The working draft for the next class of JHSV ships the Navy is thinking of acquiring can be found here:
http://advancedmaritimetechnology.at...pec-060913.pdf The HSV-2 comes pretty close to matching all those specifications. I had the detailed spec sheet for it somewhere, but I think it's already buried deep in my DVD back-ups, and I don't feel like digging it out. Off the top of my head, I think it has permanent living quarters to "sleep" 120 passengers (including a crew of 38 or so), and it can further accomodate another 180 passengers in airline-style seating. I think the Joes could/would use two of these, or 1 of 'em and something a little smaller. I think they'd want to divide up the teams on the two ships for maximum area of coverage. Now this works also, because the Flagg is 1 ship and doesn't get around very fast. So 1 HSV-2 could have 1/2 the Delta Teams and maybe the Naval VBSS unit. The 2nd HSV-2 could have the other 1/2 of the Delta Teams and the SEaL unit or something. I'm liking that idea. But what about the aircraft? How do you get a Skystriker from North America to Asia for a mission without having to stop and taking days?

Spirit & Long-Range design notes: - Decided to make Spirit more faithful to the original toy design, even though it is loaded with potentially stereotypical/culturally insensitive design pitfalls. I did some research and I'm convinced that Spirit's original design was meant to echo the uniforms worn by the Apache and Navajo Scouts that the Army recruited during the Indian Wars of the 1870s (incidentally, the "crossed arrows" Special Forces insignia is meant to be an homage to the US Army Indian Scout and Seminole-Negro Scout units of the 1870s, considered to be the precursor of America's modern Special Forces). - The red chevrons on his vintage shirt's sleeves not only denote rank, but also branch of service. Yellow chevrons signified a soldier was a Cavalry man, light blue meant he was in the infantry, red stood for artillery, deep maroon for ordnance, and red with white piping signified the corps of engineers. I have no idea why Spirit wore an artillery man's army blouse, but I decided to keep it with this re-design. I'm leaning towards changing the chevrons to infantry blue, though, just so it will fit in better with Spirit's actual primary MOS. What do you guys think? Red chevrons or light blue chevrons? - This version of Long-range is a hybrid of the Sigma 6 version of the character (who was a sniper) and the 2005 version of the character (a "transportation expert"). I don't really know much about the character, but the design is basically an attempt to retain the qualities of the Sigma 6 character while making him look more realistic (for one thing, I dispensed with the trenchcoat and replaced it with a much mroe practical jacket). I don't know what real world analogue you'll be using for the Skystriker, but it's possible to make the trip without stopping with the use of air-to-air refuleing (that is, if the fighter is capable of refueling in mid-air).

Long Range looks like an angry Steven Seagal, rest of it is great though.
I'd do light blue chevrons for Spirit. The shirt is a dark blue versus the original light blue, so the light blue chevrons as well as being true to his MOS will also be a homage to his original shirt color.

Also, getting rid of the Flagg and going to the JHSVs will give greater weight to having as many Jets at Fort Hama as I do, since it will be the primary airbase.

As for Long-Range, something's just not clicking with this one. Without the trenchcoat, he had short sleeves. And the use of the original Sigma Six animated styled head makes him look strange in comparison to your other updates. |

Air-refueling or why not use something like the B-1, which has a range of over 6,000 miles, as a small team transport. Just create something unique for your needs. A supersonic, air-refuelable, troop-transport capable of landing on an aircraft carrier.

I don't think one can fly that long for a battle. But maybe spend a day flying to the theater and then a day of rest, but every plane needs crew and an airfield.
I think the Aurora may work well for a supersonic transport, like the Resolute cartoon. I love these HSVs They're like the new USS Jane. What is the range of these things. |

I'm noticing that I don't do so hot with you guys when it comes to characters that I'm not all that familiar with (something that I sort of expect, actually). In retrospect, I was probably subconsciously just looking at Long Range as an excuse to make a scout sniper for the Joe team, and not really create an image that would be recognizable as an incarnation of "Long-Range." I guess it's back to the drawing board for this guy. |
