The vehicle was supposed to be a IAV Stryker, I'll have to see if can find a more accurate one.
The motor pool will be above and below ground. The above ground building is 120'x300'. That's where the majority of the repair/maintenance work will be done, and some storage. Storage will mostly be below ground. IDW's PIT is huge and is probably closer to what a real underground base would actually have to look like and be sized. Marvel & DDP never showed it right. The Rock, from America's Elite, was good sized and probably scaled right. The Marvel PITs were way to small. I'll be putting vehicles everywhere, to show scale and to show activity. I have to take another look at my runway. I have a C-130 on it now and the thing is tiny. But from my research I have the runway sized correctly. It's like 300 feet wide, the C-130 only has a 134' wingspan. Because of the size of the compound, there's a "base fleet" of vehicles to get around, hummers and atvs and those golf-cart-like quad utility vehicles. I settled on Fort Hama, aka "The Compound".

Looks more like a LAV-25 to me, although they do have similar profiles:
LAV-25 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or HissTank.com - G.I. Joe - tkjaer21's Album: 1:18 Scale Everything Modern - Picture Problem with using stuff that other people have modeled, won't always be accurate. It's still cool looking, so I'll try and find a more accurate one but others I had seen didn't look as complete so...

I think there is a 6 wheeled model of the LAV25 called the Cougar made by the same company. I don't think the Stryker has a Turret even with the heavy Cannon Versions. I now remember someone bringing up the debate over the Stryker and why it was even neccessary when the military already had APCs like the LAV25 which were as good. Still, Now that we're talking about Strykers, I wonder why they haven't made a 1:18 scale version yet?

I was really hoping to find a more traditional APC like the Joes one, but no luck so far.
No one's modeled any Joe toys yet. There is a model called a Skyhawk and it's 80% accurate, but it's someone's interpretation of the Skyhawk. Haven't looked into tanks yet. I don't know what's the most modern tank being used right now?

So I have 2 variations on the Hummer, the "Stryker", a Blackhawk, a AH-1 Cobra, and I'll throw a tank in there somewhere. I also will have a couple ATVs and a Quad-Utility vehicle. There will be a C-130 and a couple of the Jets shown outside the hangers.
So what else should I show "out and about" the compound? Most of the vehicles would be in the motor pool and not cruising around the grounds. The Mission-Vehicles will be in the motor pool and hangers. The Base-Vehicles will be what are seen in parking lots and such. Base-Fleet would be: -MP vehicles for patrol and commuting -commuting vehicles for moving around the base -utility vehicles

Also, I've finalized the outline of organization for the Joe team. It took an obssesive fascination with the intricacies of unit structure, but I think I've managed to come up with a fairly plausible way for a small battalion-sized (~300 personnel) rapid deployment unit to be organized, while still incorporating disparate air and ground combat assets as well as staffing, administrative, and logistics personnel. I've extended the roster to include all the Joes from 1982 to 1990, with the exception of Battleforce 2000, Sgt. Slaughter, Salvo (just because I don't like the character), The Fridge, and two of the three Renegades. As for the "unnamed" Joes on the roster, just think of them as disposable greenshirts, the guys who die every now and then on Joe missions. To view the outline (it's in PDF format), click on the following link to download the document from sendspace (will open a new tab or window; the download link should appear on the bottom of the page): Modern GI Joe team outline of organization I've tried to lay out the organization as cleanly and clearly as I could, although the final version, of course, will have a bong-load of diagrams and articles to describe each element's and its component parts' functions and duties. Would love to hear your opinions. Last edited by zuludelta; 05-08-2009 at 05:36 PM.. |

I think a bunch of HMMWVs and some M-Gator utility vehicles would be appropriate for puttering around the base.
