not words") - Stamus contra malum: We stand against evil - Opere et viritate: In action and truth (generally taken to mean as "letting actions speak for the truth") What do you guys think?

Yeah, definitely liking the first two. Hard to choose between them. And that Deep Six is awesome! Nice homage to his early appearances, and very practical.

Deep six is awesome.
I keep looking at that cartoon clip and back then thought wow Deep-Six is a tough SOB. no I think how in the hell did a shell from the Rattler's Vulcan cannon not blow his arm and possibly his head right off? Yeah, "Knowing is half the battle" is the only motto that by just saying mean but one thing. |

Well, here's the final design for the 1st Joint Operations Expeditionary Group (GIJOE) Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI):
I'm quite happy with how it turned out, especially since I put in quite a bit of research into the thing, looking at crests and flashes from special operations units throughout the Army's history, trying to get a feel for authenticity in design. Every element and colour has some heraldic significance (for instance, the colours I used for the motto scroll are meant to suggest the Ranger tab). Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I feel like it's a more professional-looking (not to mention mroe authemntic-looking) unit insignia than the one in the upcoming film (although to be fair, the film's GI Joe insignia -- the one with a stylized eagle's head -- is a more practical design for tampo application onto toys and card backs). |

LOoks great Zulu. Can't a unit have the flash and a patch as well?
Even some of the WWII patches seemed a little like Martha Washington hand sewed them. Today's military seems to have adopted mostly professional looking patches and flash. |
