Liking the Spirit update. He's got a good combination of hunter and soldier going on.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with how much better he turned out. The overriding blue of the 19th century Army blouse was really distracting me once I'd started thinking looking at the initial design more fully. This way, I think, he can still pass for a modern soldier... he just happens to be wearing a replica or vintage 19th century Indian Scout shirt under his tactical vest.

Yeah, Spirit looks vey cool. And if I'm not mistaken, that's Lou Diamond Phillips as Spirit's "head".

Much better, zd. I like that in some cases you're going back and hemming closer to the original designs (especially as it applies to the major, iconic characters). Which isn't to say abandon the awesome design choices you made in the past. This Spirit is a great example of combining the two.

This makes a good amount of sense, but then should they plan a major assualt, they need a base nearby or the Flagg to operate from. Really only for the Aircraft. Aircraft Carriers can't really transport ground equipment though, unless its a Tarawa class Carrier. Do these HSVs carry landing craft? Once an assault force is on the ground they may no longer need the Flagg. Although American Air superiority is what gives the US it's advantage. It's nice for the Air Combat Contollers to call in ordnance on a target. Needing a longer runway: The Skystirker is an intercetor Fighter Ghost Striker (F-16) Ground Support/Fighter Storm Eagle (F-15 wannabe) Interceptor Fighter X-19 Stealth Bomber/Fighter X-30 Conquest -Fighter Skysweeper -F-117 Stealth Fighter Thunderwing- (F-22) Air superiority fighter SkyRaven ??? VTOL and short runways TigerRat (A-10)Ground Support Mudfighter ground Support The Joes need the VTOL version of the F-35s like nobodys business The Marines are planning on buying 340 of these. |

Yeah, so if the Joes are in a large assault, the fighters would be moved from Fort Hama to a nearby Carrier or Base to support the mission.
So there would end up being air support nearby, it's just pretty unrealistic to think it comes from the Flagg all the time, or a base. Since the Alpha Teams (the large scale assault units) are at Fort Hama, when those start moving out, the Joe air force moves out with 'em.

Yup. I know he's not Apache (I think he's a 1/4th Cherokee, 1/4th indigenous Hawaiian, and 1/2 Filipino) but he's one of those guys who can pass for one... he played one on "Young Guns" (one of my favourite movies when I was a kid... so cheesy but so much fun, classic 1980s pop culture fodder).
I love and own Young Guns. Great movie.

Something the Joes always should have had (along with an AC-130), specially modified for Joe-use (just like all their equipment) was a Boeing E-3 Sentry , the AWACs plane. Would make sense if the Joes are involved in a large-scale assault, would fly overhead and provide coordination and give the Skystrikers something to do and protect during the battles.
Now that adds an additional 18-22 air force members to the Joe force.

Yeah I guess if you deploy an Air Force the E-3 in totally necessary. Although carrier based aircraft would be using the E-2 Hawkeye for a similar function.
