Actually, Sketch-Up is what I'm using.
I was hoping to be able to use AutoCAD Revit, so I could do the 3D model and the 2D (flat) floor plans at the same time. But I don't have Revit at home and have been unable to get it yet thru uhm... yeah.. ;P So I'll use Sketch-Up for the 3D and see what I can come up with later to do the floor plans. I'm hoping that maybe someone actually uploaded Joe vehicles into the Sketch-Up library for modeling, if not I'm sure I can find some military vehicles to use for atmosphere.

That sounds Awesome Troynos. Just Do it!
You know although we could use more, I've always appreciated the fact we received one African American every year, and we usually got one other ethnic group represented as well. Hasbro obviously made an effort to include as many Americans as they could. At least some of the last names seems to read from one heritage or another. No real Muslim characters, until now with Breaker, which I think is a good thing, but a unnecessary waist of an already established character. I always wonder about the cartoons when they had guys with real thick accents. Was that more identifiable for some kids or it just ruin it for them. For Instance, I'm half Puerto-Rican so Zap sounded real to me. I suppose Wild-Bill sounds just like someone's Uncle in Texas. But Blowtorch sounded like he definitely wasn't born in Tampa, but did the heavy Accent turn off kids who were Irish heritage? Maybe the Yellow did. Or does it make him more approachable? I always liked Blowtorch as a kid. Beachhead is utterly Southern, as is Cross-Country. They didn't give too many guys over the top accents. I'm just wondering how people identified with the characters they liked? I tended to also identify guys from my State so growing up in Michigan, and then later in Virginia I sort of lucked out with pretty good characters. Imagine being from Rhode Island there must be someone from every exit. Of course being from Delaware would really be a bummer. But the Marines were my favorites, because my father and grandfather were Marines, yet I've never been to Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska or South Carolina. |

So here's the basic building. The 1 story on the left is the motor pool, middle building is the enlisted barracks, part on the right is the officer's barracks. First floor is all the non-bunk stuff: cafeteria, infirmary (which extends onto the 2nd floor as well), fitness center (pool, weights, lockers, in-door track) and all that kind of stuff. Barracks levels have toilet facilities, lounges. Officers have 20x20 rooms with 1 per room and their own facilities.
And yes, you enter the motor pool by going around back and into the courtyard. It's a one vehicle access at a time, controled access. Since the motor pool garage door is the least controlable entry, it's not the easiest one to get to. I got the idea from what they do at the National Guard Armory down the street from where I work when the threat level goes up. They put these jersey barriers in the way, so that cars have to slalom around them to get in. Prevents a bomber from speeding up and just driving straight thru. No details. This is just a massing model, used to get the basic shape. I'll start adding details tomorrow. Front: Rear: Side: Side:

Currently I can "sleep" 384 enlisted and 150 officers.

I tended to identify with the Asian-Austronesian Joes and Cobras (I was born and spent my childhood in the Philippines, my paternal grandfather's family is from Fujian province in mainland China). I also had a bias for the Navy guys since I have an uncle who used to serve in the United States Navy (he's a liaison for USSOCOM now). This made Torpedo a no-brainer as my favourite, since he had elements of all three: he's Austronesian (being native Hawaiian), he has ties to both Philippine and Chinese culture (he's an expert in the use of the bali song -- the Philippine butterfly knife -- and he's a wushu practitioner), and he's in the Navy. Three for three. |

Nice, is that a courtyard? Will there be defensive points, like artillery emplacements, or the guard towers, the Checkpoint, Whirlwinds, FLAKs, LAWs, or Missle Systems? I Guess you got to put a flag, Radar, and antenna. (I'm just thinking about all those things that came on the HQ playset) Landing Pad. Do you ever get those issues where they layed out the blueprints for the Pit and the Pitt II with all the Communications centers, and Barracks, and weight rooms?

Three for three. I wonder why they never attempted to do a filipino character due to the fact that there is that past history with the Philipines. I've met a lot of guys from the Philipines who were in the service. A ton. I want more Spanish guys, More Marines, more American Indians, more Islanders, and more German-Americans, from the State of Virginia or Michigan or Puerto-Rico. Southern Accent OK, but a midwestern Accent is kind of Corny. If they all talk like Gung-ho from Resolute even better. I'm planning on doing Zartan and his siblings, and possibly the three original Dreadnoks before I shift my focus back on finishing up the Joes. |

The problem is that won't be able to see the PITT, the underground elements (command center, armory, mission briefing, etc..). I'll figure something out for that. It's working out the logistics and controling security that is kind of "fun". How do the vending machines get stocked? You're not going to want a guy living on the 5th floor to have to go all the way down to the 1st floor cafeteria for a midnight snack, and they guy won't want to go thru all the security to get there. But who stocks those vending machines? It was one thing that has never been shown in any of the comics. How do the Joes in the PITs get their supplies? Even office supplies. So the Courtyard serves multiple purposes. It's vehicle access to the motor pool and the walls limit the amount of traffic. To get to the motor pool you're going to have to enter the hole in the walls (which will be gated) and then turn right. That'll help prevent someone from ramming their way in. The kitchen/cafeteria will be on the 1st level and be against that wall so the access to the stock rooms will be thru the corridor. So I have to think thru how security will be. All outside access will be thru multiple vestibule doors. So to get into the building from one of the roof patrol points, you have to go thru an "doghouse" built off the main building, once thru that security door you're in a sealed room and need to get thru another security door before into the main building. I'm cheating alot and not getting involved in the mechanical, electrical and plumbing situations. So I won't be showing electrical rooms and mechanical ducts and that kind of stuff. I don't even want to think about how security would be controled thru those points. There will be a fuel depot on site, for ground and air. The tanks will be underground. I worked on an airplane fuel depot once, the tanks for that were huge. These will be underground for protection with a pump building. Antennas, and radar dishs.. Not sure how I want to do those yet. I'm thinking making them off the main building. There will be a landing pad on the building itself, planning on putting on motor pool roof. The airstrip will be the main air take-off/landing point. I need a good name for it as well.
