He's actually the only post-1989 character I'm including in the reference bible (and possibly Topside). I always liked the idea of the Joes having a liaison/adviser from what's arguably the world's premiere Spec-Ops unit. I'm thinking of making him and Back-Stop as NATO observers or somesuch (yeah, in my Joeverse, Back-Stop is with the Canadian Forces as a member of JTF2, which is basically the Canadian version of the SAS).
Alternatively, I've toyed with the idea of making a separate "Action Force" team designed along the lines of Tom Clancy's fictional Rainbow Six NATO joint counterterrorist unit, composed of American and non-American special operators. The team's composition would include updated versions of Big Ben (United Kingdom), Back-Stop (Canada), Taurus (Turkey), Daina (Czech Republic), Schrage (Germany), plus an American Joe who would thematically fit in with an international counter-terrorist team (Super Trooper? Claymore?). |

It's not technically desert camo... the patterns I've been using on many of the Army Joes is called digital ACU and is the current standard camo pattern for the Army... according to the engineers at the Army's Natick Soldier Systems Center (the guys in charge of developing these things), it's a universal camo pattern that obviates the need for separate camo patterns for desert, woodland, and urban environments. The boots as well are in earth tones, as the current Army policy for footwear colour is moving away from black and more towards subdued, desaturated hues. Black clothes and footwear show up more readily on the IR spectrum, apparently (that's also why the ACU camo pattern doesnt have any black on it, unlike the old woodland patterns the Army has used since at least the Vietnam War).

I've often toyed with the idea of including some of the Action Force guys, but the figures are too old school, but the backgrounds for some of the characters are usable to some degree. Some just don't work at all. Jammer is one that could work, since I can just use an extra Stalker. Some of the SAS guys I want to include, but I just have not come up with a good look for any and I can't paint. Plus like Skip, and Jammer, and the others that made up the Z-Force have red berets, so if I'm painting red Berets I might as well come up with a Combat Controller. This is one guys set of custom File cards you could use for inspiration if you wanted to add any additional guys to your Action Force team. He did a good job of including just about anyone from Action Force. FOZZIE |

Today on Ebay I won Sky Patrol member: Drop Zone. I had one from my childhood that is still in very reasonable condition, but this one I'm going to use for customizing. Since he's one of the few legitimate Green Berets, I'm going to give him a uniform similar to that of my custom Claymore. Given his background and training, I may find more uses for him that just Sky Patrol. Plus I think he has one of the coolest code names of all time.
So let me ask you guys, if you were going to use Drop Zone as an independent soldier in your Joeverse... how would you use him. He's basically an 18B (Special Forces Weapons Sergeant). Would you use him in another team?

Here's a question/idea I had based on a conversation we had the other day about Flint with the SAS...
Let's say that G.I. Joe has a pretty good working relationship with the SAS, as the Marvel run and Big Ben would lead us to believe. If that's the case, which Joes besides Flint would stand a chance of being able to go over to train with the SAS? The exchange program that Charles Beckwith participated in seemed to only be for Officers, but that was back in the early 60's. Which Joes would be tough enough to make it through SAS Selection and Training... which is arguably tougher than Delta's. I mean, if Big Ben came to work with the Joes, it's conceivable - even likely - that one or two Joes were sent to work/train with the SAS. I think Flint is the most likely candidate, but there are probably a few others... Rapid Fire (I think his last name is "London") Super Trooper Claymore Falcon Low-Light A very likely candidate would be Stalker - let's say for a minute that Stalker never went to the Special Forces Q-Course at Ft. Bragg. What if, instead of going for his Green Beret, he requested to go after a Khaki Beret across the pond? I'm just saying, all his qualifications would probably make him an excellent choice for any Special Operations Force, and Stalker likes a challenge.

While I'm at it, how about a pure file card question/discussion. You know, just to try and keep our thread on track ;)
What was the best file card of all? The most well written? The most accurate information? The funniest? The most believable? I'm actually surprised that in 491 pages, we haven't discussed this previously.

Troynos has mentioned Big Ben a lot lately, and with all the stuff on Delta I've read recently, I've developed a lot bigger interest in the SAS. I really wish they would do a couple of things...
1. Release a version of Big Ben with a khaki beret 2. Release a more military/tactical version of Skymate with khaki beret 3. Release new SAS (UK and/or Australian) characters 4. Release new characters from the UK SBS & SRR 5. While we're at it, why hasn't there ever been a character from GSG-9? Seriously. Those guys are awesome. 6. Also, we've had representatives from other U.S. Government agencies. We need some from DIA and Secret Service... and while we're at it, why not have one who is officially from CIA. 7. The UK's MI6/5 would be awesome as well.
