It also gives me an excuse to come up with ridiculously long-winded and forced acronyms, something Department of Defense designers seem to be obsessed with... remember, these are the guys who came up with the cheesily-named PHASR (Personnel Halting and Stimulation Response rifle). For example, in my mind, MAULER would stand for "Mobile Armored Utility: Landmine Explosion-Resistant" and would be the Joe team's designation for the USSOCOM's family of RG-31 Mk 5 mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles. VAMP would stand for "Vehicle: All-terrain, Multi-Purpose" and would be their designation for the Land Rover Defender-based Ranger Special Operations Vehicle. SHARC would be "Stowable High-buoyancy Assault Raiding Craft," meant to refer to their CRRCs (Combat Rubber Raiding/Recon Craft). The naming conventions for aircraft also follow what's current. For example, The Tomahawk is simply their designation for a mission-improved MH-60 Blackhawk, thus sticking to the traditional nomenclature of UH-60 helicopter variants (most Blackhawk variants are given names with a " -hawk" at the end, such as the Navy's Seahawk, the USMC's Nighthawk, and the modern armed interdiction Battlehawk helicopters). The Dragonfly is just their nickname for the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior (it's the helicopter that replaced the AH-1 Cobra as the Army's primary aeroscout platform, which was what Wild Bill's original Dragonfly helicopter was based on). A lot of people seem to think the AH-64D Apache is the successor to the AH-1, but it's not. The AH-1 was an armed aeroscout, not a tank killer like the AH-64D is. Dedicated tank-killer helicopters, just like fighter jets and tanks and full-sized field artillery howitzers and cannons, are something that wouldn't make sense being attached full-time to a rapid-reaction DA unit. I didn't even know who Starduster was until a few years ago when I first discovered YoJoe.com. A lot of the mail-order/store exclusive toys didn't really get promoted outside of the US. |

I like how you're handling the vehicles. That's awesome.
Some of the vehicles I just ignore. I have a small "stock" of 'em to use anyways, and not many of the really out there. I love me some Skyhawks and Armadillos, so even though those aren't very realistic, I still use 'em anyways. I have a weak spot for the Raider. I don't know why. It's kind of a very weird vehicle, but I like it. Never had one either.

I never had a lot of vehicles as a kid either. My older brother had the Triple T (he's still kicking himself over the decision to get it over the AWE Striker), and only because he was going through his "Sgt. Slaughter phase" at the time (I never liked Sgt. Slaughter myself, especially because of how we were force-fed how much cooleer and better he was than the other, older Joes in the cartoons). I think we also had a Dreadnok Air Skiff and Destro's Despoiler between the two of us. But most of the time, the vehicles we used were from other, cheaper toylines. Heck, we even "customized" the box our family's Betamax came in (that's how long ago this was) and turned it into a hovercraft (it was basically just a box with some styrofoam panels cut out to be chairs and control panels, but what made it so cool was that we finally had a vehicle that could seat all of our Joes).

I never had Serpentor or Slaughter as a kid. Didn't like either one of 'em being in Joe.
I did have the mail-away "Trainer" Slaughter. I liked that figure and thought that was a neat tie-in and useful to have around, but never had the Marauder's or Triple-T Slaughter. I only have the Serpentor that came with the Armadillo and the DVD pack now, and only because they came with stuff I wanted.

The Triple T was a total piece of crap from a design perspective, now that I think about it. It and the HAVOC are probably the only two armoured vehicles in the world that can be defeated by a guy with a good throwing arm and a sharp rock, seeing as how the operator sits in an exposed position (it's ridiculous how they've got armour plating everywhere except where the driver sits... he doesn't even get a freaking windshield!!!).

And people sit in the cockpit and lay down on their stomachs? Strange design.. very strange design.

I must be dreaming right as this can only be a dream!! I sure would love to find out that this was the real world and not just something we all would like to have happen! By the way who ever Oliver was talking about must be a total kook, why anyone would rather have Lifeline over Low-light is beyond me! He would certainly be in my top 20 with out a doubt! Low-light is must for any team as you have to have the top sniper in an elite team!! Don't get me wrong I know there are others who can shoot, but he has always been my top marksmen and I am proud to say so!!

They do serve that purpose good, tow vehicles. Can be used for towing aircraft around and equipment.
As a battlefield vehicle, they suck.
