Some new images (click on the pictures to read the filecards):
notes: Barbecue was redesigned as a Navy Damage Controlman (that's basically a shipboard firefighter/all-around hazard protection & emergency services expert) cross-trained in navy law enforcement and VBSS tactics. His Damage Controlman background makes him a natural for tactical breaching duties. I waffled a bit on Spirit's design. I wanted to get away from the ethnic stereotype of the original figure, but I still wanted him to be recognizable. I basically kept the hues of the original figure and the long hair (hey, if USSOCOM operators can grow unkempt ZZ Top-like beards, I figure a guy like Spirit can grow his hair out if he wants to). Got rid of the breechcloth, and replaced the tasseled pants, the head band, the buckskin boots, as well as the powder blue Civil War-era Union Army shirt with more plausible modern analogs in similar colours. Also, here are updated filecards to go with some of the earlier images I posted in this thread (before I started posting pics that linked to filecards): Airtight Dusty Snow-Job Beach Head EDIT: I just noticed I'm about a third of the way through with the personnel images I'm making for the GI Joe reference bible. At this rate, I'll pobably be finished with them by the end of May. Then I can finally start on Cobra. Last edited by zuludelta; 04-17-2009 at 06:58 PM.. |

Zuludelta, I think you've been snooping in my head again. i just finished a book on Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers, and it was talking about Damage Controlmen. I was thinking at the time that it was a perfect way to use Barbecue. And I'm glad to hear that you're still seeing Lifeline as a PJ.

Zulu, BBQ kicks major ass. I love the VBSS/Damage Controlman change. That's what I ended up doing with him as well, made him VBSS. I think that's the perfect place to put him and keep him a firefighter.
BTW, Resolute rocks.

I've been racking my brain for a use for Barbecue's thematic opposite though: Blowtorch. I'm already sure I won't be using him as a flamethrower guy since nobody uses flamethrowers in combat anymore (or at least no one openly admits to still using them... I think using one against enemy combatants these days will earn one a trip to the International War Crimes Tribunal) but I just can't see the Joe team needing a full-time welder/steelworker (the closest thing to the flamethrower job, at least in terms of visual elements and theme, in today's military that I can think of). I guess a welder would be useful as a breacher, but I've already got Barbecue for that job. Last edited by zuludelta; 04-18-2009 at 02:03 AM.. |

I'm resisting the urge to watch Resolute... I want to watch it in full on the 24th on Teletoon (Canada's version of the Cartoon Network), and not in the 5 minute snippets they're portioning out, but it's going to be hard not breaking down and peeking at them between now and then.

Glad you like what I've done with Barbecue. I was worried that he might be too much of a departure from the original.
