It could also be Larry Hama referencing the rumours back in the day (1960s/1970s) that Bryn Mawr was used as a "cover" by the CIA for their recruitment/research programs. Donald W. MacKinnon, a psychology professor at Bryn Mawr during the 1960s and 1970s, was a former OSS (the predecessor of the CIA) behavioral sciences research scientist (he's most notorious for his controversial -- and pretty much presently widely discredited -- theories on personality assessment), and it raised a lot of questions at the time about what it was exactly he was doing at an institution like Bryn Mawr (not exactly a place you expect to find a person with MacKinnon''s background).

I think it was a somewhat popular "urban legend" (which may or may not be rooted in some element of truth) back in the day but pretty much lost traction with the public's consciousness over time. Truth to tell, the only reason I'm even remotely familiar with MacKinnon's work is because we briefly talked about him in a psychopharmacology class I took years ago... his theories were used as an example of obsolete and outmoded biased thinking in the social sciences (he seemed to have an axe to grind against engineering/math types).

Random: I got Inside Delta Force and Kill Bin Laden from the library this week. Looking forward to reading both of those.
Zulu, I'm not sure if I've mentioned it, since you did most of the project while I wasn't posting much, but I love what you're doing. Very cool idea.

I've updated Zap (wasn't totally happy with the prior version... definitely like the more dynamic pose on this latest edition):
I've also updated his filecard, and incorporated some of the corrections and suggestions from this thread regarding Flint's, Spirit's, Bazooka's, and Chuckles' filecards. Quote:

Zulu, I can't wait to see what you've done. I think your file card project is one of the most ambitious I've seen for constructing a modernized, realistic Joeverse. Your art is great, and I appreciate you sharing it with us all.

Hrmm. I liked the prior Zap, but this one is equally awesome. I am especially fond of the new helmet and the younger physique and face. Fantastic work.

I need to start working on some new characters though instead of re-doing the ones I've already finished... I'm behind at least a couple of weeks with my self-imposed deadline: The original plan was to finish the 1982 to 1988 characters by the end of May, and then just add the rest (the 1989 and 1990 characters) in between making the vehicle blueprints, organizational diagrams, and writing the articles to go along with the images and have everything done sometime mid-June (and then I'd start all over again with Cobra and maybe, just maybe, my take on Action Force). |

I was kind of partial to the last one as well cause he look older and tougher. More of the Sgt. "ZAP" Melendez. Not that this update is not good, he's great.

I like the new Zap. I think he looked better older, but I like the look of this one (outfit and gear) better.
I'm disappointed. You guys didn't see the special vehicle I put in the parking lot outside the Engineer's Building.

Has anyone else seen this new Barrel Roll figure that's on ebay right now? The one from RoC? It's basically a repaint of resolute Duke, but I like it. It's really cool. I'm glad they're bringing us a new Barrel Roll.
