Just read the Phantom part in his filecard. Trying to think of reasons why a Fighter Pilot would be named Payload. Was a fighter pilot but got shot down and wounded and couldn't fly again, so moved into being a crew chief on the C-130s and eventually the Air Force realized he was being wasted there so moved him into officer role and eventually the Joe team? Edit: Could still make him an astronaut. He went from Phantoms to being an astronaut and then onto the Joe team to oversee the Joe Air Force. Because of his time as a combat pilot and his time as an astronaut and other classified things he was the perfect fit to run the Joe Air Force.

I think Payload will look good in the Delta-6 suits from ROC. They work as a flight suit in my opinion. I plan on using Ripcord as my new Rampage. but Duke has the same armor so I can use him for Payload now. I wasn't planning on buying him till you said it.

So what do you guys think the problem with Joe in Space was? I mean, Hasbro really tried to make it work with the Defiant, and the Crusader, and Star Brigade...
Don't get me wrong, it didn't really interest me either... but I'm not even into Star Wars or Star Trek. A lot of boys do like SciFi, though. Why didn't that work? On another matter, Troynos, as a full Colonel, it wouldn't really matter what Payload used to fly... he flies a desk now.

I don't know what the problem of "Joe in space" really was besides the fact that it was a limited operation. How many times does Joe really need to go into space and deal with satellite issues? And that whole "B.A.T.S. on the moon" comic arc, it doesn't exist. For a space toy, you needed aliens. You needed to fly from planet to planet. Not just launch the rocket, battle Cobra over the satellite, and go back home. It just didn't work as a concept. It was limited and didn't warrant it's own "line".

It was limited and didn't warrant it's own "line". I liked that the Joes had something in place to deal with space issues - I used to send them up to shoot down recon satellites and act as an interception platform for missiles (orbital dynamics not being my strong point at that age), and I came up with all kinds of missions for them up there. It makes a lot less sense now, of course, but at the time I thought it was great. Of course, I also got out before the sub-lines - I had the Defiant, Payload, Countdown, the Stellar Stiletto, the STAR-Viper and T.A.R.G.A.T., and that was it.

The Stilleto can still work. I see it as a fighter that goes to sub-orbit (or whatever level) and skims the earth to get around to it's target faster.

I love the Stilleto I won a few in lots so I have 4 or 5 now. I think Star Vipers are great, but Astro-Vipers are just ridiculous. I use the Stilleto just like Troynos said. I never got the defiant or the crusader. I have a payload though who I should use the head for a better custom. I did get all the Star Brigade stuff, Well most of it. I don't even touch it. I even have the Walker thing which is pretty cool as a toy, but unless my Joes battle the AT-AT they stay out of Space.
I use Astro-Vipers as Cobra Scientist up in the Himilayas with Dr. Mindbender, guarded by the 4 different levels of ninjas (Ninja Vipers, Red Ninjas, Night Creepers and then the named Ninjas) and the Arctic Snow Serpents, and Shadowloo and Mortal Combat guys. This is the box I barely ope |
