Hopefully she pans out. I haven't been too interested in any of the new "spotlighted" Joes/Cobras introduced after the Marvel series ended (e.g., Kamakura, Hannibal, Wraith). I'm a sucker for the "hot chick + guns" combo, so maybe that will change.
Oh, and here's my take on Keel Haul: design notes: - His look was inspired by the original toy and and Captain Gloval from Robotech/Macross (one of my favourite shows growing up). - The jacket he's wearing is a Navy Aviator G1 jacket (colloquially referred to as a "bomber jacket"), which had its origins in World War II and is still issued to naval pilots and navigators to this day (on a related note, I've always wondered why the 1986 version of Hawk was issued one). - the original toy design had him wearing a white combination cover (the "cop hat"). I changed it to a khaki one to match his khaki uniform. - sticklers for uniform accuracy will note that his hat no longer has the "scrambled eggs" on the visor. That's because I've designated him a lieutenant commander in his filecard, and not an admiral as he was originally designated in the ARAH toyline. To see all the other changes I made with the character, check out his filecard in the Filecard Project album (link is found in my signature). I kept the character's origins as a qualified fighter pilot, but pretty much remade him from the ground up specialty-wise (I'm biased, of course, but I think he's much cooler with the training and schooling I've ascribed to him). |

The C-130s appearred in the comics a ton of times. I wonder if it was the same one. Issue 12? when they drop off HQ in the mountains. Issue in the 70's or 80's when they team up with the Dreadnoks.
I'm wondering how many hangars you need for the Airfield. Or only the Top Secret ones. You probably have one as a maintenance Hanger. Will you have only one of each plane? Skystiker Conquest '86, '98, '03 Vector Phantom X-19 (Should be in a Hanger) Tiger Rat Night Boomer Mudfighter Sky Raven (In a hanger) Storm Eagle Ghost Striker X-16 A-10 thunderbolt (1997 rattler) Skysweeper (Hanger) Thunderwing I'm just listing them all. I'm just wondering which ones you're using, and how many. What about helicopters do they have a separate area? What about Skyhawks? I know you like those. Will the large playsets make an appearance? I can't imagine how you design the MCC or the General. or the Defiant Complex? 2 Skystrikers 2 Conquest 1 Phantom X-19 4 C-130 1 AC-130 The rest of the Jets don't exist (for my planning purposes). The Tiger Rat will be the jet at the Tiger Force base (which I already have a plan for how I want that one to look). The problem is finding models for the various things. So I'll probably substitute real planes for the Joe planes and/or close enough looking models. So right now I have models for: AC-130 C-130 A-10 Thunderbolt (Tiger Rat) Cobra Helicopter (Dragonfly equivalent) Apache (Dragonfly equivalent) Blackhawk (2 different versions) V-22 Osprey (replacing the Tomahawk) I want to use a large equipment/vehicle transport helicopter, have a model for a Sikorsky Skycrane, but wondering if there's a military equivalent? So as I'm looking thru the models, I'm grabbing stuff that looks similar to the Joe vehicles (the Cobra Helicopter) and stuff that looks like something the Joes could and would use (the V-22 Osprey and the AC-130). I really was hoping there would be a model for an MRAP vehicle, but nothing. Really disappointed in that. Things like the Rolling Thunder, Thunderclap, General, MCC and Defiant... I don't think I'm going to include them. It comes down to a "real world" idea. They're cool and all, but how do you move them around? If the Fort is in North America, how would you get the Rolling Thunder to Sierra Gordo or Trucial Abysmia, in time to be useful? And that would be easier then the MCC or General. So, if I incorporate them, they'll be on the Flagg or some other kind of transport ship. Helicopters: 6 Osprey 4 Blackhawk 2 Attack Blackhawk (model I found, it's pretty cool looking) 4 Cobra 4 Apache 6 Skycrane There's more of the transport vehicles then the attack vehicles. Need to be able to get all these people and equipment around the world.

So for hangers there will be:
Skystriker Conquest Phantom Maintenance (has to be large enough for the C-130) The helicopters and transport planes (along with the AC-130) will be parked in the open. I love Skyhawks, so would have a bunch of those (they're easy enough to load into the C-130) except for the model issue. There is a Skyhawk-like Model. I don't like it though, just doesn't look right (it's someone's interpreation of a Skyhawk). So I'm not sure what I'll do for that yet. I'm getting to the point where I need to assign real numbers to the amount of equipment and personal the Alpha teams will have. How many mortar teams will be part of the infantry units? How many and what kind of tanks, Hummers, etc..

An idea I've been kicking around for a Mobile Command Center is something more practical, along the lines of the Army's M1087 trucks. It's nowhere near as large as the Mobile Command Center (or even the HAVOC), but is a field-proven mobile command post. Quote:

Large ground attack/tactical vehicles like the MCC and the General are pretty impractical. Not only are they a logistical nightmare, they're also very large and relatively slow-moving targets. The MCC for example, would probably cost in the tens of millions of dollars range, but a well-placed shot from a $300 RPG-7 could pretty much render it useless as a "mobile" command center. Anything like that, that I do use, will be on a carrier ship so can at least be moved around fairly quickly (unloading it would be another issue). The ROCC and Rhino aren't too bad, they're decent sized. But the MCC, yeah that would never work for real. Quote:
A good real-world analogue for the Skyhawk is the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment's AH-6 and MH-6 Little Bird helicopters. Up to three of them can be loaded onto C-130s and two can be loaded inside a standard 40-foot ISO container trailer and they're light enough (less than 1000 lbs. dry and sans weapons) that they can be towed cross-country by a civilian pick-up.

That still leaves the question of what would make for a "faithful" real-world representation of the Skyhawk. One thing I think you should consider is the possibility of the real-world analogues of small single-seater craft like the Skyhawk or the Locust being UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). Here are some examples of the smaller, more easily transportable UAVs to get your imagination going: RQ-5 Hunter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia RQ-7 Shadow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia MQ-8 Fire Scout - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia RQ-11 Raven - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia RQ-14 Dragon Eye - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia RQ-15 Neptune - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

The Little Bird can replace both the Locust and the Skyhawk in the "Real Joe"-verse. Although, I'd love to see something that could have the Skyhawk's VTOL capability.

Figure you guys might get a kick out of this.
Provisional filecard for a Snake-Eyes custom figure I've been helping Spigou make (click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized card): Obviously, this filecard is unrelated to the ones I've been making for the Filecard Album, it's more of a recreation of the 2006 "Classified" filecard and it's based on the original Marvel Comics continuity (with some added detail courtesy of myself). To view the full-body image and card art, check out this thread I started in the Fan Art section: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...tml#post753509 Last edited by zuludelta; 05-22-2009 at 09:29 PM.. |

That's awesome Zulu. Can't wait to see how it comes out.
I love how you made it look like someone crossed out certain parts with a marker, like someone secretly walked in and "destroyed" the file. Nice touch.
