I'll probably just do one section of the wall and give a description. Do like a 100' section with a guardhouse, just to people will get the idea of what surrounds the whole compound.
Still needing a good name. Since Gen. Flagg jr is base commander, Fort Flagg doesn't work... Army and Marine bases are "Fort Something" and Airforce is "Something AFB". Fort Freedom or Fort Independance is just too corny. Fort Something, nicknamed "The Compound". The jail building will be called "The Coffin", the underground portion will be "The PIT". So need nicknames for the main building and the airfield complex.

Got an AA emplacement off Sketch-Up model's site, 3D Warehouse. Like the gun, it fits in good. Not sure I like the location though.

On a side note, after throughly looking over the original Zandar figure's design, it struck me as interesting how much those lightning bolts on his chest look like the insignia of the infamous Schutzstaffel (the dreaded Nazi "SS"). Some hidden fascist/white supremacist undertones to the character, perhaps? Quote:
Zulu,
Zandar looks better. What rank is it that he gets? Zartan looks a lot more realistic. Zarana looks spot on and as ugly as I thought she would be. They made her much hotter in Devil's Due. Wasn't she Cobra Commander's Girlfriend in the later Cartoons of the late 80's? OF-6 Commander (Cobra Commander) OF-5 Lieutenant Commander (Destro) OF-4 Major (Major Bludd, Fred I, ceiling rank for all Viper programs) OF-3 Captain (Baroness, Zartan, Wild Weasel, Tomax, Xamot, Dr. Mindbender, Crystal Ball, Scrap-Iron, Dr. Venom, Copperhead) OF-2 Lieutenant (Storm-Shadow, Firefly, Big Boa, Croc Master) OF-1 Sub-Lieutenant (Zarana, minimum rank requirement for entry into Cobra Officer and Crimson Guard Program) OR-9 Chief Specialist (Zandar) OR-8 Specialist 1st class (Buzzer) OR-7 Specialist 2nd class (Ripper, Torch) OR-6 Specialist 3rd class (Monkeywrench, Thrasher, Zanzibar, minimum rank requirement for entry into Snow Serpent, Tele-Viper, Techno-Viper, Medi-Viper, and Cyber-Viper programs) OR-5 Trooper 1st class (ceiling rank for Cobra Troopers, minimum rank requirement for entry into Eel and Lamprey program) OR-4 Trooper 2nd class (Road-Pig) OR-3 Trooper 3rd class (minimum rank requirement for entry into basic Viper program) OR-2 Trooper Apprentice OR-1 Trooper Basic (entry-level rank for service in Cobra) As for Zarana... yeah, I was trying to make her look plain or even unattractive, basically somebody whose features would be unremarkable (pink hair notwithstanding). Besides, in my mind, Baroness is the foxy Cobra. Quote:

So need nicknames for the main building and the airfield complex. Maybe you can call it Fort Hama, maybe call the main building Trimpe Hall and the airstrip could be Wagner Airstrip... basically anything that pays homage to the definitive GI Joe creative teams. Looks good. You might want to put the emplacement on or near the installation's highest vertical point, to maximize range and traverse. Maybe pair it with some radar reflector dish (having them physically co-located may not be the best design tactically, but it might look better in a "fantasy military" sense than having them distinct and separate). Troynos - Awesome job so far on your base.
Zuludelta - Again good job on your perspective of the Joes & Cobras. Filecards and all. I look forward to what each of you come up with next. |

I just used the standard NATO code rank designation system for Zandar. NATO's OR-9 is basically equivalent to the US Department of Defense's E-9 (Sgt. Major, Chief Master Sgt. or Master Chief Petty Officer in the US Army/Marines, Air Force, and Navy, respectively). Chief Specialist, Zandar's rank, is just a position I made up in the system I designed for Cobra, which pretty much boils down to the following (examples in parentheses):
OF-6 Commander (Cobra Commander) OF-5 Lieutenant Commander (Destro) OF-4 Major (Major Bludd, Fred I, ceiling rank for all Viper programs) OF-3 Captain (Baroness, Zartan, Wild Weasel, Tomax, Xamot, Dr. Mindbender, Crystal Ball, Scrap-Iron, Dr. Venom, Copperhead) OF-2 Lieutenant (Storm-Shadow, Firefly, Big Boa, Croc Master) OF-1 Sub-Lieutenant (Zarana, minimum rank requirement for entry into Cobra Officer and Crimson Guard Program) OR-9 Chief Specialist (Zandar) OR-8 Specialist 1st class (Buzzer) OR-7 Specialist 2nd class (Ripper, Torch) OR-6 Specialist 3rd class (Monkeywrench, Thrasher, Zanzibar, minimum rank requirement for entry into Snow Serpent, Tele-Viper, Techno-Viper, Medi-Viper, and Cyber-Viper programs) OR-5 Trooper 1st class (ceiling rank for Cobra Troopers, minimum rank requirement for entry into Eel and Lamprey program) OR-4 Trooper 2nd class (Road-Pig) OR-3 Trooper 3rd class (minimum rank requirement for entry into basic Viper program) OR-2 Trooper Apprentice OR-1 Trooper Basic (entry-level rank for service in Cobra) |

I like the Cobra command structure you have set up Zulu. Poor Road Pig, lol. I like how you have highest ranks can achieve and min. ranks for different "jobs".
I'd put Zarana more towards plain then anything. She's a con-woman, and being ugly puts her at an automatic disadvantage. Of course it also makes people think they can take advantage of her easier, so I guess it can work in her favor.

I actually have a bit more of fun working out how Cobra could conceivably work, since I can allow my imagination a bit more free reign (I don't have to adhere to current US military rank and unit structure, unlike with GI Joe). |

Zulu- I find some of your ranks a little surprising but appreciate all the time and effort you've put into this. If i were going to set this up for my Cobras it would probably be more like this- Commander in Chief- CC Generals- Destro, Baroness, Twins Colonels- SS, Zartan Majors- Bludd, Firefly, Scrap Iron Captains- Mindbender, Zandar, Zarana Lts- Drednoks, all other officers; blue shirt, python patrol, etc Warrants- wild weasel, copperhead |

Fort Hama, aka The Compound. There will be more emplacements at various parts. Not sure if want them sitting on a big ol' mass of concrete or on a steel frame.
