Makes sense. Kind of like Secret Service type training I assume....be good, especially in the case he is transporting VIP type personnel or being a driver in a combat zone.

Zulu, glad to see that you finally decided to do Colton. I love his file card. Hama himself couldn't have done better. Pic looks great. Do you have any plans to supplement the file cards with additional bios about their service history, promotions, medals and achievements, operations and maybe personal anecdotes?
The thing that I've got against throwing in service history and award qualifications and others, more than the limted space constraints and the time it would take to do them, is that I want to keep the timeframe of the Joes open to interpretation. With each added detail, I'm more at risk of "time-locking" this particular version of the Joes and limiting the utility of the reference bible across time. Sure, I can refer to events in a vague-ish manner, like say, by avoiding any specific references to locales and actual events. I could, for example, substitute "the Middle East" for Iraq or Afghanistan, "East Africa" for Somalia, and "the Balkans" for the former Yugoslavia, but I think it would clash tonally with the detailed and specific training information already in the filecards. I've been thinking about the idea of adding psychological/personality profiles though (Hama originally intended to include those in the filecards, but they ended up getting reduced to optional "flavour text" sections), as separate entries to the reference bible besides the filecards, as I think it's possible to write those in a way that doesn't paint me in a corner chronologically. I'll probably add those in a subsequent version of the reference bible though, as creating them would take a significant amount of time and effort. I'd have to get a genuine "feel" for each character first, by reading their filecards and by looking up any comic book and cartoon appearances if possible. If I'm doing personality write-ups, I want to commit as much research and effort into them as I do for the character re-designs and the training information. Quote:
Thanks! Keeping the chronological ambiguity while working in as much detail as possible to the costumes and uniforms has certianly been one of the more challenging parts of redesigning the characters. A lot of the Joes have their iconic looks tied to decade-specific costume and uniform details, and compensating for hat really adds tot eh workload over time. |

If you do the pysch things, make sure it's done like an official report from Pysche-Out to Hawk or something like that.

Yeah I kind of appreciated those more than say from Gung-Ho or Zap. I'd say Cobra ones seem to be okay if they would come from a joe who may have had a run in with the said cobra, and that's the best intel available. But Hawk, Psyche-Out, Doc, Courage, Duke. I suppose Sgt Majors and Team Leaders could be charged with filing these types of reports. Still that's a huge endeavor. You haven't even done the Cobra Cards yet. Don't burn yourself out, or your hands either for that matter. |

I'm sure you'd find plenty of people willing to help with the pysch/mission profiles on this thread.

EDIT: If he's the team S2, would he still do this kind of thing? If not, it might be nice to see the profiles from a Dr. Lawrence Hama (since he's responsible for them in the first place). Last edited by Master Thespian; 06-10-2009 at 11:28 PM.. |

I always picture Pysche-Out as the team's head shrink.
But Dr. Lawrence Hama is a great idea.

Zulu, I don't know if it's been asked/answered anywhere, but when you do the "bad guys", were you planning on including the Oktober Guard? I know they didn't get figures until the 2000s, but they apparently fairly frequently in the comics from 1982-onward, and I'd LOVE to see your take on the team.
