I also wonder why there are sometimes 3-man sniper teams. I've seen this in places in the FM and many might not know this but the two Delta snipers--Shughart and Gordon--that were killed defending Michael Durant's Blackhawk were part of a 3-man sniper team. The third sniper was manning the mini-gun of their Blackhawk due to a crew chief's injury so he was not deployed on the ground with the others.
I wonder how much longer they could have survived with a third sniper or even another sniper section in the area. I would love to see a 25th style of tribute figures for some of those real badass MOH winners. Like those two. Preferably WWII and after since any prior may seem out of place and hard to integrate with the figures now. But I'd make exception for Sgt York. But Audie Murphy, to more recently Michael Murphy. My favorite: BENAVIDEZ, ROY P. But also some of the Commanders that led to the creation of today's Special Forces: William Darby, Frank Merrill, Evans Carlson and Particularly this guy who we wouldn't even have what wer have William Joseph Donovan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Yeah, the Colonel Courage character seems perfect for the S1 position. And a rappin' & rhymin' black officer is just what the team needs to go with Barbecue, Spirit, and Quick-Kick . I'll have to "demote" him to O-3 or O-4 though, since I've got Hawk as the Colonel and head honcho in my re-imagined GI Joe structure. Captain Courage and Major Courage sounds just as good (or bad, depending on how one likes these cheesy codenames) or even better than Colonel Courage.

Yeah, sounds way better and less superhero-y.

So who do you guys like to use as Ace's backseater? The Joes don't really have any navigators. When I was a kid, Rip Cord was the obvious choice because he was equiped to eject at high altitudes if the need arose but he belongs with a HALO insertion team, not in a jet.

I always thought it was pretty weird that Hama would have guys like Zap, Ripcord, and even Lady Jaye as pilots and navigators since none of them are officers or warrant officers, but I guess he was just making do with what Hasbro gave him (making do with doo-doo, so to speak). |

I use the Tiger Force Tripwire as Skystriker's Gunner. Hate the Figure so his codename is Numbnuts, but also a sort of tribute to WWII gunners who would worry about getting their Nuts shot off.

Now let me say this: The quote you referenced at the bottom of this page is right on: it's single elimination in the career of an Army Officer, and they DRILL THAT INTO THE CADETS of West Point. In the Army, it's kind of like high school. Jocks are still cooler than the smart kids, and the only way to be smart and still be cool is to be a Smart Jock. That's life in the Army. And even though Special Forces is "Really Cool". It's only like 2% of the Army. SF is sort of like the Lacrosse Team... Lacrosse is a tough sport, and you gotta be really athletic and everyone knows it's cool - but the main sport is Football. The Infantry is like Football in the Army. It's the main attraction. As my father, a career Transportation Officer puts it, "The Infantry IS the Army... everything else is just Infantry Support". That's life in the Army. So if the Army is High School, the Combat Branches are the Jocks and the Infantry is the Football Team. Does that make sense? MP's are like hall monitors... no body likes those suck ups. Transportation and Ordinance (Logistics) are like the guys in Shop Class and VOTECH. They're not nerds, but they're not Jocks and nobody really knows where they hang out after school or on the weekends. They're probably smoking behind the school. Intel guys are often like the Art class kids or Band Nerds. All other staff officers pretty much fall into the category of some kind of nerd. Finance guys are Math nerds. Chemical Corps are science nerds. JAG are the kids who are really into Student Government. And the AG Corps are the Social Studies nerds who really want to be office monitors. And the Army/Marine word for nerd is POG - Person Other than a Grunt. Now, I know this analogy is a little ridiculous and it's meant to be funny. But think for just a minute: That's how the Cadets as West Point are trained for their entire time in College. That's how they look at it. That's the social structure of their college experience, and it carries over right into their careers in the Army. So if you're Grid-Iron, and you've been a high achiever your whole life, all your training is going to tell you: Get in the Infantry, Excel in the Infantry, and STAY in the Infantry! ... but in the Marines and the Army, everybody follows the Infantry. |

QUOTE] I don't want to drive you crazy with suggestions with guys outside the scope of the years you're using. Courage just seems to fit the part better than anyone. I'm not sure what the intention was with him being an administrator to begin with. He has a certain XO quality about him, yet Gen Flagg was rereleased the same year and Hawk was Maj Gen by then 93. Still your total structure is about 283 which essentially leaves a spot for every named joe + some. I was going to use what ever you came up with as the "new Joe Bible" and incorporate the rest along those lines. Your GIJoe Org chart is a much more thought out and ambitious project than anything Hasbro or Marvel or DDP ever put out. (Although I did like the DDP list of operatives from the BattleFiles.) There is still room for IDW. But your's makes the most sense as far as realistic playability. |
