Hey, Troy, I think you may have to increase your runway length. Although 3000 feet is sufficient for an assault landing, which puts a lot of stress on a C-130, 5000 feet is really the minimum length for normal takeoffs and landings at full payload. Besides, you can never have too much runway and the longer the runway, the more aircraft you can land there. Plus, I'm not sure where Ft Hama is going to be, but if it's located at elevations of 4000 feet or more above sea level, you'll need an even longer runway to compensate for the decrease in aircraft performance due to high density altitude.

With a "hidden" location in the mountains, I don't necessarily need a wall around the entire base. But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

If you want to land fighters there, I'd say 7000-8000 feet with arresting gear would be sufficient at sea level.

Are you worried that you won't be able to build a perimeter big enough to secure a 10,000 foot runway?

Yeah. It left ALOT of empty space. The old one, the above ground with all the buildings, had a 10000 foot runway and it was LONG. Created a very large base and I just kept wanting to fill it and fill it and fill it, lol.

Yeah I can see the "need" to add more turning into a problem. ;) But if you decide to go "technical" and you want to base skystrikers there, then you'll probably need the same runway requirements as an F-14 B/D, which at an elevation of say 5000 feet, you'll need about 14,000 feet. If they were based somewhere like Pensacola, then 10,000 would be plenty.

If operating A-10s or equivalent, then about 9000 ft at high elevations should be long enough to continue a takeoff with an engine failure at rotation.

Now on the other hand, if you decide to commandeer some Firebats and Trouble Bubbles for Joe use, then you could just shoot them straight out the top of your mountain! No need to worry about them coming back either.
