Haven't had a chance to read #3 yet and hasn't been spoiled for me yet, but I'm figuring Chuckles shoots Jinx.

That's going to be a really interesting idea. I wonder how long it will take them for the Origins title to link up with the main title. That third issue of Cobra was disturbing. It's a great title - easily the best of the three - but it is not for the feint of heart.
The main title has disappointed me severely... oh, there's robots in the PIT! BIG DEAL! That should not drag on for 5 issues. It's ridiculous. I'm honestly to the point where I'm wondering if I shouldn't even bother with it. Everybody was all excited about Churck Dixon... not me, I was worried from the get go. I'm really enjoying Chuckles' role in the Cobra series. It's so dark and gritty that it almost doesn't feel like GI Joe and I'm anxious to see more of Cobra. So far we've seen these pseudo Crimson Guardsmen, but nothing else.

Yeah, I see their need to be creative and push the technological envelope but they could have thought of something more threatening. What I'm wondering is why Destro wants to learn the Pit's location at this point in time. The Joes really haven't been much of an interference in Cobra's operations so it seems really ambitious to go looking for their base. And the size of these critters is peculiar. The last one that Duke destroys seems to be about the size of a softball with itty bitty guns. What caliber does this thing shoot?
As for the Cobra Series, I wish they would make that ongoing. I really enjoy it. Chuckles is one crazy dude.

I like that don't see much of Cobra. We're left to discover what the size/scope of the operation is at the same time as Chuckles discovers.
We're left to wonder "just what is going on around here".

Yeah, that part doesn't make sense to me either... why is Destro so concerned with the location of the PIT? I haven't read issue 5 yet. I was so excited by the Preview issue... Joes doing a black Op on a boat in a foreign country. Awesome! Now that the series has actually started, most of the Joes haven't even left the PIT. Wierd.

It's supposed to be another mini-series or a special.

As for the Cobra Series, I wish they would make that ongoing. I really enjoy it. Chuckles is one crazy dude. RobertAtkins had this to say about the PIT being so prominant when it was brought up on the Reloaded Forums: The ramifications you mention are exactly what makes this different than the one in done, fairly campy version Hama wrote in the Marvel run. Dont get me wrong I love his writing and Im obviously a fan. I've probably mentioned this over in another thread so I'll just summerize my opinion of Dixon rehashing this "robot infiltrating the pit" story. 1. it gives an obvious nod and a wink to the old Marvel series for the long time fans. For new fans they've never seen it before and it accomplishes alot in the process. 2. one of the main things it did for us in this first arc was establish the pit fairly well, and demonstrated how GI JOE operates while giving us some fun cameos of various characters. 3. and finally, probably the most important is while doing the above it also allowed us to stay clear of Cobra directly for the GI JOE: Cobra mini series to do its job and reveal Cobra their own way. So while accomplishing all that in 3 issues, (and in actuality combine the Pit vs robot pages in the three issues and you basically have a single issues worth of story just like in the old run) there is one very major difference between this and the old. GI JOE didnt come out of this unscathed while a party was going on upstairs. They lost soldiers, they had high ranking wounded, and lost tons of vital data on Brainstorm's work and their facilities. Destro has all of that, and is only missing their exact location. Which Glynis alludes to being able to pinpoint with some research. How was that not a successful outcome for Destro and in proxy Cobra considering they knew nothing of GI JOE previous to these three issues? I've seen so many people bag on this being a worthless retelling, when Im looking at how all this moves the story forward and establishes Joe in this new version all at the same time. All of that said, I do see the slow build. I read through the issue after its out and feel like there should be more to it. I see where alot of you are coming from that feel the same way. Personally I figured alot of that came from the fact that I have read and drawn everything that comes next, and I quickly began thinking things that happen in the following issues were going to be in the recently released ones. They started blending together in my flurry to get it all done. The Destro/Baroness moments here were interesting and to me an unexpected approach. Baroness does stab Destro but only just enough to draw blood as a threat. Its hard to show just a little bit of blood and "sell it" and looking back on it I think you're right in saying it doesnt come across that well. My flub there. Up to this point its been Hawk then Scarlett, then the field commanders (Duke, Stalker) and their specialists. I dont see the two as having set teams. Only that they would bring with them those who are best suited for the mission. Unless you're Stalker, than you only allow Joes with mustaches on your team. So beyond Duke and Stalker, I dont know that there is an established chain of command. When Scarlett joined Duke's team on the vehicle lift in issue #4 she was taking orders from him I think simply because he was in field commander mode and she was needed with Tunnel Rat. otherwise it's been established that she is pretty much in charge, just under Hawk. Flint is probably the biggest enigma at the moment. If they needed a third field team at a moments notice, he would probably lead it. Scarlett obviously trusts him or she wouldnt have sent him to Scotland. Yes I will make Recondo's Mustache larger. Those scenes in the philipines from issue #2 and #5 just became 'Stache-fest 09. I had to try and give you all a variety some how. |

Man, talk about bad timing: Father's Day weekend? wow.
No, I can't make that. But, seriously, if we all (or most) of us want to get together in ATL or DC sometime - like maybe early Fall - I'm up for it. Let's just try to plan in advance so we can all get it on our schedule and budget for the trip. I think it would be great! So this afternoon's back and forth made me wonder while I was on my way home from work - who do you guys think did screw up enough to get demoted/reprimanded/kicked out of the Joes (the standard bearer for failure, I think I put it) or didn't belong in the first place? Oliver obviously thinks Duke, which I'm okay with as long as he knows I disagree. My first thought was Ripcord after the whole Cobra Island debacle that led to the unsuccessful attack on Springfield and Cobra's attack on the PIT. Just seemed like Ripcord made a whole string of bad decisions. Any thoughts?

I don't think you can blame Ripcord for that. He did find Springfield, it's not his fault that Cobra up and left before the Joes could finish the job.
I don't know. Never really seen any Joe continually screw up enough to warrant being kicked out. But a unit like the Joes should be very strict and have a "one time mess-up, you're out" policy. In the Mangler issue, Lightfoot was there and then in issue #82 (i think) when he's training with Repeater and Budo he says that he was sent back to training because of that mission and the Joes not thinking he was ready. I'll have to give it some thought.
