pararescue: Well, when i look at the official usaf pararescue insignia, it's an angel holding the world. Their motto is "so others may live". What about code name: "angel" or "wings" ? Their unofficial logo is a footprint and their called "pj's", so what about code name "big foot" or "pj" ?

Oliver,
My response for your Marine Maybes: Mace: reference to tripoli i think is more of a Hasbro copy editor trying to make the character sound cool. hence the reference to colordo. This could just as easily refernece the air force academy or being a police officer in colordo. Nothing in there to solidify Jarheadedness. Bullhorn: Being an instructor at quantico doesn't necessarily make him a Marine. SEAL I believe have to do ranger school after BUDs and SF go to SEAL school to get their water training same with Marine Force recon...I might be wrong. So it is safe to say that a top rated instructor can get tapped to cadre at any base offering any type of course. At fort Sam Houston we shared some training lanes with the Air Force and there were air force cadres there. Blast-off & Mirage: I totally ignore the Mega Marines personally. I view the line as an Epic Fail. I tend to mix the mutants with the rest of mindbender's experiments. I fell the same about Valor v Venom. I pick and choose the good parts (if any) for my Joeverse. Mirage, I have used him as a marine in the past...but only because I wanted more marines. But nothing there really say he couldn't be if you wanted. Blast-off: I have placed him with my firefighter unit...which doubles as a flamethrower unit attachable to my infantry company when applicable. I make him Army...same reason as Clutch was listed as mega marines but is army. However, when it comes to combined training, that does happen in certain circumstances. However, there are schools where that does not happen. For example, No body but SEALs teaches the BUDs school. Only Army Ranger teach at Ranger School. And only Marine Scout Snipers teach at the Marine Scout Sniper school at Quantico. If Bull Horn was an instructor there, then he's a Marine. With Mace, it's certainly less clear. However, being born in Denver, Colorado is certainly not any evidence for membership in the Air Force, and the character certainly has nothing to do with the Air Force Academy: He's Enlisted! You might as well argue that he's with the Army because of Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs - except Ft. Carson has nothing to do with Intelligence or undercover work. The file card also makes no mention of any affiliation with the Police - he could have been Military Intelligence the whole time. "The shores of Tripoli" is a direct quote from the Marine Corps Hymn. No Policeman would use that. No Army soldier or Air Force personnel would use that phrase. And there are no Intelligence personnel from the Navy or Marine Corps in G.I. Joe... he seems to fill a needed role. That one line is all the evidence or indication of branch affiliation that we're given. It's not much; it's a little vague. But it's the best thing we've got. If you choose to completely disregard the "Mega Marines" that's fine. I don't use that sub-team either. However, given the origin of both Mirage and Blast-off as members of that group, this is one of the few clues we have about their branch affiliation. If they were like Clutch, and just two old characters who got put into a sub-team for no good reason, I would completely agree with you. However, these two character debuted as part of the Mega Marines... that sub-team is tied to their origin and should not be ignored. It's not conclusive: Clutch offers very valid mitigating evidence. However, I just see Clutch as the exception rather than the rule, because of the name of the team - MEGA MARINES - and the fact that Gung-Ho is the leader.

I like Angel for a female PJ. She'd have to be pretty tough to be the only female PJ, the Joe team would snatch her up in a heartbeat.
I'm liking Medivac for the PJ. Wildman for Force Recon? The Joes have a serious lack of communications officers. How about Windtalker for the newest?

How about Eagle? When I got my Ver 2 Hawk back in the day my version 1 was still a totally great figure. So since they no longer looked alike I renamed him Eagle. He serves as my chief intelligence officer, and I've done the same with my 25th figures. I had a Raven custom too, but he was just my Version 1 Slipstream.
The only Problem I see with Eagle is that it's SO American. Now, don't get me wrong, just hear me out. I love America as much as anybody. Eagles are our National Bird - way more important than Hawks. So if you have a character named "Eagle", shouldn't that character outrank Gen. Hawk? I think President Reagan's Secret Service code name was Eagle, as in "The Eagle has landed." If you had a character named "Eagle", he would have to really be something. At least a full Bird Colonel, and some kind of war fighter. Along the lines of bird names, I also thought of "Talon". And for a female intelligence operative, how about "Mockingbird"?

I know, I know you're going to mention that Lady Jaye and Scarlett are Rangers... well, not in my Joeverse. It's unrealistic, and is against the regulations. It's just a pet peeve of mine. Wildman? After all those great Marine inspired names I offered you? I'm hurt ;) j/k

Hey Oliverbox,
I have a Custom (basically just an extra VvV Duke) I renamed Eagle who is a 3rd generation Green Beret. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts and he is from Waveland MS!!! I still have to send my file to you of my customs where they are mostly from Southern states....for some reason my computer wouldn't let me attach. |

I'm going to TRU today to try and find that set. I can't wait. More Steel Brigade is AWESOME! Thanks for the heads up. I would also like to see that list of all the Marine Code names you've come up with.

Eagle is a great name, I just always figured, "If this guy's name is 'Eagle' then why does a guy named "Hawk" out rank him?" However, I have been giving it some thought. Super Trooper is sort of the "Captain America" of G.I. Joe. He's got a big shiny shield. He's an amazingly highly trained Commando... bit of a Public Relations/Recruiting image. He really needs a new Code Name. The figure is fine. His qualifications are excellent. He's an officer - which we need more of! If they renamed Super Trooper and called him "Eagle" I would be in favor of that. I think that would be a good move. He's a character with the qualifications and image to back a name like that up. He could be "Eagle". In fact, I may change his code name to "Eagle" in my Joeverse. Thanks for the idea guys.

Mockingbird is a great counter-intelligence officer's name.
Talon and Eagle work good. I see Talon as more of a Cobra Operative's name. Most of those Marine names would work for the Marine Officer the Joes badly need. I was looking for something more Force Recon specific. Raider would work pretty good. Eagle Eye is a great sniper name. So's Hawkeye, Bullseye. Double Tap is an assassination term, so not sure it would work for a Joe sniper.
