OK, last post and then I'm turning in for the night...
I've always thought a great name for an Intelligence Officer would be "Owl". Other birds of prey have worked well: Hawk, Falcon. I also think "Condor" would work well, sort of in honor of that C.I.A. movie with Robert Redford, "Three Days of the Condor". Didn't DDP have a character named "Raven" in it's WW3 storyline? Hawk and Falcon have both been officers, so it seems fitting that any Joe named after a bird of prey should be an officer of some kind. Sometimes it seems hard to think of good code names, but there are tons of animal names that haven't been touched, and they've used animal names in the UK version of G.I. Joe, Action Force, for years.

There is a foreign figure (of Airborne V1, ) named Condor. He has a slight color variation, but basicly the same colors. & yes, Raven is the code name of Daina of the OKTOBER GUARD, wheb she became a Joe member.

I thought Daina's code name was Vorona?

Owl is a good name for an intelligence operative.
Peregrine would make a good female intel operative. I'm trying to come up with good names for Force Recon and Pararescue. Force Recon would be perfect for Long Range, but that name has been used to many times already.

The 4 questionable Joes that I include are: Blast-off, Mirage, Mace, and Bull Horn.
The Joes we're certain are Marines are: Gung-Ho, Leatherneck, Sgt. Slaughter, Mainframe, and Hollow Point. The question is, if you guys would be kind enough to go to yojoe.com and review the file cards and register your opinions on the 4 questionable cases: are they Marines or not? Blast-Off: One of the ones that joined the Joes with no formal military training. I'd have to say "no" to him being a Marine. Bull Horn: Former hand-to-hand instructor from Quantico. Still pretty hard to tell, stupid filecards. I'd say he's a maybe, I'm leaning towards him being a Marine. Mace: No Mirage: Not much to say what, just "trained by Roadblock" and weapons expert. I'd lean towards yes. I'm working on a list by branch of the Joes, up to C.

They make their debut as Joes in the "Mega Marines". Now, it is certainly true that some file cards for certain Joes seem to indicate that the Joe in question came from some obscure background and suddenly became a Joe. Recoil would be such a Joe; his file card lists him as having previously been a weight lifter and marathon runner. However, by virtue of Recoil being a L.R.R.P., we have to assume that those were hobbies and he was, in fact, a member of the Army and had gone through all the training necessary to be a L.R.R.P. (Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, HALO, etc). Consequently, his job description sort of forces us to recognize his qualifications and branch affiliation as taken for granted. He must be an Army Airborne Ranger - the Joes had to come from one of the service branches, so Recoil came from the Army. In the case of Mirage and Blast-off, their service branches are not given or explained in their file cards. However, by virtue of the fact that they debuted as "Mega Marines" and there is nothing in their file cards to preclude their affiliation with the Marine Corps as the branch from which they were selected for G.I. Joe, it seems the most logical choice that these guys are U.S. Marines. So, Blast-off was the best firefighter in Missouri and he joined the Marines - they have fire fighters in the military - and was selected because of his skills and courage for the G.I. Joe team... why else would he be a "Mega Marine"? Why else would Mirage be one? Mace's file card specifically mentions "to the shores of Tripoli", a line from the Marine Corps Batt4el Hymn. It's not a common phrase among members from other branches because it specifically references the Marines' battles with the Barberry Pirates. There is no mitigating evidence to prevent Mace from being listed as a Marine. No other branch is listed in the file card. He's an intelligence operative, and the Marine Corps has a very fine and diligent Intelligence section: anybody remember LTC. Oliver North USMC? There seems to be no issue at all with understanding Mace to be a member of the USMC. In fact, the evidence we have would lead one in that direction. Bull-Horn was trained at Quantico... that's a bit of question mark because Quantico, Virgina is home to the Marine Corps and the F.B.I. Those seem to be the two choices. However, every other federal agent in G.I. Joe is an officer. Bullet-Proof comes from the U.S. Marshals and is a Major (O-4). Sure-Fire is a former F.B.I. Agent, and he's a LTC (O-5). It rather begs the question: If Bull Horn were trained as an F.B.I. Agent, why isn't he an officer? Rather, with a rank of E-4, it seems evident that Bull Horn is a Marine. He's a sharpshooter... the Marine's Scout/Sniper School is at Quanitco. He's a SWAT negotiator... the Marines have excellent SWAT/HRT capabilities.

I think DDP used the name "Raven" as the DEEP cover operative in WW3. The one they did so much retconning with... anybody else remember this? I never refer to Diana as anything but "Diana".

Hey Oliver, check out the novel The Last Patriot by Brad Thor, it stars Scot Harvath (who I reference in that other thread of mine) and also has alot dealing with the origins of the Marine Corps and Tripoli.

Daina has only ever been Daina or Vorona (the code-name she has when introduced as a Joe and Falcon calls her that during WW3).

What did you think of my argument for whether or not the questionable Joes are Marines?
