Thanks. I found some models that are closer to the Conquest, but they lacked landing gear and I didn't feel like putting gear on 'em, so went with something that was single-seater and seemed kind of "out there" but realistic.
I don't know what I'll do about the Flagg. I also don't think the Flagg goes around by itself, I'm wondering what the Joe Support Fleet looks like.. |

I believe the Conquest was based on Grummna's X29, but I never cared for the look of forward swept wings. File:Grumman-X29-InFlight.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The CH-46 might be your primary carrier-based transport helo, but it's not gonna go half-way round the world.

Yeah, need/want something that can go 1/2 way round the world fairly quickly. There will be times when they have to get people from the Flagg to Fort Hama as quickly as possible.

If you really have to have a large ship for the Joes, I think you should go with a JHSV (Joint High-Speed Vessel) like the HSV-X1 Joint Venture or the HSV-2 Swift. USSOCOM/JSOC used them to rapidly transport company-sized detachments (~ 300 personnel) of special operations soldiers, marines, and sailors in the Middle East and they can carry something like 100 HMMWVs each in the internal vehicle bays (a single JHSV can carry as much equipment in one trip as twenty-five C-130 sorties... that's a lot of time, fuel, and manpower savings). What's interesting about the JHSVs is that they're commercial high-speed ferries (made in AUstralia, IIRC), retro-fitted and converted for military use. The fact that they're so much faster and fuel efficient than anything the Navy currently has in deployment just outlines how large the gulf has become between military vehicle development and commercial vehicle development. The newer version of the JHSV (the HSV-2 Swift) is equipped with a helideck capable of landing a Blackhawk helicopter (with a hangar for stowing two more) and the best part is that the ships only need a crew of 35 to 40 sailors/naval officers (a commissioned Navy ship of equal carrying capacity would probably need two or three times as many personnel to run the ship). I suppose you could try attaching a tail hook to a C-40 (the military's 737-700 troop transport). Just make sure you clear the carrier deck of all aircraft, equipment and personnel. ;)

Never liked the idea of the Joes having a dedicated carrier. The carrier itself would probably need more people to man it than the whole Joe team could provide.

But then the Flagg itself would need a fleet of "protector" ships and probably a faster ship that can carry troops and equipment. The Flagg itself just serves as a means to launch the fighters from and the blackhawks and gives the Joes a "mobile" launching field. But if the JHSV can carry a couple Blackhawks and some vehicles... What about non-crew? How many could it "sleep".

I'm guessing you'll just have to fly them to a nearby friendly airfield in a C-37 Gulfstream V and then transport them from there to the carrier in a C-2A Greyhound.

Yeah, probably. Stupid military not having a learjet capable of landing on an aircraft carrier, lol.

http://advancedmaritimetechnology.at...pec-060913.pdf The HSV-2 comes pretty close to matching all those specifications. I had the detailed spec sheet for it somewhere, but I think it's already buried deep in my DVD back-ups, and I don't feel like digging it out. Off the top of my head, I think it has permanent living quarters to "sleep" 120 passengers (including a crew of 38 or so), and it can further accomodate another 180 passengers in airline-style seating. |
