Wow there are some big ole boys on this thread! I guess I'm the middle man, weighing in at 190 lbs and 6'1". But I'm about 10% bodyfat and have lifted weights since 9th grade. My max bench is 330 lbs so I'm no wuss but I'm no expert in edged weapons or neck breaking either. I studied Hapkido when I was younger (kind of a gay martial arts form) and boxed a little. I also grew up hunting so I can handle firearms but what would be really fun would be taking a long range rifle course. Sure I'd like to be a Ranger but how about sniper Ranger to be precise.

Also, in Black Hawk Down, according to Bowden, there are PFCs in the Ranger units who had not been to Ranger School yet. This struck me as odd. Why are the PFCs fighting in the Ranger unit when they haven't even been to Ranger School yet? When do Ranger candidates usually attend Ranger School and do they fight normally fight alongside Ranger before they attend Ranger school?
The other alternative explanation is that they're guys who've signed a Ranger contract with a recruiter and have gone through Infantry AIT and Airborne School, and they have what might be considered a probationary status with the regiment while they wait for a spot in Ranger School to open up. Of course, if they fail Ranger School (and about half of the people who go to Ranger School do), they'll be recycled into another infantry unit. Last edited by zuludelta; 05-30-2009 at 01:10 AM.. |

Alright, I hear what y'all are saying about Tiger Force being crazy colors and Sky Patrol looking too sci-fi or whatever...
Let me ask the question a different way. Let's say they were starting from scratch and they asked y'all to help make the rosters for a Jungle sub-team they were going to call, "Tiger Force". You can help design the uniforms later. Who would you choose? Second: An anti-terrorist/CQB sub-team called "Night Force" Third: An Combat Control/PJ sub-team called "Sky Patrol" Forth: A Marine Recon unit called "Mega Marines" Fifth: An Airborne LRRP unit called "Battle Rangers" Again, the uniforms can be sorted out later... who would you put on the rosters if it were up to you? 1. Claymore 2. Falcon 3. Flint 4. Tunnel Rat 5. Recondo 6. Outback Night Force (more like Delta Force): 1. Low-Light 2. Snake-Eyes 3. Beach Head 4. Shockwave 5. Surefire 6. Bullhorn Mega Marines (would prefer Marine Force Recon) 1. Gung-Ho 2. Leatherneck 3. Muskrat 4. Pathfinder 5. Mainframe 6. Mirage Battle Rangers (Airborne Rangers incognito): 1. Airborne 2. Hit N Run 3. Repeater 4. Recoil 5. Duke 6. Sneak Peek Sky Patrol (82nd Airborne or PJs): 1. Ripcord 2. Crazylegs 3. Lifeline 4. Freefall 5. Altitude 6. Airwave |

I guess Bull Horn was sort of a sniper... he came with that awesome briefcase with the sniper rifle parts in it. I stand on the side of the debate that makes him a Marine... namely because it's an unresolved issue and we need more Marines in the Joes. I always figured he was trained as a Marine Sniper. I suppose he'd be more effective in an urban/HRT setting.
Spirit has that feel about him too. I also utilize Snow Job as my arctic sniper/marksman. |

Master Thespian managed to convince me to extend the roster list to include the 1991 GI Joes, along with instilling some other roster changes. I've also settled on a plausible job title for Snake-Eyes and a position within the organization where his disability won't be much of an issue. Below is the link to the updated organizational outline and roster (5 pages, PDF format):
I've updated the filecards to accomodate the changes (let me know if there are any mismatches between the document and the filecards). Anyway, here's a 1991 Joe, Ozone (from the Eco-Warriors sub-team) drastically updated (I've made him an officer to start... I'd originally intended to promote Airtight to CBRN officer status, but I've always viewed hjim as an enlisted specialist, so I ended up changing a character, Ozone, that I figure most fans haven't attached an enlisted label to, if they know the character at all), along with an updated version of Flash: Ozone & Flash I re-used the body I made for the previous version of Flash for Ozone, since I've got him as a CBRN officer (that's an AN/VDR-2 radiac set he's holding). This newer version of Flash is an infantry squad marksman, cross-trained as a joint fires observer (thus, he's skilled in the use of laser rangefinders and target designators). Their filecards have been added to the Filecard Project, the link to which can be found in my signature below. EDIT: I just counted and I've got 56 characters to go... at the rate of two filecards/images a day and making allowances for a couple of days missed, corrections, and compiling and editing the articles I've previously written and the vehicle blueprints I've mocked up, that means I'll probably be finished with the first edition of the "reference bible" by late June or early July, Last edited by zuludelta; 05-30-2009 at 07:04 AM.. |

These are Excellent Zulu. Flash looks great, But Ozone as an Officer is a good idea. Why waste FLint as the commander of the eco-warriors it should have been another guy like Ozone or Clean-Sweep.
So 1991 is good news since we loving seeing your work. Thats not too many new guys. A lot of version 2s and 3s. Will you do all the international guys? Red Star;Skymate; Big Ben? Tracker is in the most need of an Update. That's my favorite Mercer but you already did a great job on him. Have you done Lowlight yet? You get another helicpoter pilot with Major Altitude (I remember how disappointed I was he wasn't an actual Major.) Cloudburst needs non-white pants Heavy Duty. Machine Gunner or fire-team ? |
