Cool, I just got your email. I'll look these over and give you some tips. Perhaps I'll rewrite a few paragraphs to illustrate how to add some flavor and variety to the writing to make it more interesting. I find that writing simply but without a lot of adverbs and vague qualifiers and replacing "be" verbs with more specific action verbs can make a major difference to the overall feel and look of your narration.

Well, since it seems like it'll be a while before I finish updating all the images and making sure all the information is up-to-date on my GI Joe reference bible, here's a link to the PDF version (text only) of the Cobra Reference Bible I wrote for a licensing pitch several years back:
Cobra Reference Bible (181 Kb, download via Sendspace) It's 38 pages long (it would have been over 100 pages if I'd included the images) and includes a brief history of Cobra, a partial look at Cobra's corporate structure, equipment listings, and personnel files. The whole idea behind the re-conceptualization of Cobra is that it's a private military consulting firm with associated interests in property development and weapons research and importation/exportation (this was originally written before Blackwater/Xe rising to prominence, mind you). I wanted to make Cobra a corporate entity grounded in the cutthroat world of war profiteering and "disaster capitalism," which would occasionally put them at odds or allied with the GI Joe team, depending on who's contracting them at the time (Cobra lists the US State Department as one of their clients), an overtly simplified but, in my mind, appropriate metaphor of the relationship between government and private military firms. If any of you guys get around to reading it, let me know what you think. I love it. It's so well thought out. My only gripe is you're not including a lot of the named cobras, so ranks are probably lower than my Cobra Hierarchy. I have a similar view that Cobra has a mercenary army wing to it's organization, run by Serpentor. Basically a third world dictator has an uprising to quell he calls Cobra. Before the UN can intervene there is already order on the streets. This is how Cobra can exist as a sovereign nation without world intervention. In fact Cobra is more successful at Peace keeping operations than NATO. My Cobra High Command: Now the top of the Hierachy is much like this: (keep in mind no one has ever died in my Cobraverse) Cobra Commander = King Serpentor = Emperor More or less equivalents although they try not to occupy the same space. CC hangs at Cobra Island mostly, Serpentor tries to do most of the fighting since he is a better stategist. CC is a better money maker. Destro = Marshall (0-10) Generals Overlord Tomax Xamot Gen. Mayhem (0-9) Lt. Generals Baroness Darklon Dr. Minbender Black Dragon Cesspool (0-8) Maj Generals Maj Gen Bludd Voltar Storm Shadow Dr. Venom Zartan Headman (0-7) Brig Generals Firefly Wild Weasel Alexander Destro Hannibal Interrogator CLAWS Commander (0-6)Colonels Mortal Scrap-Iron Night Creeper Leader Gristle Red Laser Venomus Maximus Big Boa Overkill Scalpel (0-5) Lt. Colonels Guillotine Snow Serpent Commander SkullBuster Cooperhead Zarana Lt Col Claymore Slice Rip It Crystal ball Escorpio Voador Neo-Viper Commander (0-4) Majors Zandar Dr. Knox Hotwire Skycreeper BLackout Croc Master Raptor Metal-Head Neuro toxin Razorclaw GhostBear Coil Crusher Hopefully that's everyone. Firefly and Maj Bludd have been employed for so long they don't really work for anyone else. Although Firefly rarely leads troop sizes large enough to be a General, he carries that rank and all its pay. It's more like a government equivalent. There are CIA agents that plan with generals and Colonels and their GS grades make them equivalents. Like most Terrorist organizations, Cobra doesn't have government ranks, but they hand out military titles like free taffy. Plus My Cobra Army is also a Mercenary Army so it's useful to rank as high or higher as the local commanders you are assisting. I mostly disregard the ranks we were given. I have one (0-6) Viper (Gold Sonic Viper) I use all the Version 1 styled Cobra Commanders as Cobra Colonels. Cobra Drivers are (0-2)Lts The various other Cobra Officers and Neo-vipers and Hiss drivers are Captains or Majors or Lt. depending on which ever I have the most or least of. The more I have the lower the rank. All Specialty Vipers are at least E-5 sgts. Range-Vipers and Alley-Vipers and Para-vipers and Snow Serpents are all E-7. There are no Warrant Officers but a lot of Sgt Majors. All Dreadnoks are paid as Sgt Majors except Buzzer who is a Capt. Pilots are a little different. But since they don't command troops they are not really in charge of anyone but themselves. Wild Weasel is the exception. |

Thats awesome Loose. My Cobra High Command is set up a little differently, as alot of the named Cobras are independant contractors brought in for a specific job then kept on as rankless consultants(for lack of a better term). Zartan has the Dreadnoks and Firefly or Major Bludd will be given troops for missions but they have no permenant place in the orgization.
Here is my set up(as it stands right now) Cobra Commander- Commander in Cheif Serpentor, Destro and the Baroness- All of equal rank but Destro is the Feild commander Interagator- Securty(Croc Master reports to him) Tomax & Zamot- Troop Commander Storm Shadow is a member of the high command but he is Rankless, more like CCs bodyguard(but does more within the orginaztion) Overlord- A member of the High Command but more like a regional commander for Eroupe Darklon- Overlords second in command Voltar- Troop Commander for Overloard The specfic Viper Corps have their own commanders that report to Tomax & Zamot Cobra Officers outrank Troopers and basic Vipers Crimsion Guards are the Elite troops and Vipers are the Starting point for combat personel Cobra Troopers are the starting point in Cobra |

I'm thinking about adding Baron IronBlood to mine, I'm just not sure how to do it and still be an underling to Cobra Commander. Still I have the idea that, Baron Iron-Blood was actually working for the Red-Skull, and got his hand on some alien tech. Well CC wants it too, and working for the Baron at the time were my favorite Twins who switched loyalties and joined CC and brought the tech with them. The Red Shadows were incorporated into Cobra and were the beginnings of the Crimson Guards. Baron Iron-Blood was permitted to work for Cobra and his Red Shadow Guard runs it's own operations in Europe. A lot of Blackmail of Royalty and high stakes gambling shakedowns. I have an unopened Baron IronBlood but the Indiana Jones Colonel Vogel looks pretty good. I just need to add a mustache. I also have about a dozen of the DTC crimson guards who look different enough to be considered a different unit in the Red Shadow Guards.

I really need more Cobra leaders. Destro is off doing the Iron Grenadier thing. Serpentor (since I can't stand him and don't want to even look at him) tried to take over Cobra and failed so he's got his own group called the Coil (which is just Serpentor, poor old clone...).
So really need some Cobra Generals.

It depends on which named Cobra's you have. I have most of them. I also tend to think that named Cobra's get higher ranks because they are tougher than most others so they sort of demand authority. But I also use the extra Cobra Commanders as Commanders (Colonels) I try not to go crazy since there are so many but I use one hooded commander as the real CC and the ones with the helmuts as Colonels. I use the Battle Armor ones (Since I have a few) as one of CC's elite body guard detachments. I use the 1990 version with the red visor as the Cobra Admiral (codename Anaconda) He looks like he's in a wetsuit.
