How did we get started on Carlos Hitchcock? I saw the History Channel Special. And he's a Virginia Native. Total Awesomeness. But what would be awesome would a 25th style tribute line to some of the biggest badasses of our military's history. Maybe just a six pack to test the waters. Another complete and total Hoss: Special Forces, Master Sergeant Roy Benavidez. He won his medal of honor on his second tour in Vietnam. He stepped on a landmine and lived on his first tour and came back for more.

"Fruit Salad" refers to his awards/ribbons on his chest. Awards and ribbons are often referred to as "fruit salad" because they're colorful. Also, personal achievement badges like Airborne Wings, Pathfinder Badges, HALO wings, or Air Assault Wings, etc... those are commonly known as "Chest Candy". I soldier with a lot of "Chest Candy" is usually considered to be very qualified and "High Speed".

I think I know what you mean. (Im a bit unfamiliar all the military lingo I admit.)
In my Joeverse, Duke is like he was in one comic I remember reading, where he trained the new GI Joe recruits. (is that what yo mean by NCOIC?) I also dont mind him as a squad leader when the need arises. He's good for that too. (I dont hate him altogether, it just annoys me that Hasbro seems to have forgotten who the real (not to mention original) leader of the GI Joe team is. And they keep pushing Duke down our throats as the teams leader. In the Army, E-9 (Sargent Major-SGM)) is the highest enlisted pay grade. However, sometimes in a large unit there are multiple E-9's. To avoid confusion, one of them is placed as the "Command Sargent Major" to maintain a clear chain of command. All the E-9's would get paid the same amount, but the Command Sargent Major (CSM) has command authority over all enlisted personnel and facilities. This works at different levels. SGM's generally work at the Battalion level (made up of Companies, and commanded by a LTC). Companies (which are made up of Platoons and commanded by Captains) have First Sargents (1SG) as their Top NCO (or NCOIC). Platoons, which are made up of squads, have a Sargent First Class (SFC) as thier Platoon Sgt, or NCOIC. Does this make sense? Anyway, above a Battalion there are Brigades, above Brigades you have Divisions. Brigades have SGM's, and Divisions have SGM's. So a Battalion Command Sargent Major is over every enlisted man in the Battalion. However, the Brigade CSM is over all the Battalion CSMs, and the Division CSM is over all the other CSM's. Is this still making sense? Consequently, I have Duke as the NCOIC (CSM) of the entire G.I. Joe force. There are other SGM's, but they are all under Duke. That's how I keep Duke as the Top NCO in G.I. Joe, but also recognise the fact that there are other SGMs and even other CSMs. If you'll look back 5 or 6 (could be more by now) pages in this thread, you'll see I've provided my ranking system for the Joe team... that may give you a picture of how that all works withing a large Chain of Command. Hope this helps, and if it's still not clear, just ask. I'm glad to help as best I can.

I would then say, "Well, Sgt, it's a good thing you didn't see me earlier. I don't have any, and I would be of no nutritional value." This always made him laugh at 0530.

Loose cannon, I prefer to keep the core joes with their lower original rank because even though I think the team needs more officers, I just can't see high ranking officers going into the field. I have no problem with a Major or even Lt Col dropping some brass but full bird Colonels and Generals just aren't going to get into the action.
